This charming, completely renovated traditionally styled holiday house is composed of two old townhouses like a pyramid upside down. It's situated in the calm carless authentic medieval part of Old Antibes on historical Greek and Roman ground. The Picasso Museum in the Chateau Grimaldi and the impressing Roman Cathedral are incredibly nearby. Just around two corners you can buy fresh food at the everydays market as you'll be in no time at the sandy beach, the yacht-harbour, in lovely restaurants, interesting shops or famous museums. When you're coming back you'll profit from the amazing atmosphere of this exceptional house in quietness. The main part of it includes just like a flat a large living area with a passage to an open kitchen with a small open fireplace. The living opens to a wide loft with an enlightened double bed and gives access to the cosy terrace with sea view. 1st floor: bedroom, separate toilet and bathroom. Ground floor: Studio with poss. of separate access.

Additional information about rental rates

  • The upper part of the house offers all facilities for up to 6, the complete house for up to 8 persons. The studio apartment has an optional separate entrance but is normally connceted to the rest of the house but can be on his own with kitchenette and is also fully equipped with television, DVD and CDradio.
  • As les volets bleus mostly are rented as a unit including the small studio on the ground, the indicated prices are for the whole house. For more than one week there is a 10% reduction. Midweeks or weekends possible but only outside the peak season. Property without studio as separate studio rentals on demand. Special reductions for winter long term periods possible. The prices are due to the owner without any transaction costs.
    Please add extra costs for linen, water, energy etc. of 20 Euros per person per week (+5 in winter for heating supplement.
  • 33% of the rental price due to the owner is required to confirm the definitive booking; the remaining amount of the balance has to be paid one month before arrival.
    In Antibes our agent will meet you at all reasonable hours and provides under other a pickup and bring service from and to the airport. They will require a security deposit of € 500 as a warranty, refundable on departure, when house is found in faultless condition.

Notes: The spacious living is connected on one floor with the kitchen (uniting two former separated house parts) and so builds an important flat part on the second floor. It's open up to the roof and leads to a wide wooden loft with double bed & sofa that also can be used as another additional bed. The loft gives access to the wonderfully private terrace on this highest level of the house in direction south-east with possibility of panoramic sea view. The newly renovated famous Picasso Museum in the old Château Grimaldi building as the Sarazene tower of the cathedral completes the panorama in direct neighbour ship. 'La Gravette' is Vieil Antibes bay formed stonewall protected intimate sandy beach and it is the 'house beach' of LES VOLETS BLEUS as it lies at the feet of the quarter just a few steps outside the walls onto the remparts. Access via a very nice walk by entering the harbour.

The house is in a central - but quiet position.: The world-famous Picasso Museum is up this alley in less then 100 m. Here in the 'rue St. Esprit', the important French novelist Jacques Audiberti grew up, and the famous French song writer Claude Nougaro composed a song about him and this lane. There is a beautiful sandy 'house beach' at the feet of the property without direct access, but the way to it is one of the most alive ones in Antibes and maybe whole the côte. You can buy fresh fish from the fisher-men's harbour sales point on it, can get your newspapers and baguettes on the way back from your morning swim as one out of hundred suggestions. Naturally there are sailing facilities and motorboat rentals in the harbour or nearby beaches. Nice airport is less then 20 km away. The train station of Antibes is a TGV stop in about 10 minutes walking distance. The Bus station for public transport is about 5 minutes away. Free Parkings are rather nearby or very close on the remparts at the seaside, the house is in the quiet 2nd row

Parking situation: Usually - with very few exceptions - there are no parking's directly at the houses in the old town. Les Volets Bleus are in the privileged situation to have two of the very last toll free parkings for residents of the old town in only 30/60 meters distance on the Ramparts, but naturally without a guarantee to get one. Mostly we get one there but use the car seldom. The payable harbour parking areas beneath the house as the free Parkings as at Ponteil are reachable by wonderful sightseeing ways not far from and to the house. Supplementary information for renters who come by aeroplane: Our house management provides a pick-up and bring service from and to the airport. So if you don't need a car everyday: In case you need one, you'll have the choice between several car rentals in Antibes close to Les Volets Bleus. Since short we can offer again a parking card for a reserved area in the harbour for inhabitants of the old town reachable in very nice walking distance in less than 500 mt

We had 2 lovely weeks in the charming house in Antibes old town in september/october. The house is very well equiped and is located close to everything: The beach, the marked, the cathedral, the Picasso-museum and the towncenter. And the walking distance to railway and bus is suitable for everyone. We did not miss a hired care.
We were seven all in all at the range between 10 and 83 years. Everybody were satisfied, and som of us specially enjoined the roof terrace in the evening with a book, cigar, calvados and coffee. Splendid.

We will always come back to les Volets Bleus!

We are 2 families with children who have stayed in les Volets Bleus two weeks every summer since 2003 and are planning to continue this tradition for many years! What we appreciate the most about Les Volets Bleus is the ideal location in the very charming old city of Antibes, only a few minutes walk to the beach and to “les remparts” with the nice view over the sea, to the market place at le Marché Provencal, to our favorite bakery and to lots of nice restaurants and shops etc. Coming back to les Volets Bleus every summer makes us feel like coming back to our own place. The house itself is charming and very well equipped with everything we need. The terrace at the top is an ideal place to spend the evening with a glass of wine, looking at the stars and the nice view over the roofs of the old city. The owners and the house keeper are nice and helpful. In addition to being one of the most charming places at le Cote d’Azur, Antibes is a good starting point for daytrips to Nice, Cannes, Monaco and many other places with train or by bus if you don’t have a car available. We can absolutely recommend Les Volets Blues!"

Perfect location

This property is in an ideal spot and it only takes 2 minutes to walk to the market to get fresh ingredients for breakfast. We booked from the 2008 listing which said it had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and this is not true - it is now listed as 2. This made it difficult for the 5 adults. The property was fairly clean but the cupboards were full of half opened food from previous holidaymakers and had not been cleared out for a while. Paint was stored above the washing machine which worried us due to it being a fire risk. The studio is very small and hot with nowhere to hang clothese as the wardrobes/cupboards are full of junk. Every cupboard and wardrobe is full of clutter and needs a good clear out. I think this property is very expensive for what you get. There seems to be an extra charge for everything. We paid almost 100 euro for cleaning at the end of our holiday, which was excessive as we all cleaned before we left anyway. We also had to pay 100 euros for electricity. Had I known there was only one bathroom and toilet (not including the tiny shower and toilet in the studio) I would have booked a different property, especially as most of the others advertised are much cheaper than this one.
Owner's Response: We are pleased that the renter loved the location and a little surprised with her opinions on the house.

There seems to be a little confusion between opinion and fact.

The house does have two bedrooms, but as classified under French Property law, it also has a mezzanine level sleeping area with a double bed (+ additional sofabed) .
It has been used many times by 6 and even 8 adults without difficulty.

Many of our guests like the fact that when they arrive there are things like oil, vinegar, sugar, salt, coffee & tea left over from previous rentals.

If it ever is a problem, any tenant can always request to the cleaners that these are removed.

The house is rented throughout the year and whilst in the summer we only make up beds with sheets, there are in the wardrobes: duvets and blankets should any guests feel chilly. That is all that is kept in there however.

The washing machine is stored in a utility area that does include light bulbs, fuses, and some paints - this area is separate from the main living area of the house and none of these items pose a fire risk.

The extra charge is mainly for bedding and not for electricity, this
is normal - we charge by the numbers of people staying which is fair to all parties in a house that can sleep 10 people.

The cleaning charge is not excessive – 85 Euros - considering that two people clean and prepare the house - and it’s a big one after all - for the next guests (for every guest they put already the clean sheets on the bed) - for a minimum of 2 hours, even when only two people have stayed.

Concerning the general price level please compare yourself.

We are sorry that this customer did not enjoy our house as most of our guests do, - please read the other reviews to see how lovely they found it...

We (2 families with kids of 9-14) spent an unforgettable week in sunny Antibes (all Provence was cloudy and rainy, but somehow the rains never reached the cap). The house was everything we expected. The house was well kept, clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well-equipped and we even found beach toys! The location is ideal: central but still quiet (the street makes a curve, so almost all the tourists will go to Rue d'Horloge and avoid Saint-Esprit). Everything was close at hand: museums, shops and beach. We will certainly come back someday!

Les Volets Bleus - a great place to stay!

We've just spent a week at Les Volets Bleus, and wish it could have been a month! It is very comfortable, perfectly located, charming and nicely maintained. Because the owners often stay there, it is very well equipped with most anything you could need. (We did have a terrible time starting a fire in the barbecue, being used to a more modern grill, but persevered 2 evenings and had delicious meals on the terrace!) Everything we wanted in town was within walking distance. We did rent a car for a few day trips, and parking in Antibes wasn't easy, but it was very easy to get to other interesting places by car from the house. We had an excellent dinner at Le Figuerer right across the way - delightful service and delicious food. It was a big splurge for us, but we highly recommend it if it fits in your budget. If the dollar ever recovers we would love to go back to Les Volets Bleus for a longer stay.
