Notes: The spacious kitchen is extremely well-equipped with plenty of crockery, glassware, saucepans and cutlery including plastic sets for young children. The oven is a range style with a 5-burner hob, grill and a rotisserie spit. The layout of the kitchen and dining area is such that your designated chef of the day can chat to other guests while creating so won't feel left out! Although there are lots of stairs, the house is suitable for the elderly or infirm as once you're on the first floor you have the sitting-room, dining-room, kitchen, bathroom and a toilet on this level so you only need to use the stairs when going to bed or leaving the house.

Further details for this holiday house rental in Le Faou, France

House Layout:: Ground floor - The Library is a delightful room with french doors opening out onto the garden. There are hundreds of books to choose from and we're happy for you to swap your holiday reading for any of them (a handful are marked not to be removed). There's also a TV in here with video player and lots of children's videos plus a cupboard full of board games. Utility Room - Houses the central heating boiler, washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. There's also a large sink and a toilet. Garage: Contains 1 bicycle and all the garden maintenance tools (chained up for safety). 1st floor - Open-plan sitting-room, dining-room and kitchen. Family bathroom and separate toilet. 2nd floor - 4 bedrooms, 3 doubles (2 with washbasins) and 1 small twin (one bed pulls out from under the other). Family bathroom and separate toilet. 3rd floor (loft) - 2 very large bedrooms, 1 double with child's bed and 1 twin, both with ensuite showers. Separate toilet on landing.

Bird-watching:: The living area on the first floor affords the most superb view of the estuary; directly in front of the house is a bend in the river where flocks of sea birds congregate to feed at low tide. There are binoculars and a high powered telescope together with an in-depth guidebook to facilitate your (new) hobby. Birds we've seen to date include herons, spoonbills, egrets, shel ducks, curlews and dozens of others we haven't identified yet!

Golf:: Brittany is overloaded with golf courses, all beautifully maintained by the French but very much under-used. One of the closest courses is the Brest Iroise course at Landernau. It's 6296 yards and Par 71, set in the heart of wild moors offering unforgettable views of Brest Harbour. It's one of the most challenging in Brittany and ranked 13th in all of France. There's also a 9-hole course where beginners can warm up first...........!

Other Activities: birdwatching

Family of 11 living in the same house--no problem

Review Submitted: September 5, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2008
For a change to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, we wanted our family with us 7 adults and 4 grand/children. So we found this property in Le Faou. Oh how we enjoyed the house, the scenery, the village, the pool and all the quiet spots on the estuary. I can promise any future visitor that you will not be dissapointed, only on the day you leave. The very large garden and also very large pool provided so much for those who wanted to swim and play. The excellent lounge with all that you require, as with the kitchen all you need provided. The views from the bedrooms, stunning. Our family cannot priaise the owners enough for what they have provided to ensure that the holiday will be a memorable one. Even a selection of Bar-B Q's on the terrace. Games room for the little ones and not so little. We all played wII for ages, my grand children taught me so much!!! Please to email with would be interested parties, ask owner for my email address. Go and enjoy this beauitful and enjoyable place in France.
Owner's Response: Wow Taximan, wish I'd known it was your 40th anniversary. Would have left you some bubbly too!

A memorable family holiday

Tina10 Doncaster, England
Review Submitted: September 14, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We spent a week in this beautiful house in Le Faou in August 09. What a fantastic house. Everything you could ask for. We couldn't get over the stunning view from nearly all the rooms. A few nights were spent just gazing over the estuary or looking through the telescope. The house itself had splenty of room for all nine of us, very well equipped. The kids loved the pool and pool toys, my Dad loved the hammock, my husband loved the BBQ, my niece loved the cows in the next field, my Mum loved the well equipped kitchen and we all loved the views. We enjoyed exploring the Crozon Peninsula, the bays and views are spectacular. We visited the city of Quimper which is a French version of York with it's Cathedral, cobbled streets and boutiques. We tried a couple of restaurants in Le Faou, both were very nice but our French lingo did let us down a little. Overall we had a very relaxing holiday made better by the fact that the house had everything we needed and only 45 minutes from Roscoff!

Living it up with the birds.

Review Submitted: July 5, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
The birdsong in the garden was amazing - lots of happy Thrushes feasting on the cherries by the balcony. We did just as well as them both indoors & out - a fantastic venue & you have thought of everything to make it comfortable & enable everyone to get the most out of the stay. We were all enchanted by the setting & the evening light by the estuary was magical.

An amazing stay!

Caroline & Team Plymouth, England
Review Submitted: June 16, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We stayed at this villa whilst attending a conference in Brest and we were the envy of all!!! Our party consisted of four men and three women.

This place is amazing. The view every morning was breathtaking, and the house was enormous! It was the perfect retreat after a hard day of meetings and lectures!

The girls took over the top floor and left the boys to a room each on the second floor. All the rooms were spacious and tastefully decorated.

The living areas (on the first floor) were perfect for a large group, and again, excellent furnishings. The bottom floor also had a lovely little hideaway for quiet reading.

We didn't get to explore the local area much but it looked very pretty.

The house is immaculate and has everything you need.

Both the owners and housekeepers were very friendly and only to happy to help with anything.

We were all very sad to leave and would love to go back one day!

4 generations & a dog, one house, a great time!

David 1966 Brighton, UK
Review Submitted: June 13, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
My parents, my wife and I, our daughter and her partner, our grandson and our dog stayed at Estuary House between 30 May & 10 June 2009 and we all had a fantastic time! This house offers great accommodation for family get togethers, the description on the web site is entirely accurate, it is very well equipped and in a very convenient location for exploring the lovely coastline and many interesting towns in the area.

Le Faou itself - about a mile or so from the house - is a picturesque little village with a couple of friendly restaurants, a pizzeria/kebab store (we didn't try this but other guests recommend it), two patisseries (we tried both of these, repeatedly- they're very good), two butchers (we got some fantastic steak from one of these) a minimarket, a vet, pharmacy and a few small bars/cafes. Just outside the town, a few minutes drive from the house is a well equipped 'Super U' supermarket, where you'll get absolutely anything you need. In short, if you simply want to relax in the house/garden/pool and never stray far from there, it's entirely possible.

However, there is so much to see and do in Brittany that it's very tempting to explore. For shopping Quimper and Brest are within easy reach by car: Quimper really is a delightful town, with a beautiful church (cathedral?) set in a village square and with many interesting small shops in narrow streets. Brest is busier and more mainstream, and also is home to 'Oceanopolis'; a nice way for adults and children alike to spend an afternoon viewing the many species of fish, penguins, seals housed there.

For a quieter day out, we were particularly entranced by the beaches in the Crozon area. The sand is fine and golden, the sea crystal clear, and best of all the beaches were almost deserted while we were there.

This is all very positive - were there any negatives? No, although there are some things the visitor needs to bear in mind. The house has lots of stairs, so anyone who is infirm would struggle. The pool isn't fenced, but has an alarm which warns if anyone is in there unexpectedly, those with young children need to bear that in mind I'd suggest. Few of the locals speak English (why should they?) - I barely speak French, but we managed OK - people really are helpful and appreciate you making an effort.

So, overall we'd recommend Estuary House - it provided a great backdrop for our family get together and has left us with memories we'll cherish for many years.
