Nice holiday apartment: Cote d'Azur - Riviera

I would definitely agree with other reviews about the high standard of accommodation in this apartment. It's clean, a good size, quiet and with a lovely big balcony and a big comfy sofa! TV could be bigger though..

When we arrived (sunday afternoon) there was no toilet roll in the apartment. I know it's self catering & expected to buy some for the week, but was very disappointed not to have a roll in the apartment when we arrived. This was especially so as finding an open supermarket on a sunday afternoon was a real challenge.

I also chose this apartment because the description - when I booked - stated that there was free wireless internet available (I note it now says LIMITED...) Well, limited is right. It was unusable, the signal simply wasn't strong enough. My husband runs his own business and internet access was a necessity for him during the week. This could have been a major problem, but luckily he was able to connect via his mobile & bluetooth (which of course cost money - rather than being free as we'd anticipated).

The location is residential and therefore nice & quiet in the evenings, although the road is surprisingly busy during the day. If you intend to do lots of sightseeing in Nice & surrounding areas then bear in mind, if relying on the buses, that in reality it takes an hour from leaving apt to getting to central Nice - because it's at least 2 buses and although they're frequent it still takes time.

We only spent 1 evening out in Nice, and ended up walking back the whole way (an hour's walk) because the night bus service is very poor compared to the excellent day time provision. After 7.40pm there is no local bus service up to the apartment so nights out will either involve a taxi ride (ouch!) or a walk up the hill. It was steep but not that bad (for 2 relatively fit adults).

We bought the 7 day bus pass & used it to get back to the airport as well as many times during the week, a bargain at 15 euros.

the appartment is brilliantly equipped kim has really thought through what may be needed, and very comfortably sleeps 4 people.The owner is a great communicator much quicker at getting back to me than any of the others I contacted, this is a major plus point.The only downside to this was the location it is at least 4 miles and 2 buses to the old town and centre.The city bus you will be told about is atleast 25minutes walk and a steep incline on the way back.you need a hopper bus down the steep hill then one into town,Even the locals struggled to figure when the hopper buses were due as timetables tell you the time the bus leaves its original point and I guarantee you wont be able to figure it out.There were about 3 an hour on good day and stopped before 8pm.My daughter struggled with the at least half hour steep incline back to the appartment the one time we tried it, and we are not unfit by any means.This was a shame as we missed fireworks on the prom on bastille day and further out of town trips had to be abandoned as we knew we would miss the last hopper even if you manage to get buses straight away it takes an hour at least because traffic is so congested.the buses are overcrowded to a dangerous extent they pack people in right to the door and the driving is horrendous.we had to subtract between 2 and 3 hours off our sightseeing every day because of the commuting.taxis are an absolute rip off and the drivers are rude so wouldnt recommend.The balcony in the evening went some way to compensating for this as we enjoyed the views and had a glass of wine.Some of the neighbours are intolerant and 2 were quite nasty to us despite the fact we were sensitive not atall rowdy and in bed most nights before 10. the one directly underneath had the cheek to complain that we woke her baby up during the day rolling our cases along the floor how else werewe meant to get them in I wonder.The pool is nice but small at the weekend we counted 15 people at one time .most times during the week it is not so busy .The appartment does represent good value you would get appartments with pool in on the promenade with similar price but they would be much smaller. we did have plentyn room and made use of the facilities.We left milk bread bacon ham and biscuits for the next person incase they were coming in from a night flight.We managed Eze,St paul and Monaco,All lovely but didnt get Italy or Cannes due to losing sunday and bastille day,we were effectively stuck up the hill
