Noisy Nice - July 09
Review Submitted: July 15, 2009
Date of Stay: June 2009
The apartment was clean, well furnished and ideally located for lots of activities in Nice and beyond. It was great not to have just the minimum number of plates, cups, cutlery etc - lots in the cupboards. The rooms were generally bigger than I expected and having 3 showers with 4 adult daughters was just about right. The showers are over baths so you have to step into them.
We used the tram (garibaldi stop) to get to the main beach and Massena shops. The bus station is also close and several bus routes passed nearby. We bought some 7 day transport passes which could be used for the tram and buses, but they did not apply to the buses to go to Cannes and Monaco. Still good value as it included the trip to/from the airport.
There is a swimming spot, not for little kids, at the end of the port wall. Big rocks to spread out on, a ladder to get into the water, deep, and a shower to wash afterwards. Wifi was available "free" at the pub over the road ( good beer) or at Maccas near the Bus port ( coffee).
Nice is noisy - it was very noisy during our stay as we always had windows open for the cool breeze. The shutters meant we were quite happy with the security of the apartment even with it being on the first floor.
No Smoking areas are slowly being introduced around Nice - inside restaurants etc but you eat your meal outside with all the smokers around you- and there were lots. There must have been lots of dogs in the area too, whilst we didn't hear any, we knew which footpath they had been on.
All the museums, art galleries we went into in Nice were free. Some other places were happy to give discounts to the girls just using their domestic uni student cards as proof.
We arrived in the evening much later than expected (travel delays) and the agent could not have been nicer when we finally met her. She took time to help us get our bearings and find food!
