Relaxing bright and spacious self-catering apartment in Vence, on first floor with lift/elevator. Situated just outside the picturesque medieval walled village of Vence, near enough to walk for warm croissants for breakfast! Village has excellent food shops, restaurants and markets, Roman foundations and is located in the foothills of the Alps between Nice and Grasse, in Alpes Maritime. Furnished as a comfortable home, it is available all year round. Popular for summer, it is also warm and cosy in winter months for skiers and walkers. In quiet location with mountain views across valley from the large dining patio, 50ft terrace and all main rooms. In an area for art lovers, the changing view of the mountains throughout the day illustrates why so many famous artists have lived in the area because of 'the quality of light'. Reserved parking by apartment included in rental. Minimum let is 7 days. Arrival dates are flexible to suit YOU: no fixed change-over

The area is rich in history and art, and has easy access by autoroute to Aix en Provence, Arles, Avignon, Antibes (and other Roman centres), Monte Carlo, Cannes, Menton and all the other famous resorts of the French Riviera. Under 2 hrs drive to the French winter ski slopes of Auron, Isola and others. Under an hour to the Italian border town - and huge Friday market - at Vingtemilia. Ideally located for sightseeing the historic medieval 'perched villages', of which the nearest are the famous St. Paul de Vence with the Colombe d'Or and Tourettes de Loup, populated by craftsmen in their studio shops. Elegant shopping in Nice and Cannes, village markets in Vence. Local museums dedicated to artists who lived in the area include Picasso, Leger, Matisse, Renoir and Chagal. The Matisse Chapel is in Vence, as is the 'cathedral' which has a Chagal mosaic. Art-lovers will be stunned by the Maeght Foundation Art Gallery. Seaside, beaches within easy reach by car. Our guests love it!: Letter from a recent guest (AQ London) ‘The apartment was beautiful and was the launch pad to an excellent break ……When we arrived we couldn’t believe the space and quality of the furnishings at our disposal. Its location is excellent allowing many enjoyable walks into the beautiful walled town of Vence. ‘We managed to get the maximum benefit out of our hire car, traveling the length of the coast from Monte Carlo through to Cannes, whilst venturing inland beyond Grasse to several of the perched villages. All in all, a superb family holiday’.

We had a most enjoyable holiday at your (very homely) apartment located in beautiful medieval Vence. Using a combination of excellent public transport and our hired car, we visited Monaco, Cannes, Nice, St. Paul-de-Vence, Cagnes Sur Mer plus many other villages in the area and enjoyed local food and drink immensely. We found the Tourist Office in Vence most helpful.

2 wks of relaxation with a surprise in the middle

After holidaying for many years in France we have found the place we would wish to return to time and time again.

Not only is the location just right. A short drive from Nice airport and the splendour of the Cote d’Azur and Monaco but head inland and you are soon experiencing the freshness of the countryside. Take a picnic up to the Col de Vence and spend some time wandering around the painted stones.

For those who like ancient towns Vence itself is a few mins walk with its vast selection of art galleries, restaurants, markets on the town square and even a decent supermarket if need to food shop. St Paul de Vence is but a short drive away and our favourite Tourettes-sur-Loup again just a short easy drive.

The apartment is extremely well equipped, and not with a miss match of plates and cutlery that you often find in holiday lets but to a standard that would indicate that the owners live in the apartment for long periods of time.

For sun worshipers you need to rise slightly early as the sun did tend to move off the terrace around about lunchtime when we were there in June but with the protection offered by the apartment above we were still able to sit out and indeed dine if there is any rain.

All in all with a combination of the area and quality of apartment this was one of our most enjoyable holidays in that region of France.

(The surprise was our eldest daughter flying out to stay with us for the middle weekend)
