Further details for this holiday house rental in Cote d'Or, France

There is a bread van that passes 3 mornings a week through the village selling fresh baguettes and croissants, a cheese van that passes on a Wednesday evening and an 'epicerie' van once a week. The house is stocked with information leaflets for all the local sites and activities and we have also included our recommendations for places to eat. There are fabulous walks around the numerous lakes and in the Morvan forest, cycling along the towpath of the Burgundy canal, which meanders through the village, golf courses at the Chateau de Chailly, horse riding near Semur en auxois and wind surfing and peddeloes at lac du Pont, 5 minutes away.

Well presented and relaxing

Review Submitted: August 31, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The Owners present a tidy well catered for property thta is as per the description. wide selection of dvd's and cd's if required. pool whilst small is still large enough for the family. back yard is hilly but large enough to kick a ball and perfect for star gazing with a bottle of red.

The Owners whilst on site are freindly and unobtrusive and put on a pizza night with their pizza oven that is built into one of the villas (not the one that this review relates to but the one attached to this villa).

It is important to be aware thta this villa is attached to another villa (owned by the same owner) and whilst our neighbours on our stay were fine, it could be a problem if you are looking for some privacy and separate family time. We probably were not fully aware of this point and would have preferred our own separate villa. One persons misery is another persons opportunity and to this I recommend that you could go on a multiple family holiday and have friends stay next door which would be fab.

One week is too short to take in all the region, but i did hire a bkie and enjoy riding through country villages. you will need to hire a car though for sure to do any major site seeing.

All in all though the owners present a pleasant property and are very helpful and friendly and I would recommend the villa to those who are looking for a group holiday rather than a single family holiday as we did. Not to say that our time was not enjoyable, just could have been more "away" from civilisation.

Sleeping is not a problem although in August it can get a bit sticky, but windows open a gentle breeze helps that.

Washing machine only comes on at 10 at night which was a bit of a problem for us as we did have a lot of dirty clothes from previous travel and you can't always guarantee that you will be around at 10.

puzzles are provided as well as game. shops requrie driving (not a problem). bread is delivered if you want it.

great safe cycing tracks.not far from Semur which is pretty with its old buildings.

Living room could be a bit dark during the day for doing puzzles and the privacy at the front of the house is not great (hence pulled curtains) but this is only a minor point.

I think the bigger thing is it is a great place but be aware that it is an attached villa.

great week

the k party bern, switzerland
Review Submitted: August 30, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We've spent a wonderful and unforgettable week with beautiful weather in august at stone mason's cottage. The nice old stonehouse was clean and tidy and furnished with plenty of details and many tools you might need. The huge garden with an overview over the "valley" was nicely taken care of and especially the pool area was great. We liked it that much, that we stayed most of the time around the house instead of making trips further away ;-)

Braux is a small village in the middle of nature and right next to the "canal de bourgogne", basically away from everything - which allowed us to see the milky way at its best and luckily, many falling stars.

The hosts Louise and Gérard and their family are very friendly and try everything to make you feel comfortable; if you like, you can even have suprises such as a pizza night!

We would definitely recommend this property to everyone who's looking for a nice and calm getaway in a beautiful place. As the commenter's before said: all in all a great week.

A little piece of paradise

Townie Sydney, Australia
Review Submitted: August 26, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
We had a fabulous week at the StoneMason's cottage. The house was very well equipped, the pool and garden area was beautiful for spending those long summer's evening sipping on the local rose and the village of Braux along the Canal de Bourgogne was lovely. All in all a pretty magical week. It was a great location from which to explore the lovely villages and chateaux of Burgundy. I would definately recommend this property and the lovely hosts!

Beautiful Cottage in rural location

JH111 Kent
Review Submitted: June 23, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We stayed in this cottage in June 2008. It was for two weeks and although the weather was a little against us had a good time. The facilities at the cottage were great and the house if finished to a really high standard.

The pool outside was great and looks very new. The cottage is supplied with lots of toys for the pool, garden, bbq's and outdoor faclitites.

We travelled with a 18 month old toddler who enjoyed the cottage it is pretty safe and child friendly. We were under an hour from Dijon which is good town for a day trip. Lots to see in the area and lots of recommendations from the owners.

Friendly and welcoming owners and idea of a family break.

Romantisches Burgunderhaus

Chrigy Schweiz
Review Submitted: August 26, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
