If you're looking for somewhere special for family or friends then this is it. Beautiful Provencal villages, St Tropez and beaches 40-45min, vineyards, golf, watersports, horse-riding, family entertainment - all nearby. 1 hour Nice and Toulon airports, Marseille 1hr 20min. HEATED 10 X 5 M Saline pool+electric security cover. The villa is furnished and equipped to an extremely high standard for easy home from home type living. It's light and spacious and sleeps 6 people comfortably. Child's z-bed (max age 12) and/or cot also available. Central Heating and duvets for cooler months. SKY TV, DVD, Video, Film Library. Callas is a pretty medieval Provencal village with a grocery, patisserie, post office with 24hr banking, Newsagent, Tourist Office, restaurants, Beauty Salon etc. There's a market in the square every Saturday. Only a 10 min drive is Draguignan, the old capital of the Var, where there is a wider selection of shops and supermarkets. Vineyards and Olive groves abound, creating a beautiful contrast against the Azure skies. Within 45 min you can be in the stylish resorts of St. Tropez, St. Maxime, Antibes or Cannes. There's a choice of sandy beaches, the closest being at St Aygulf or Les Issambres. 45min North you'll discover the spectacular Gorge du Verdon. There's a variety of golf courses within an hour's drive, St Endreol Golf with Day Spa being only 15 minutes. For children there are Waterparks, Zoos, crazy golf, village playground etc. Or, hire a bike, take a beautiful walk, or sit and do nothing but drink in the quiet, the views and the wonderful local wines. It's a special place.

Villa is more spacious than floor area implies. Included in your weekly rental are bed-linen, bath and pool towels, electricity, gas, cot and high chair, cleaning on departure and pool maintenance. Sports: The famous Gorge du Verdon offers Canyoning, Rafting Kayaking, sailing and swimming and beautiful sightseeing. The close lake of St Cassien also offers watersports. Bicycles, tennis courts and crazy golf available at Figanieres (5km) and we believe there's a new riding establishment about 1km out of the village. There are at least 8 golf courses within an hours drive. The nearest is the beautiful 18 hole course at St Endreol, La Motte (10-15mins). St Endreol also has a Day Spa with various treatment packages from €80. The Terre Blanche at the Four Seasons Hotel at Fayence (approx 25 mins) is stunning and now reportedly one of the best in the Provence/Cote d'Azur area. A keen golfing client recommended Taulane as one of the most beautiful he's ever played and with wonderful restaurant. In winter Downhill Skiing available at Praloup, Isola 2000 and Auron (2hrs drive) or more locally at Greolieres (45mins). Ever been gliding? Try it at Fayence. Callas has it's own Tourist Office.

Medical: Callas has a medical centre and dentist. The doctor speaks some English. A general hospital with Emergency department is at nearby Draguignan (15-20 minutes). Nearest Pharmacies are at Bargemon (5mins drive) and Figanieres (10 mins drive).

Wine: There are hundreds of wine Domaines in the region. You'll pass 6 or 7 just driving from the motorway to the house. In the villa is a book 'The Top 100 Vineyards in Provence' which is just a tiny fraction of what's available or read what other guests have enjoyed in our visitors wine book. Dame Jeanne in the village has an enviable selection. Plenty of sampling on offer. Try the Maison des Vins at Les Arcs which is laid out like a library of wine from only the Provence region. They have at least a dozen wines on tasting.

A noisy place if you have time to listen

We're friends of the owners of this villa, so we knew how much love, care and hard work went into every brick in this property as they developed it. But we also booked it for a week-long, family holiday this summer on the rather more selfish basis that we knew we'd get a fantastic standard of accommodation

We weren't wrong. The villa was superb. The children loved the easy access to beaches, waterparks, lakes, mountains and the private pool. We loved the village, the food and the wines.

But we got even more than we'd expected. The introduction on this site describes it as "tranquil" and "somewhere special" and after just one week I was relaxed enough to write a comment along these lines in the visitors' book:


L’Etoile du Sud is a very noisy place.

If you have time to listen.

Lie in the pool with the oily, heady scent of lavender washing over you and listen to the lazy roar of bees, the flap of endless, spectacular butterflies, the steady purposeful march of ants. Feel the sun creep over your rain-soaked Northern limbs and hear the scuttle of the geckos hurrying about in the rocks behind you.

As the sun sets slowly over the many shades of green, hear the wind from the dragonflies as they swoop and soar in front of you. Listen as the distant dogs settle to sleep, the church bells beat their subtle eternal rhythm, the lights of distant towns merge into the bright lights of the stars.

I'm convinced if we'd been able to stay longer I would have been able to hear the soft rustle of the tiny white snails clmbing to the top of the blades of grass and the creaking cells of olives swelling in the intense sunshine.

It is a beautiful place to listen.

beautiful location, beautiful house.

L'Etiole is probably the nicest holiday house we have ever rented and certainly exceeded expectations. It is exceptionally well equipped, and is spotlessly clean. The furnishings are very good quality, and you feel instantly at home. Our party of two adults and three young adults found plenty to do during the day, but in the evening we were all just content to make supper and sit under the mulberry trees drinking the excellent local rose!

The location is dreamilike really - wonderful views, and a lovely pool area to sit and relax. the Gorges du Verdon are nearby, and the younger members of the party were off hiking and white water rafting, whilst we wandered around some of the pretty local towns and visited local markets.

My only disappointment is that we did not book two weeks - we had only just started to unwind and relax and it was time to come home!

This villa surpassed our expectations. Every room was finished to such a high standard, with attention to detail. The spacious layout was suitable for families with children of any age, or for couples sharing, each with their own en suite. The kitchen was well equipped, and the lounge area comfortable. Sky tv was a bonus.
Outside the views were spectacular, patio areas had shade for dining. The pool and surrounding terrace was larger than expected,with good quality loungers . Pool towels were provided, which helped with luggage.
The owner and manager were helpful and easily contactable.

A Fabulous holiday had by all.

L'Etoile du Sud is a truly exceptional villa with views over the village which are breath taking.
We spent two wonderful weeks in August here with our two children and two friends, we all had such a wonderful time we didn't want to go home.
The pool is fantastic which was needed in the hot weather with plenty of room around to top up that tan!
A car is needed for venturing out with days out at the many markets around and a boat trip from Saint Maxime over to St Tropez is a must.
You can walk down to the local village which we did every day to get our fresh baguettes and sit and have a coffee and watch the world go by there is a steep hill on the way back up which didn't deter us, keeps you fit!
We will never forget our time spent at L'Etoile du Sud best holiday we've ever had. A special place you'll never forget.

Absolute Heaven! The house just has everything you need for a deeply relaxing holiday, very clean and we had a warm reception from the gardener and manager. We were nervous about going on holiday with our first baby but there was no need as very baby friendly. Great weather and views to enjoy whilst drinking the wine on the balcony. How i wish we could all be back there, we really couldn't recommend it any more! P.S The photos dont do the amount of space you have justice.
