The Local Area:
The area where Montauroux is located is known as the “Pays de Fayence”, Fayence being the largest local village, while the “département” is The Var, boasting some of the finest scenery Provence has to offer. The countryside is predominantly wooded hillsides dotted with picturesque, perched villages and interspersed with luxuriant valleys and deep gorges sparkling with fast flowing rivers and crystalline rock pools. The clear waters of nearby Lake St. Cassien are excellent for swimming. It is also famous for carp fishing and offers a range of watersports. The nearest lake access is located a short drive down the road and there are many beaches and swimming areas dotted around the lake. You can also take a trip into the Tanneron hills and enjoy marvellous views over the lake and the Esterel National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty and spectacular peaks. There are also numerous interesting nearby villages such as Callian, Fayence, Seillans, Bargemon, St. Cezaire and Mons.
The Cote d'Azur:
The Riviera has been known since the early nineteenth century as Europe’s leading playground. As a holiday destination it is unsurpassed in the world, offering a beautiful stretch of coastline backed by the jagged peaks of the Alps, superbly maintained top class resorts, magnificent promenades and gardens, as well as a plethora of historic towns and ancient hilltop villages amid fabulous countryside, and with an exceptional climate, cuisine and wine. The coastline is an ever-changing series of glimmering bays interspersed with rugged rocky peninsulas and dramatic cliffs falling straight into the sea. The coastal towns are renowned the world over. Cannes is a 35 minute drive, Antibes 40 minutes and Nice 45 minutes. Our nearest beaches are at either Theoule, near Cannes or St. Raphael, both 25 minutes drive. Monaco is about an hour away and St. Tropez about an hour and a half, although it is advisable to take the ferry from St. Raphael in peak season when the St. Tropez area gets busy.
