Walking Around:
A 5 minute walk from the house puts you at the Port of Nice. There are restaurants, bakeries, butchers, grocery shops, pharmacies, news stands and vegetable stands located in the area. There is also a post office and rental car locations at the port.
The walk around the port is very pleasant and takes you to the area of the ancient chateau which is perched on a hill above the port. You can pass the chateau on the 'beach side' to access the beaches of the city of Nice and then on into the old town and the main market square. That is about a 20 minute walk from the house. A slightly shorter route is to pass the chateau on the 'city side' and be directly in the old town and its shops, restaurants, and markets, and the Museum of Modern and Contemparary Art.
There are also beaches on the east side of the port within a 10 minute walk from the house.
Walking is great and bicycling is even easier! Bicycle rentals are available.
Public Transportation:
There is a bus stop within 200 meters of the house. There is a bus that goes downtown and to the Central Bus Station and the Central Train Station. This bus also connects with the Airport Express Bus.
There is also a bus that runs east toward Italy. You can go directly to Villefranche, St Jean- Cap Ferrat, Beulieu, Monte Carlo, and Menton. There are also good local trains from the Central Station that go east toward Monte Carlo and also West to Antibes, Cannes, and beyond.
The public transportation is good. Renting a car is also an option and, unlike many places in Nice, on street parking is not a problem at the villa.
Go skiing!:
We already have good snow in the southern alps (Dec 2008). There are 3 ski areas within 1.5 hour drive and there are buses available from the city bus terminal for 1 euro. Isola 2000, Auron, and Valberg are all nearby. Val d'Allos is 2 hours. After skiing, come home and build a fire in the fireplace!
