Photos and Description of this Villefranche-sur-Mer holiday apartment Lovely sea view, balcony, walk to beach, one bedroom apt in heart of old town

Located in the heart of the old town of Villefranche, this apt. is in the same building as our other apt. Sur le Toit (property #432782). It is a one bedroom apartment with an open floor plan (bedroom is partly open to the main living space). The view, from the sofa, dining table, main living space and balcony is of a beautiful old world scene: a pedestrian street, lined with colorful buildings, cascading down the hill to the sea – then the bay, Cap Ferrat and Villa Rothschild right on top like a decoration (and beautifully lit at night). A charming and artistic view. It is also a great location – steps from everything (butcher, boulangerie, green grocer, grocery shops) yet in a very quiet location. It is a close and beautiful walk to the lovely sandy beach. It is also a close walk to the world famous French language institute, Institut Francais. Living in the heart of the old town is a wonderful experience as this charming place is still a very French village.

Details for Artist's Atelier 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 3, 1 Bathroom

When you enter the apartment you feel the spaciousness of the room, and the historic feeling of the 600 year old building with 12 foot high ceilings and old wooden beams. Bright sun light fills the room from the French doors leading to the balcony. The kitchen, dining and living area are one big space decorated in an artistic and comfortable style. The French doors open onto a 5 meter long marble, sun-filled balcony, with dining table, cascading flowers, herbs and one of the most charming views of the sea and the old town. The view includes colorful old-world buildings, flowers, wrought-iron balconies, the Bay of Villefranche and Cap Ferrat. The view is magical - both during the day and at night. If you are coming to study French at the world famous language Institute, this apartment is a very convenient to the Institut Francais and has the benefit of living in the old town where all the shops and restaurants are and where everyone gathers.

Villefranche is nestled between Nice and Monaco - 5 min from old (Vieux) Nice, 10-15 min from Monaco. Although surrounded by a diverse, exciting cosmopolitan environment, it is still an authentic Nicoise village. I know, I live here, hard to believe it is still that way -- wonderful! Notes: The apartment is furnished in a fun, eclectic style with attention paid to every detail of comfort and need so you can have a great experience of 'living' here - not just visiting. The living room area can comfortably seat 4-6; dining table 4 at a lovely antique walnut table with comfortable deco arm chairs from the 30's and great lighting throughout. The bed is great--everyone comments about how great it is. The sofa bed is also very comfortable. The apartment is filled with light which beckons you outside to enjoy breakfast, lunch, a glass of wine--whatever on the balcony which is large, comfortable, and filled with flowers & herbs. While there, you will be captivated by the view and village life that unfolds around you--including the church bells reminding you of the time of day (from 7am- 9pm). As one guest said, 'two times a day the guy really gets into playing music with those bells'. I explained to him that was the reminder to come to mass. Delightful - it's a village!

Further details for this holiday apartment rental in Villefranche-sur-Mer, France

About Villefranche: Great beach, fabulous swimming, great walks, exquisite scenery, wonderful restaurants, and lots to explore in our little triangle of beauty (Villefranche, Beaulieu, Cap Ferrat). Take a walk around the old town, around the water's edge walk of the citadel to the Port de la Darse, where boats have and continue to be built for over 500 years. Walk up to the Moyenne Corniche and follow the path up to Mont Boron to Fort Alban and come down the hillside back into Villefranche. Or take one of the prettiest walks in the world, from your doorstep in Villefranche, around the water's edge of Cap Ferrat -- a great day trip with a picnic and swim along the way. Or enjoy the lovely sandy beach of Villefranche and the wonderful swimming, or linger over a great lunch in one of the seaside restaurants. Or attend the superb French language institute, Institut Francais, a month-long immersion program, which is only a 10 minute walk away from this apartment.

Things to do in the area: But should you get bored with our little triangle, you can hop the train and head to Cannes or Antibes or take the bus to Nice. Cannes is great for shopping, as is Nice. Antibes is great to explore, have lunch, tour the marina and look at all the amazing yachts. Or take the train or bus to Monaco or Menton -- both fabulous in different ways. In Monaco, we love the Oceanographic Institute, exploring the old town, visiting the castle, exploring the Exotic garden and it's incredible grotto (a must for kids -- but adults will also have fun), the casino area and its gardens, the gorgeous Japanese garden and just 'hanging out' in Monaco -- it's such a scene! And then there is lovely Menton -- a fabulous old town, a lovely seaside. And then of course there is old Nice, the Promenade des Anglais and the several days you could spend exploring there. And we haven't even touched on St. Paul de Vence, Grasse, Vence, Eze or some of the other fabulous places within 30 min or less of here.

And there is more...: If you like to golf, there are some great golf courses in Monaco (unbelievable view over the Med) or Mougins, Cannes, and around. There is scuba diving, sailing, cycling (Lance Armstrong has called this place home -- still hangs out here), and great great walking. St. Tropez, the Var, Gorges du Verdon, Vallee du Roya, Italy, Corsica, Provence -- it is all close by yet you will always love coming back to Villefranche from wherever you visit because it is calm, embracing, nourishing -- a village with a great lifestyle. This is a very kid friendly place but also a great place to be if you are a romantic couple just wanting to hang out or a retired couple wanting to experience living here for a while. Even as an expatriate you can integrate here quickly as there are alot of expats here. And the French also enjoy mingling with the expat community. For more information please ask for my website link or my soon to be published blog site about Villefranche.

Lovely stay in beautifully situated apartment

Villefranche Dublin, Ireland
Review Submitted: July 10, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
A friend & I stayed is this well very appointed apartment situated in the heart of Ville Franche, one of the more authentic towns in the Cote d'Azur. I would highly recommend this apartment for two people - perfect for a couple and worked very well for two friends. It's decor is appealing, imaginatively done, while providing all the modern amenities. There are plenty of places to eat out in VF but if cooking-in is more your thing, the kitchen is very well equipped and I found shopping in the local shops a treat. The typical south of France beach is about 5 mins away (walking) making swimming & sun bathing very easy. (There are sun umbrellas, beach towels and even buckets and spades in the apartment so no need to bring your own!). We loved coming back to the apartment after a 'hard' days sunbathing or people watching/shopping in Cannes. It has a lovely feel and is a great place to relax and enjoy the view out over the bay of VF to the Cap of Ferat.

Location Location Location!!!

DG & LG Manchester, England UK
Review Submitted: September 22, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
My wife and I have just returned from our third stay at this delightful apartment.

It is equipped with everything you can imagine from ice bucket (to keep the rose nicely chilled) to tea lights (for that romantic touch should you decide to eat in).

It is always immaculately presented and is extremely clean.

The apartment is perfectly situated close to the local amenities from boulangerie to pharmacie. It is a stone's throw away from the beach and quaint restaurants which you will discover in the narrow streets of the charming and historic old town.

We highly recommend a stay and we have already booked for next year.

Artist’s Atelier: chez perfect

Amy L Christchurch, New Zealand
Review Submitted: October 23, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
We are home safe and sound – after an excruciatingly long journey! However, our week in your beautiful apartment was the perfect way to end our holiday. I can’t thank you enough for the way it is presented (exactly like the photos on the website!), the special touches (fresh flowers, rosé chilling in the refrigerator!) and your friendliness and personal interest. We loved it and have every intention of returning. So, it’s back to work and start saving! On our last morning I sat on the balcony for an hour and a half and wrote down everything that happened in our little corner of the neighbourhood! It was fascinating – from cats, to delivery boys searching for a doorway, to faces appearing at and out of windows, the hanging of washing, the waves, smiles and bonjours from Monsieur and Madame across the way, the leaving for, returning with and settling onto a balcony to read the newspaper! etc etc As you said in an earlier email – great material for a writer! I loved it and felt that another week at least would have gone very well with me! Having spent some days discovering the village it would have been a treat to then settle down and enjoy at a deeper level. We could have sat forever on our balcony. Or, we could have returned to that perfect little restaurant in Nice, had another ‘crème’ or ‘biere’ round the corner at Port Darse, listened to more crazy conversation at Cheznet, taken your sunhat, swim towel and mat back to the beach! My own monsieur might have had time to run further round the coast! You drew our attention to so many gems, tailor-made for us! Thank YOU, Shelley!

A treasure in Villefranche's old town

seosaph Cavan
Review Submitted: August 22, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
My husband and I stayed in the Artists Attelier from August 12-19. We are in our 50s and on our hols we like our comforts: top quality accomodation in a fabulous location; good food and wine of course; nice weather; no stress and good value. We got all of the above in spades during our week in Villefranche. Our favourite time of day was having breakfast on our balcony overlooking the comings and goings of the residents of the old town. The Artists Attelier is a real treasure- all the comforts of modern living in a medieval setting. We loved it!
