Charming home and great owners

My wife and I spent two weeks in early September touring the countryside of Burgundy and we stayed in this lovely and well-kept home. The location was terrific -- about 10 kms north of Beaune in the hills above the cote d'or. The village of Magny doesn't have much in the way of services. In fact, there are no commercial businesses there unless you count the wineries (where you are welcomed anytime for a tour and tastings). It's an easy commute, however, to the markets of Beaune to get anything you need. The added benefit is that Magny is very quiet and a wonderful place to walk. There are several other villages separated by 2-3 km and we often spent a morning or evening setting out in a new direction to walk to a neighboring town. The roads and trails thru the grape fields have hardly any traffic and the views to the surrounding hills are beautiful.
The house is filled with everything you need including cooking utensils, coffee maker, misc staples left by previous guests, maps, books, cd's, videos, washer & dryer, towels, linens, etc. Two of the best things are the binders put together by Laura and Franck (with all the basic information on the house, grocery shopping, market days, wireless internet, etc) and the guest book filled with suggestions on restaurants, walks, driving tours and other things that previous renters have done.
The village of Magny sits right on the dividing line between the cote de nuit and the cote de beaune. Going north one finds all the famous vineyards growing the worlds best pinot noir along with the vibrant city of Dijon. We took a drive further northwest one day, along the backroads, to visit a dozen charming towns including Vezelay. To the south of Magny, the best vineyards focus on the chardonnay grape with the town of Montrachet the epicenter.
Our only knock on the accomodations is a low doorway into the kitchen area. My wife and I are both around six feet tall and the top of the entry is a head-banger for anyone over 5'10". Part of the 18th century charm. We gave ourselves a couple headaches before we finally wised up and taped a small hanging kitchen tool to the doorway. This put a warning down in the line of eyesight and we were fine after that. Otherwise, all the rooms are very comfortable and the bathroom especially is large and newly remodeled. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat and, from the comments in the guestbook, so would all the other visitors over the years.
Owner's Response: I do apologize for the bumps on the head from the low kitchen doorway. The house dates back to 1789, as does the kitchen door - proof that people really WERE smaller a few centuries ago.
We have had our tall guests try flagging tape, handwritten signs (i.e. DUCK!), and many other innovative solutions but the main problem is that the first coffee of the morning is on the OTHER side of that low doorjam! It is charming for people under 5'10 however...;)
Thanks for the great review, and we hope to see you again soon.
