Lovely relaxing villa in South of France

La Rose des Vents is a lovely villa, a short walk from the bustly town of Fayence, and definitely worth a visit. It is beautifully maintained, clean, spacious and very well-equipped. The pool area is absolutely magnificent, and there’s copious amounts of outside space to relax in and enjoy a barbeque and a glass of rosé or two!
The boules area, huge book and DVD selection, and well-equipped kitchen are great additional touch.
Fayence itself is a lovely town, with plenty of restaurants and bars, a great ice-cream parlour, and a good market 2-3 days per week. It’s not the most picturesque village in the South of France, but definitely pleasant enough, and Mons, a stunning hilltop town just a short drive away, definitely makes up for this. The Lac St Cassien was definitely worth a visit for a quick pedalo and dive into the refreshing lake, and towns like Cannes are close enough if you want a little bit of glamour. We would not recommend attempting to go to St Tropez, however, as the queues to get into town are horrific.
There were a couple of downsides to the villa to be aware of - the fridges and cupboards, while plentifully stocked, seem only to include products that are extraordinarily out of date (the best find was a pot of herbs that were best before 1992!!). In addition, while the owners are the definition of discretion, they do still live onsite and use the same driveway and access areas, so you do see them coming and going from time to time. Finally, despite double checking before making the booking, it turned out that there was no internet access at the villa, so if this is important to you, then it’s worth asking again. We did manage to find a bar in the village that provided cost-effective internet access, but having to go into town every day to do 30 minutes of work does detract from the pleasure of being on holiday!
Overall though, we would definitely recommend La Rose des Vents for a wonderfully relaxing holiday.
Owner's Response: We are delighted that Philip and Sophie enjoyed staying in our home, and felt fit to write this review. Unfortunately, we can not be held responsible for the lack of service from France Telecom, who now seem to be ignoring our requests for the line to be replaced. We do state clearly on the website that we live on the premises, most people regard this as a bonus, as they can contact us easily if anything goes wrong. As to the contents of the cupboards, sorry, we simply don't take those best before dates very seriously, but we have to agree that 1992 does seem a bit extreme! (That pot has been removed.) Lucy
