The apartments are comprised of recently remodelled suites of rooms, each with a private outdoor patio, nestled in a complex of medieval buildings. The suites are all located within the remnants of the ancient walls of the medieval town centre next to the magnificent 12th century Clunic priory church of Notre Dame which was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1998. We have made every effort to maintain the antiquity of these charming two bedroom units during renovation. Modern bathrooms, kitchens and living rooms make the units an ideal place to relax while exploring the region. While staying with us you will be a short walk to several bakeries, butcher shops, bars, restaurants and other amenities all within the medieval town centre. In addition to wine tasting and sightseeing you can spend your days walking or cycling the many trails in the area the best of which run along the Canal Lateral a la Loire. There is also the opportunity to travel down the Loire by kayak or canoe.

Located on the third floor (2eme étage) and accessed via two flights of stone stairs in the medieval tower. This suite fronts on Grande Rue and has a private terrace at the top of the tower with a wonderful view of the church and the surrounding area. The suite has central air-conditioning and heating with separately controlled units in each room. It has two bedrooms with two bathrooms. The upper bedroom has a queen size two metre bed; and the other on the main floor has two metre twin beds.

La Charité-sur-Loire - an excellent base from which to discover the picturesque, medieval towns of Burgundy. The ancient hilltop village of Sancerre is 25km away. Nevers with its Ducal Palace and faience (pottery) 35 km. The Morvan (Burgundy) has lakes and forests (35km). Magny-Cours (45km) - F1 Automobile and motorcycle races. Gothic cathedrals built between the 12th and 13th centuries and beautiful half-timbered houses in Auxerre, Vezelay, Bourges (50 km). In 2 hours or less you can visit the many wonderful chateaux in the Loire Valley - Amboise, Angers, Azay-le-Rideau, Blois, Chambord, Chenonceaux, Cheverny and Villandry. La Charité-sur-Loire is located between the red wine vineyards of Burgundy and the white wine regions of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire. Paris is only 1 hour and 45 minute drive on auto route A77. You can leave La Charité-sur-Loire at 7:30am and arrive when the stores are opening, enjoy a full day of sightseeing and shopping and be home in time for dinner.

Notes: There is car parking in front of the vacation rental for loading and unloading. This parking is also free from 7:00pm to 9:00am each night. There is also plenty of free unlimited parking behind the church which is a three minute walk from the rental. There are four bicycles for rent at 10 euros per week. We also provide pay and talk mobile phones which you purchase cards for at the local tabac.

We spent a most relaxing week in La Charité. Kelly and Byron were so welcoming and helpful and the Lucarne Suite was excellent: beautifully renovated, spotlessly clean and so well equipped. It more than matched its description. The town itself was beautiful with many good restaurants and plenty of interesting local excursions ranging from walks around the town, kayaking on the Loire to hill walking in the Morvan further afield. Definitely a place to revisit.

The Lucarne Suite, a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite was perfect. It had all the amenities of home and a big plus for me, it had air conditioning and was a non smoking appartment.
The appartment was well located in a medieval town that had everything you needed to make your stay perfect (grocery store, bakery shops, tea shop, outdoor cafes and restaurants). The owners Byron and Kelly were wonderful and helped us find beautiful towns to visit within a hour drive. I would definitely recommend this gite to my friends.
We had a wonderful vacation and are so happy we found this lovely appartment. Marilyn & Ben.

We enjoyed our stay in this lovely French town - Charite Sur Loire and it was made especially nice by the welcome given by Kelly and Byron. The apartment was very well appointed and an amazing place to stay, the windows overlook the cathedral and we sat outside on the turret overlooking the cathedral grounds.
The property was clean and well-maintained and the owners were very obliging. It was very pleasant being in a small town where there was a small supermarket, breadshops, bookshops etc. We ate lunches in a very good restaurant The Auberge de Seyr. The house with the apartments is right in the centre of the town.
We would thoroughly recommend it and will go again,

Lucarne suite - Easter 2009

We had a great week staying at La Charite and unexpectedly good weather which saw us use the roof terrace several times. The apartment is very spacious for 2 adults and child and perfectly suited our needs. It would also be ideal for those with 2 kids or 2 adult couples as the rooms are on seperate floors with their own facilities.

It is on the main road of the town so you are in the heart of everything but it is not a noisy place at all. Very clean and tidy with the renovation retaining having been done in a manner sensitive to the building but enough mod cons to ensure comfort - heating, washing machine, nice showers, tv/dvd. Family friendly though not recommended if you have pram/pushchair/wheelchair given the spiral staircase.

We found eating out expensive but blame the Euro/£ rate.

You can park for free directly outside the property in time restricted zones but the free unlimited parking is only a short walk and can be seen from the apartment.

Overall we thought the apartment ideal for our stay but would want more outside space if we'd been there in the height of summer but then we like the sun and have an energetic 6 year old !

We have visited Burgundy several times over the last 15 years but not this part and found lots of things to do and see. We had planned a day trip into Paris if we had a wet day but never got round to it !

Byron and Kelly were great hosts and have the balance on their support/presence just right. We'd certainly go back.

Delightful flat in centre of town

We had a thoroughly enjoyable week in this excellently appointed apartment. Our hosts were very helpful and friendly. Being in the middle of this little town, all services were within two or three minute's walk, including an excellent choice of restaurants. The only drawback was the access via a stone spiral staircase, which continued up to a stunning little tower-patio with breath-taking views of the abbey and the surrounding roofscapes, - as one previous visitor had remarked "you don't want to discover that you left the cork screw behind, once you get up there. Some previous visitors remarked that the patio was not for the over 60s, however, we are both 70 and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you for a most enjoyable week.
