The town of Semur-en-Auxois is populated by warm, friendly people and surrounded by medieval history, all while remaining a modern, self-sufficient town.
Semur is just a one-hour trip from Paris via a high-speed train, which stops in the adjacent town of Montbard. The town has a Sunday open-air market, three large grocery stores, six bakeries, a hospital, museum, theater, and cathedral.
Semur is also close to many other towns of note, including Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, Epoisses, Vezelay, Chablis, Avallon, Alesia, and of course, Dijon! The drive between Semur and Dijon is dotted with vineyards ranging from small, unknown treasures to larger-scale recognizable labels. The nearest vineyard to the house (a small but wonderful label) is only 5 km away.
