We've been staying in John and Sandy's apt in La Garde Freinet (LGF) for 4 weeks in march 2010. The apt is in a new 3 storey building with only vacation apt's and for periods we were the only ones here. Despite it being across the public school, it's very quiet.
John has been very helpful and the apartment is taken care of by one of the local (english speaking) citizens of LGF.
The apt. is very nice with a kitchen w/dishwasher and washing machine, a large livingroom with diningtable and 2 couches and a TV, 2 bedrooms and 2 toilets (one with shower/bathtub). The floors are tiled and easy to keep clean (with 3 kids). And there's wifi! The apt. has it's own parking lot in front of the house and a garage in the backyard, where there's also a swimmingpool. There's 2 small gardens, one in front (with a stunning view) and one in the backyard.
As the owners state in their description, this is their home in France and it's very precise. I had the same feeling as when I'm borrowing my parents summerhouse. There's lot's of books and games and the kitchen's got salt, coffee and detergent (and there's toilet paper!). So you don't have to go shopping the first thing you arrive. The apt. was clean and everything was working. The owners invite people to use the stuff in the kitchen and supply when things run out and this concept seems to work very well.
In LGF you'll find lots of restaurants, 2 bakers, 2 butchers, a nice little supermarket, a post office, a "Presse" (news-papers in english), a tourist office and a variety of shops with clothes and local products, suggesting there might be some tourists in the summer. But at this time of year, it's a very french town.
Nearby is two huge supermarche's, a Geant on the way to St. Tropez and an E.Leclerc in Cogolin.
We've been visiting the nearby villages, which are all very picturesque; Gassin, Ramatuelle, Port Grimaud and Grimaud. We also went to the "Grand Canyon" of France, les Gorges du Verdon which is about 1,5 hours drive away. In LGF you can spend time trying to find your way in the narrow streets and take a walk uphill to "La Croix" or "Le Forte".
From the nearby city Les Arcs Draguignan we went with the TGV-train to Paris (you can park for free in front of the station at P1, P2 or take the P4 one block away), if you buy your tickets online, you can get them cheap and the ride only takes 5 hours.
All in all we've enjoyed are stay here in LGF and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this nice place to others.
