Chamonix ski holidays are very popular for a number of reasons. Chamonix is in the French Alps, very near the Swiss border, and lies in the shadow of Mont Blanc, Europe's tallest mountain peak. The area was made famous by the skiing resort of Chamonix, which was the host of the first Winter Olympics, and is one of many resorts in the area to offer a huge variety of skiing styles and abilities. However, if it is not a Chamonix ski holiday you are looking for, there are a huge number of reasons to take a holiday rental chalet, winter or summer.

Things to do on a Chamonix holiday

Chamonix ski resorts have a huge variety of snow conditions, pistes and facilities for snowsports. Chamonix is also famous for other sports though. Hiking, mountaineering, climbing, paragliding and mountain biking are hugely popular in the area. Facilities are also in place for indoor sports, with heated swimming pools, ice rinks, climbing walls and spas.

Places to holiday in Chamonix

Argentiere’s glacial scenery sits under the peak of Mont Blanc. A ski holiday to Argentiere is best for experienced skiers, as the rugged off-piste presents a challenge for good skiers, and the pistes here are fearsome! However, the après-ski is great, meaning that an apartment here is more than purely a chalet to hang your skis!

Near to Argentiere is the family resort of Les Houches. There are slopes for the more novice of the family members, but the downhill course is considered second only to Kitzbuhel for technical difficulty.

Les Contamines is a resort catering for all abilities. If you have a mixed ability party looking for Chamonix accommodation, Les Contamines is a good bet. As well as a range of pistes, there is also extensive off-piste to be enjoyed.

For cheap flights to Chamonix, it is best to shop around. British Airways, BMI, RyanAir, Easyjet and other providers all have deals from most UK airports to Annecy Airport (NCY) or Geneva (GVA), just over the Swiss border.
