Set at an altitude of 1000ft in a National Park, La Garde Freinet, a village of local historical importance, is away from the hustle and bustle of the coastal strip yet it is only 20 minutes from Port Grimaud and St Tropez. It is a most beautiful (working) village with great character and lovely (permanent) residents. There are also fetes with music and dancing in the square in the summer and markets every Sunday and Wednesday mornings. The apt is very quiet and good for sleeping. Great walking - half a mile up the hill gives you panoramic views of the Golfe de St Tropez and the Southern Alps. The Tourist Board in the village provides info and walking maps. The central shopping area - 5 minutes away, is pedestrian only: ideal for children to run around whilst you are enjoying the restaurants and cafes. Its a lovely location. For more information about the apartment, village and area, contact the owners who will provide you with details.

Additional information about rental rates

  • We have priced the apartment competitively for young families and seniors who are suffering in the global recession. A euro 150/£120 deposit is required when you book and the balance paid 10 weeks before arrival. There is no damage deposit as we expect our clients to treat our home in France as their own home. We now quote our prices in euros because it is the currency in which we have to pay our expenses. In view of the credit crunch and the fall of the Sterling pound vs the euro we have dropped our prices to the British pounds equivalent of 2008 when the euro - GBP £ exchange rate was much more favourable to UK based clients. Bath towels and sheets are provided for the apartment and for this a laundry and ironing charge of 60 euros. A further 60 euros is charged for cleaning when the apartment is vacated. You can pay in euros or GBP £. Use the FX converter on the website.
  • A Welcome Food and Beverage Pack, inc milk, bread, butter, jam etc and wine, is provided so that the guest can relax before having to sort out the provisions. There are dry goods inc tea, coffee, cereals, cleaning and washing liquids in the kitchen cupboards which guests are invited to use and top up before leaving. Please bring your own beach/pool towels as the bath towels are not allowed outside the apt. We have a cot so if you want to use it please bring your own cot sheets and advise me when you make the booking. We provide a big bag of beach toys,in the garage, to save clients with young children having to buy endless buckets, spades and fishing nets that theyleave behind when they depart. Around the pool there are sunbeds which clients are free to use. The keys to the garage and electronic security gate are hung up in the kitchen. The Local Council in 2010 introduced a daily tax of 80 centimes per person but we will pay this, not the guests.
  • IN NOVEMBER THE COTE D'AZUR SUFFERED A DISASTER FROM STORMS AND FLOODING AND WE HAD A LANDSLIDE THAT FILLED THE POOL WITH MUD SO NOW THERE IS NO POOL AVAILABLE AND THE POOL AREA LOOKS A MESS. OUR APARTMENT AND GARDENS WERE NOT AFFECTED AND YOU CANNOT SEE THE POOL AREA WHEN SITTING IN THE FRONT OR BACK GARDENS. WE OFFERED GUESTS WHO HAD BOOKED LAST YEAR, CANCELLATION AND FULL REFUND OF DEPOSIT OR A 40% DISCOUNT ON QUOTED RATES IN THIS WEBSITE. THE NEAREST BEACH COGALIN MARINA IS 20 MINUTES AWAY.
In the village - 5 minutes down the hill there is small supermarket that opens 0900-1230 and from 1500-1900 hours and 2 bakers and 2 butchers.
The apt is available over Easter, Xmas and New Year. Try Xmas skiing at Isola 2000 just 2.5 hours away.
Arrival and departure dates for all year are negotiable as we realise that mid week flights are cheaper for our guests. However in Peak we prefer Sat arrivals and leavers as this what most people want..

Notes: The apartment is well furnished with a smart kitchen, modern light fittings, good beds, sofas, Italian patio furniture, rugs. It is our home. The garden is paved in terra cotta stones with deep hedges to give privacy and stop children climbing over the railings. The apartments are not crowded as most owners do not rent them. The residents are delightful and friendly and are mostly English speaking. The shops are down the hill, so breakfast croissants are 5 minutes away. There are 8 restaurants and markets on Sundays and Wednesdays. We provide a starter arrival pack including milk, bread, cheese etc and a bottle of wine to make you relax on arrival. There are dry provisions, olive oil, cereals, coffee, tea and cleaning/washing liquids in the kitchen. There is a Spar supermarket and 2 butchers in the village. One village butcher was featured in the Daily Telegraph, Nigella Lawson page. In the off-peak period a mid-week changeover can be negotiated.

Very nice apartment in beatiful town.

Review Submitted: March 5, 2011 Date of Stay: March 2010
We've been staying in John and Sandy's apt in La Garde Freinet (LGF) for 4 weeks in march 2010. The apt is in a new 3 storey building with only vacation apt's and for periods we were the only ones here. Despite it being across the public school, it's very quiet.
John has been very helpful and the apartment is taken care of by one of the local (english speaking) citizens of LGF.
The apt. is very nice with a kitchen w/dishwasher and washing machine, a large livingroom with diningtable and 2 couches and a TV, 2 bedrooms and 2 toilets (one with shower/bathtub). The floors are tiled and easy to keep clean (with 3 kids). And there's wifi! The apt. has it's own parking lot in front of the house and a garage in the backyard, where there's also a swimmingpool. There's 2 small gardens, one in front (with a stunning view) and one in the backyard.
As the owners state in their description, this is their home in France and it's very precise. I had the same feeling as when I'm borrowing my parents summerhouse. There's lot's of books and games and the kitchen's got salt, coffee and detergent (and there's toilet paper!). So you don't have to go shopping the first thing you arrive. The apt. was clean and everything was working. The owners invite people to use the stuff in the kitchen and supply when things run out and this concept seems to work very well.
In LGF you'll find lots of restaurants, 2 bakers, 2 butchers, a nice little supermarket, a post office, a "Presse" (news-papers in english), a tourist office and a variety of shops with clothes and local products, suggesting there might be some tourists in the summer. But at this time of year, it's a very french town.
Nearby is two huge supermarche's, a Geant on the way to St. Tropez and an E.Leclerc in Cogolin.
We've been visiting the nearby villages, which are all very picturesque; Gassin, Ramatuelle, Port Grimaud and Grimaud. We also went to the "Grand Canyon" of France, les Gorges du Verdon which is about 1,5 hours drive away. In LGF you can spend time trying to find your way in the narrow streets and take a walk uphill to "La Croix" or "Le Forte".
From the nearby city Les Arcs Draguignan we went with the TGV-train to Paris (you can park for free in front of the station at P1, P2 or take the P4 one block away), if you buy your tickets online, you can get them cheap and the ride only takes 5 hours.
All in all we've enjoyed are stay here in LGF and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this nice place to others.
