The house is at least two centuries old with large airy rooms, recently modernised but with original features (tiles floors and marble fireplaces). CALLAS is a traditional Provencal hill village in the foothills of the Alps, with lovely views to the south over a valley to the Maures mountains, between the market town of Draguignan (15 minutes drive) and the perfume centre of Grasse. It is quiet, but only 30/45 minutes from the Cote d’Azur beaches, an hour’s drive from Nice airport, 40 minutes from a small but attractive ski resort. Callas is small and friendly. It has a bakery, a grocer, post office and weekly open market, and several small restaurants. It is 6 km from the lively village of Bargemon which has several good restaurants, shops and a swimming pool. The village is surrounded by oak and pine woods, fields, olive groves and vineyards, providing excellent walking country. It is within easy reach of the Gorges de Verdon, the lakes of St Cassien and Ste Croix.

Worthwhile day trips include the Fondation Maeght art gallery in St Paul de Vence, the Matissse Chapel in Vence, the Matisse and Chagal museums in Nice and the Picasso museum in Antibes.
