The famous 'perched' village of Fayence is an appealing place. It's one of the larger hill villages behind the Cote d' Azur, other hill villages close by are Montauroux, Callian and Seillans. It's about a half hour from Cannes, the same from St. Tropez and Frejus, and 45 minutes from Nice airport, so it's very close to the fashionable Riviera, yet it edges into beautiful Provence. It is an ideal central base from which to explore the glorious coastline or go inland to Grasse, St Paul de Vence or the spectacular Gorges du Verdon. Half an hour away is at Mandelieu - a very attractive place indeed with its Chateau and port. Between there and Fayence in the middle of the Massif de l'Esterel is the stunning Lac de St Cassien, a popular alternative to the Med - swimming, sailing, fishing and pedalos. The ski slopes of the Alpes Maritime are only one and a half hours away, closest being Valberg, a really pretty and authentic Alpine village with good pistes and skiing for all abilities.
