A terraced house/apartment next to the sea 100m away, this is our holiday home in the sun - we enjoy staying here at all times of year and hope you will too. Beautifully built in 1978, clean and comfortable rather than luxurious, it has three double bedrooms, a large sitting room, new air conditioning, new kitchen and shower room. In an exclusive 50 acre domain with extensive shared gardens, this property enjoys one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline on the Riviera. There is superb sea swimming off man-made beaches, with a bathing platform. The Summer Club (open June-September and 2 mins away) has a near Olympic size salt water swimming pool, charming children's pool, small shop & restaurant. The Chateau, now the Winter Club, has a superb restaurant, fitness centre, sauna and another swimming pool. There are 2 tennis courts, children’s playground, volleyball, table tennis & boules area. The domain is 24/7 guarded and hilly paths/roads offer good walks with spectacular views.

La Galere itself is exceptional: a beautiful, exclusive, and guarded sea-side enclave. The local picturesque village of Théoule-sur-Mer with its laid back French feels enjoys beautiful sandy beaches and is a 5 minute drive away (or 40 min walk). It has a selection of good restaurants & shops. Other nearby sandy beaches can be found at Miramar, La Napoule, Agay and Cannes. There are endless day trips if you are feeling active. Cannes provides glitz and glamour with many restaurants & shops and wonderful strolls along the Croisette. Monaco, St Raphael, and Grasse are within easy reach. Stunning hill top villages worth exploring include Mougins, St Paul de Vence, and Eze. Winter skiing is around 2 hour's drive. In summer ferries run daily to St Tropez from Cannes and St Raphael, and boat trips run along the coast & out to the Isles de Lerins. There is wonderful walking in the Esterel hills just above La Galere. Cannes is approx 20 minutes by car, Nice airport approx 45 minutes.

  • The property is not booked until the deposit has been received.
    Rental may be paid in euros or pounds sterling£. Normal end cleaning is charged in addition. If further cleaning is required, this will be charged. Linen and towels may be hired from the Club which can also give limited advice on the locality.
    Rental includes temporary membership of the Club Port la Galere. This covers free acess to parking and the communal facilities mentioned including restaurants, Tennis & volleyball courts,three swimming pools and a baby pool, gardens, young childrens' play area, table tennis, boules court, and three beaches. There is a fitness room, sauna and in summer a young people's night club.
    The Clubs are open full time in high season. The Winter Club closes from mid- November to mid-December; and in winter the Club closes two days a week. Pets are considered, by arrangement, but downstairs only.
  • All three bedrooms have air conditioning; and living/bed rooms have individual heating controls. Heating/cooling comes from a reversible heat pump.
    The house as a whole is simply furnished in modern Provencal style. It is thirty years old, clean and comfortable - a home, not a smart hotel.
    Our telephone subscription, subject to availability, provides our guests with fixed broadband internet (security code available on demand), and with free telephone calls to landlines in Western Europe, North America, and Australia/ NZ. Calls to mobiles and special numbers are charged at a premium rate.
    Occupancy started at 3.00 pm on the day of arrival, and the property must be vacated and keys returned by 10.00 am on the day of departure to allow for thorough cleaning.
    Strict security arrangements are in place at the sole entrance which is 24-hour guarded. This ensures that la Galere is one of the most secluded and safe places on the Riviera for children, adults, and property.
  • A high class 3 course bistro menu lunch and dinner including wine is generally available for around 28€ at one of the restaurants. Fresh baguettes, croissants and newspapers (to order) can be purchased. Breakfast is also available. In high summer lunch and dinners are available at the Summer Club by the pool. Dinner at the Winter Club is then normally a la carte.
    The Summer Club restaurant closes at the end of September, with the pool normally remaining open until end October.
    The Winter Club pool is open year round, but is not always heated.
    Bookings resulting from enquiries through this site include contractual acceptance by the tenant of the general rules of La Galere. These include in particular: no motorbikes in night hours; no significant noise after 10 pm; no visible towels or laundry displayed on balconies, and generally thoughtful behaviour to other occupants. No on site service is provided, but if a problem arises we or our cleaner will do our best to help.

  • The large en-suite bathroom has original wall and floor tiles in blue, and has a full bath with new integral mixer tap and shower, a bidet, wc and a basin with new taps. There is a heater. The shower room was redone in 2006 in natural stone and marble - small but classy. It has a wc, basin, the shower enclosure, a heater and a heated towel rail. The downstairs cloakroom is off the broad entrance hallway, and opposite the kitchen. It has a washbasin with new taps, and leads to a separate toilet. Beside it is a small cupboard for coats, the hoover etc. A shelf above has a collection of children's beach toys, beach mats, and some tennis and table tennis equipment etc for the use of guests. The sweeping curved stone staircase leads off the hallway and living room. The redone kitchen has a new four-ring induction hob, self-cleaning oven; new dishwasher, and washing machine. Tennis & volleyball courts, swimming pools, gardens, and playground are communal.

  • The two main bedrooms have wide south east views from the balcony, out to the sea and the Isles Lerins over the small port and sea wall; and south west past houses on the quay. You often see yachts and speedboats; cruise liners coming out in the evening sun from Cannes; and the life of the quiet little port. The morning sun pours in, but it is sheltered from the hot evening sun. The master bedroom has most cupboard space, a large double bed, and double French doors to the shared balcony where a bougainvillea twines over the railings. It has nearly light-proof curtains, and a wall safe. There is a large en-suite blue tiled bathroom. Bedroom two is similar, with lovely views and an extra large zipped double bed which can be separated into two singles. It shares a Shower room, beautifully redone in natural stone and marble, with Bedroom three. Bedroom three, smaller & more suitable for children, has two singles and a shady balcony with side views over the bay to Cannes and the Alps

Notes: La Galere, built in a Mediterranean style is now 'listed' and preserved by French law. Hard to describe, but full of charm, all apartments/houses are unique with many curving walls - all set in acres of gardens. South east facing, our terraced house is on two floors joined by a charming spiral stone staircase. A neighbour's terrace extends over the top floor. A spacious open plan 'sejour' has two sets of double French doors leading to a balcony with views over the marina and quay, the sea and islands. It gets the sun from early morning until early afternoon and has a round terrace table with 5 loungers. Inside are two large sofas and six dining chairs with a round extending table .With over 300 sunny days a year, even in winter lunch can often be enjoyed outside. The upstairs balcony gets the sun until about 4pm and is a wonderful place for pre-dinner drinks. A maid service may be available. The fitness room, sauna, library etc are communal in the Winter Club

Further Details: Our apartment enjoys a perfect location for families who do not wish to walk too far. The Port, which we overlook, is a small private marina of yachts and motor boats up to 15m. The large Summer Pool, restaurant, children’s pools (including one reserved for toddlers) and play area are just 2 minute's walk away The Winter Pool and Winter Club are 5 mins walk uphill. Two tennis courts are available and there are numerous golf courses nearby. The apartments and houses at La Galere are owned by a multi-national set (French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, Swiss, Americans, etc) so there is a wonderful international feeling to the place. La Galere is on the Corniche d'Or and is beautiful and hilly, set in over 50 acres, mainly gardens. We have a small library of video tapes and DVDs for the use of guests. The Cable TV is continental (French,German, Italian) except for CNN. Parking is available near to the apartment entrance.

The Climate: On average there are over 300 sunny days a year - 6 days out of 7 - and Galere has a favourable micro-climate. Summer is hot and dry. Autumn and spring more variable, but still sunny. Even in January sunshine is said to average 5 hours a day. Mimosa is in full bloom in February. Though the air can be cool, even cold, it is often pleasant to lunch outside in all winter months, and on a particularly lovely day you must rush to book an outside table at seaside restaurants in Theoule. The Alps and the Esterel protect this bit of coast, but even the Riviera can be hit by a spell of stormy weather (and when it rains, it pours: time for retail therapy or some of the many museums or attractions along the coast). Sea swimming – depending on how hardy you are – is usually a pleasure from end May to mid October. Jan 2005 saw one snow shower - the first for 19 years - but next day we had lunch on the balcony in the sunshine. Summers are very hot, but our bedrooms have air conditioning.

Notes on the rental rates: A 30% deposit is required at the time of booking with final payment made 4 weeks prior to your holiday beginning, along with a refundable damage deposit of €300 or £270. Please report breakages. The deposit will be returned upon you and our cleaner notifying us that no damage/ breakages and no phone charges have been incurred. La Galere has strict rules prohibiting noise after 10 pm; and washing may not be left visibly on balconies A maximum of 6 people can stay in the apartment. Sheets, towels etc can be obtained from the Winter Club at a cost of about 40 Euros per double set and 25 Euros per single set. Please notify me when booking. You pay direct to the Club on arrival for the linen. Please provide your own beach towels. The Property is Non-Smoking. End of holiday cleaning is charged at 70 euros, but this assumes the apartment is left reasonably clean with all washing-up done and put away. If extra cleaning is required it will be charged.
