The apartment is in a quiet residential area in the town of Bandol. It is about 500 metres or 9 minutes from the nearest beach. The self contained accommodation has a magnificent view of the Mediterranean Sea with the Ile des Embriez immediately to the south. It comprises of a large room which is L shaped with separate kitchen and bathroom. In the entrance hall there are two single bunk beds which fold away fully made up during the day. The main room opens, through double doors, onto the large south-facing balcony with a full size sun blind and overlooks the garden, swimming pool and the Mediterranean Sea. There is a concealed double bed at the far end which folds down at night with convenient cupboards each side. The sitting area has leather armchairs together with a television DVD and video. There are 2 good sized wardrobes for clothes, etc..

The two apartment blocks and the pool can be viewed very well on Google Earth (please ask for details). Sandy beaches border the bay of Bandol and there is a harbour in the middle. Positioned between Marseille and Toulon, it is one of the oldest resorts on the French Riviera. The translucent waters of the Mediterranean Sea make for superb swimming and diving. The coastal footpath (le sentier littoral) will take you to secluded coves or there are many boat trips available to the Calangues and to the islands (Ile de Bendor and Ile des Embiez) or further afield to Les Iles d’Hyeres. Bandol is not well know to the British although, after prompting many people, speak English. It is the centre of the Bandol Wine Appellation and an excellent centre to tour the surrounding area. It is an easy distance from Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Nimes, Arles and the Camague, Hyeres, Le Lavendou, St.Tropez etc. There is a daily town market and a weekly Provencal market on a Tuesday.

Notes: The wine route will take you through the vineyards and hill villages of Cadiere d’Azure, Le Beausset, Le Castellet, St Cyr-sur-Mer and Sanary-sur-Mer and will give you a chance to visit some of Bandol’s 50 wine domains and allow you to have a tasting (une degustation) of some of the famous AOC red, white and rose wines that are produced here. At Le Castellet there is a motor racetrack and a museum once owned by Paul Ricard, of Pastis fame (who also owned the Island of Bendor and the more distant Ile des Embiez). It is now owned by Bernie Ecclestone. The picturesque village of Cassis and its famous calanques are only a short distance away. Marseille and the marshlands of the Camargue with its white horses, black bulls and pink flamingos also make enjoyable day trips. The Golf de Fregate golf course is just outside the town and has a 9 and an 18 hole course. There is also a tennis club open all year to visitors.

Getting to Bandol: Whilst we recommend a car, flights are available to Toulon (26miles), Marseille (27 miles), Avignon (90 miles) and Nice (97 miles) airports. Bandol railway station is 20 minutes walk away with a very good, fast train service from northern France. From Calais there is motorway all the way to Bandol (Junction 12 on the A50 from Aix-en-Provence to Toulon).

Other Activities: Most activities are catered for locally, ask about skiing during the winter.

Comfortable stay for relaxed french village life

Patterson apartment lies in Bandol, a small but beautiful village by the Mediterranean Sea in Cote de Azur, France. The nearest city is Toloun, and the nearest airport is in Hyeres. Me and my girlfriend had a number of expectations on our trip; we wanted a calm and pretty
village with plenty of restaurant with good food, nice beaches to explore and a genuine and charming atmosphere. All of these expectations were fulfilled. The village is small enough to feel safe and relaxed but large enough to offer numerous beaches and restaurants and a market for vedgetables and local specialities. In late August most of the visitors where french familys and elderly which added to the pleasent atmosphere.

Travelling to Bandol was pretty undramatic for us. We landed on the Hyeres airport and took a taxi to Toulon (60 Euro), were we got on a local train (3 Euro). Twenty minutes later we were in Bandol.
From the station it took us fifteen minutes to walk up to the house were Pattersons apartment is located. The house, which seems to have been build in the eighties lies in a gated yard, with plenty of trees,
a parking lot and a swimming pool. We found the the apartment itself suprisingly fresh, probably recently renovated, with a new kitchen and clinker and marble floor everywhere. The balcony was big
and from there we had a nice view over the sea and the mountains. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed for cooking including a dishwasher and a water heater. The main room was furnished with a small sofa, a table and a wardrobe bed together with two leather armchairs and a TV set. I found the bed rather hard, but not uncomfortable. The distance to Bandol center, as well as to the beach is about fifteen minutes walk. The Pattersons had recommended us to rent a car but since the distances were so short,we felt that it was unnecessary, instead we walked and used the excellent train communications to visit neighbouring cities and villages.

Rumour say that renting on the internet in France can be a hazzle, with tricky contracts, strange payment procedures and misunderstanding, so one of our main objectives was to find a landlord with whom we felt comfortable with. Our relationsship with the Pattersons was really what I had hoped for. Payment and contract was easy, we received plenty of usefulinformation before our arrival, and after our departure, deposit and key exchange worked smoothly.

we enjoyed our stay in Bandol

We stayed in this apartment for one week in July, and really enjoyed it! The apartment is clean and very organized. The owner is very helpful and friendly, from when we sent our initial inquiries to the moment we received the deposit. The owner also has a nice collection of books and maps in the apartment.

Bandol is a very nice small town which is just a few minutes to the beach. Its Tuesday market is highly recommended.

Some minor things may be improved: 1) hot water supply in the bathroom is not long enough (around 10 minutes), maybe the setting can be adjusted. 2) the dishwasher is not in a very good condition.

We really had a nice memory and hopefully we can go back to Bandol one day!!!

Good apartment in a good postion!

My family and I (2 adults & 2 children under 12) stayed here for 10 days in Aug 2008. From the day of booking, the communication and instructions/info from the owners Patrick & Daphne, was excellent. Driving from the Airport (Toulon the nearest with St.Tropez & Marseille Airport nearby), Bandol was straightforward to find. However, once in Bandol, the route to the apartment can be a bit tricky to navigate, even with Patrick's customized map.

This studio apartment was clean and comfortable, although a little cramped for 4 people (even two young children). However, most people don't go on holiday to stay in their apartment all day, so this wasn't a big issue. The spacious balcony overlooked the clean swimming pool and you also had a distant sea view.

The apartment is on a good complex, although the walk to the beach/main town is quite steep. The direct route/short cut takes around 10 minutes walk with the road walking route taking around 15 minutes. Bandol itself is a nice town with lots of restaurants/bars etc., and a pleasant promenade.

Overall, this apartment is a very nice place to stay and very good value. Recommend to all. We hope to return sometime in the future.
