Additional information about rental rates

  • Bastidon des Oliviers may be rented as two independent units or by one party wishing to occupy the whole property, with the exception of the peak period between June 12th and September 4th 2010, when we only accept bookings for the entire accommodation. One party of up to ten people can comfortably be accommodated, but if the villa and the apartment are let separately, we limit occupancy to a maximum of eight. The apartment will normally only be rented to couples as a separate let unless the villa is booked by less than 6 people.
The pricing shown is for the whole property for groups of up to 6 except for the period June 27th to August 28th 2009 when the price is for up to 10 people. Pricing for 10 is slightly higher than shown for 6 in the off peak months. In July and August the price is for groups of up to 10. At off peak times we price according to occupancy so smaller groups pay less.
  • Pricing is fully inclusive of linen, cleaning, electricity, gas, water.
  • We provide sheets and continental quilts (and/or blankets, if you prefer) for all the beds, together with one bath towel and one hand towel per person. The linen is changed once a week and the accommodation will be thoroughly cleaned prior to your arrival with a briefer weekly clean during your stay for bookings of two weeks or more. A cot (but without bedlinen) and high chair are also available for your use.

Further details for this holiday villa rental in Fayence, France

The Villa Grounds: The property is set in its own terraced olive grove in a peaceful location, offering splendid views from all points over the surrounding hills and the villages of Claviers and Bargemon. The villa and grounds are South facing and enjoy maximum day long sunshine throughout the year. Silk trees provide natural shade for summer dining on the terrace in front of the villa, and there is also a covered patio in front of the apartment on the lower level. Both dining areas have gas barbecues and benefit from lovely views over the surrounding area. The poolside is fully equipped with garden furniture and parasols. The large overflow pool (11m x 4m), pool terrace and extensive private gardens are available for the enjoyment of all guests. There is an attractive balustrade at each side of the pool to prevent children jumping off the terrace and there is a child safety alarm for the pool. A quiet road leads directly from the grounds to Claviers village, about a 10 minute walk away.

The Local Area: Claviers is located in a beautiful area of The Var, boasting some of the finest scenery Provence has to offer. The countryside is predominantly wooded hillsides dotted with picturesque, perched villages and interspersed with luxuriant valleys and deep gorges sparkling with fast flowing rivers and crystalline rock pools. The Claviers area has all of this, plus mile after mile of pine and olive groves, vineyards, châteaux and villages untouched by the passing of time. Quite incredible when you appreciate how close it is to the sophisticated coast. There are numerous interesting nearby villages. Seillans and Bargemon have both been voted amongst the most attractive villages in France but in our view all the local villages are very attractive and worth a visit in their own right. Other villages include Callas, unspoilt and typical of the area, Fayence, the largest and busiest with a lovely viewpoint and famous gliding club and Chateaudouble, perched on the edge of it's gorge.

The Cote d'Azur: The Cote d'Azur has been known since the early nineteenth century as Europe’s leading playground. As a holiday destination it is unsurpassed in the world, offering a beautiful stretch of coastline backed by the jagged peaks of the Alps, superbly maintained top class resorts, magnificent promenades and gardens, as well as a plethora of historic towns and ancient hilltop villages amid fabulous countryside and with an exceptional climate, cuisine and wine. The coastline is an ever-changing series of glimmering bays interspersed with rugged rocky peninsulas and dramatic cliffs falling straight into the sea. The coastal towns are renowned the world over. Cannes is a 45 minute drive from the villa, Nice and St. Tropez one hour and St. Raphael 35 minutes. The coastal drive on the from La Napoule to St. Raphael is full of dramatic scenery backed by the red craggy mountains of the Esterel National Park. It is here you will find our nearest coastal beaches (35-40 minutes drive).

Other Activities: Gliding, canyoning, rowing, canoeing

We have spent the majority of our holidays in France for the last 16 years and your villa was definitely the best accommodation we have stayed in. C.H. Derbyshire. The setting was superb. The villa was well equipped, furnished and tended, and in the most beautiful area. J.S. Kent. We had the loveliest time. The villa is very comfortable and set up in a very thoughtful and comprehensive way. The “Guide” to the villa and the area was superb. P.M. USA. Villa superb, everything spotlessly clean, well stocked and presented. K.H. W. Midlands. Our third visit – superb as always. V.C. Surrey. A perfect holiday villa – well equipped, beautiful views..we rarely return to the same venue twice for our holidays but Bastidon des Oliviers might just tempt us! W.C. Cambs. Three marvellous weeks…the real star is the villa itself and its surroundings, and the pool – superb. R.A. Cleveland. Second visit – fantastic place! Everything you need, lovely house, beautiful setting. S.J. Herts

Summer holidays 2009

July 09 UK
Review Submitted: August 20, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We spent 2 weeks at the Bastidon des Oliviers in July 2009. We went with another family and so this house was perfect as it allowed us to holiday together but to have our own space as well. The house (for which I mean both villa and apartment) was very well stocked down to the little things like salt, cooking oil, washing up liquid, tea towels etc. We found the owners very helpful and pleasant both before and during our stay. The detailed rental agreement did scare us somewhat but I'm assuming the owners have had a bad experience with guests in the past and so wanted to ensure that every eventuality was covered. The property was very clean and someone came to clean and change sheets/towels half way through the holiday as well.
Fans were provided in all bedrooms but we did find it very hot at nightime on the top floor . Any chance of putting in airconditioning in these 2 rooms?
The detailed information left by the owners was useful but geared more towards an older age group, giving information on the best restaurants and local art galleries etc. Perhaps you could provide more information on activities for families with (young) children?
The pool was fantastic. Often we just spent the whole day at the villa just enjoying the children playing in the pool. My one comment here, though, would be to suggest that the owners fit a small fence and gate to the side of the house leading to the pool. This really wouldn't take much (and we managed to block it off by using 3 sunloungers turned on their side) but would offer much better peace of mind to people with young children. I appreciate that there is a pool alarm but we didn't want to rely on this.
The location of the house was lovely and was close to some beautiful villages. We ate in Claviers a few times which was nice but the restaurant owner (waitress?) wasn't at all friendly to us - not sure if it was the number of children we had with us (5) or the fact we were English but we definitely got a chilly reception. Thankfully everyone else we encountered on holiday was very friendly and we had some lovely days out at the St Cassien Lake.
Our local shop was the Proxi at Bargemon which was very well stocked and only a few minutes away by car. Bit shocked by the price of everything though (£12 for 3 ice-creams!) but I guess that's the South of France and a poor exchange rate for you. Overall a great holiday which we would recommend to others.
Owner's Response: We appreciate this thoughtful review and would just like to give our response to some points raised.
We have tried to make the Rental agreement as thorough as possible to protect both parties. It means our customers can be certain our properties will be well maintained and any problems dealt with rapidly.
We don't have any current plans to install air conditioning as normally the night temperatures are pleasant and it is sufficient to open the windows (leaving the shutters closed if customers prefer). We will, however, be installing a gate between the house and pool so children cannot just wander there at will.
The owner of one of the Claviers restaurants is indeed unfriendly (seemingly to most people!) but we think it is just her manner. The people in the other restaurant are very friendly and there are lots of local restaurants to choose from. Equally the local shop in Bargemon is more expensive than the larger supermarkets but it is generally well stocked and very convenient.
Finally it is a fair comment about our information as it is based on our own experiences. We'll bear this in mind when we next update it. The local tourist offices do provide a good range of brochures with activities for all ages.

Bastidon des Oliviers 9th-16th May 2009 The Villa

yaswantoo peterborough UK
Review Submitted: June 15, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
My son and I had no problem locating the property and the precise directions given by the owners allowed us to arrive ahead of schedule from Nice Airport. We also took their advice and 'stocked up' at the LeClerc supermarket on the way.
Initially the property may seem remote, because the many trees shield the nearby properties and offer great privacy. If you are looking for a quiet location this is ideal. The large well equipped terrace has lovely distant views of the two nearby villages Claviers and Bergamon, and once the early morning sun has cleared the trees it is bathed in sunshine until sunset. At least it was when we were there. The pool, at the rear of the Villa, was clean, large and gave great views over the valley. It was also visually private. However, at that time of year, I decided the water was too cold for the elderly.
The Villa itself ? Very spacious, comfortably furnished and provided everything we needed. Mind you once I have found the corkscrew I relax. I cooked every evening and enjoyed working in the kitchen, everything I needed was there. It is easy to serve meals/ snacks both inside and outside from the kitchen.
The bedrooms were of good size, light and airy, the ground floor bathroom was large and a shower and toilet were also at this level. Upstairs the bedrooms enjoyed a private balcony giving views over the valley. Perhaps a shower at this level could be considered. At least there is a toilet and wash basin for the over indulged.
The position of this Villa gives good access to many areas. The close villages of Claviers and Bergamon are both worth a visit, the latter, being larger has several shops including a small but well stocked supermarket.
During our stay we visited the Gorges du Verdon, Grasse and its nearby gorge, Nice, Cannes, St Tropez and travelled the length of the coast road between Nice and St Tropez. At that time of year, away from weekends, the roads were not too busy, but in summer the road to St Tropez should be avoided, but not St Tropez. Take the ferry from Ste-Maxime, it's frequent and takes you into the harbour. Go rub shoulders with the famous or let them rub shoulders with you, watch them consume their lobsters and pink champagne on their yachts, there's always a burger bar behind you.
So yes. we enjoyed our holiday at Bastidon des Oliviers, it allowed us to visit many places, to see many things and was always a lovely place to return to in the evening, even if I did choose to cook the meals myself

that elusive feeling

Review Submitted: June 12, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
How to be efusive yet avoid the usual phrases? Impossible I fear,- wonderful villa, magnificent setting, clean and well maintained facilities, and an unforgettable holiday enjoyed by three generations, and a chorus of 'please can we come back next year?' . But perhaps most importantly, the elusive feeling that for a short time it really was ours.
