Situated in France's Provence-Verte region in the medieval village of Entrecasteaux approximately 1 hour's drive from the coast, stands this well appointed modern Provencal villa. The property is South facing built in the traditional 'L' shaped style around a very large patio which incorporates a heated pool of 9 x 4 meters, shaded terraces and a delightful outside dining room. Ground floor- large living/dining room with fireplace, fitted kitchen,2 bedrooms (1 twin and 1 double), bathroom with bath/shower and WC. Separate WC. All downstairs rooms have French windows onto the patio. First floor - master bedroom (double), which is en-suite and with a small balcony. The property enjoys an elevated, sheltered position, surrounded by pine trees and olives, where a family or group of six can enjoy in peace and privacy the beautiful Provencal countryside, yet it is only a ten minute walk down into the village.

Entrecasteaux is located 25km north-east of Brignoles. Built on a rocky elevation it is one of the prettiest villages in the region and has kept its original charm that goes back to the XI century. The Chateau in the centre of the village was built in the XVI C on the ruins of an XI C fort and boasts a garden designed by Le Notre (who set out the gardens of Versailles). The old paved streets, lined with tall and narrow village houses, complete the picture of an unspoilt medieval village

Location: The property is approximately 1 hour's drive from the beaches of Ste Maxime and St Tropez and the cities of Aix-en-Provence and Marseille. International airports include Marseille (1 hour), Nice (1 hour) and Toulon-Hyeres (1hour).

Activities: The property offers a perfect base for exploring Provence and the Cote d'Azur. There are numerous local markets, vineyards and restaurants. Local attractions include the Abbaye du Thoronet, and the waterfall of Sillans La Cascade (20 mins away). The Lac Ste Croix and the fabulous Gorges du Verdon (The Grand Canyon of Europe) with its many activities including, sailing, white water rafting, kayaking, boating and swimming are only 1 hour's drive away.

Beautiful Provence

This is a delightful property. It feels like a home rather than a holiday villa. The lounge opening out onto the pool area is a lovely feature and enabled us to keep an eye on the Wimbledon mens final while nipping out for more sun and swims when play was interrupted by rain.
The owner, Martin, was extremely helpful in our preparations for our holiday.
The property is looked after by Lenny, an English expat, who also runs the Entrecasteaux Cricket Club and who is a mine of useful information.
The property is situated on the top of a pine clad hill which is full of birds and cicadas. It is about a half mile walk down the lane (a steep pull back up!) to the delightful village of Entrecasteaux where the boulangerie sells excellent bread and croissants.
This is a beautiful part of Provence with steep wooded valleys and plenty of vineyards and it is about an hour's drive to the amazing Gorges de Verdon.
All in all a wonderful holiday. This villa is ideal for lazing by the pool or as a centre for visiting the beautiful Var area.
Owner's Response: The following review pleases me enormously. Provence is a beautiful part of the world and although the South Coast can be rather crowded in the summer, 35 miles inland remains tranquil and full of character. The surrouding villages have hardly altered in my 25 years of holidaying in Entrecasteaux. My children and grand children all enjoy our holidays in Provence. If you want a holiday that is relaxing and where you can get far from the "madding crowd". Visit the region and see for yourselves, you will not be disappointed.

Fantastic Summer break August 2009

The villa was superb - very clean, great location and well looked after by Len. From the moment we arrived and were warmly greeted by Len who showed us how everything worked we knew this would be a great holiday. The heated pool was superb. The boys were hardly out of it and even managed to swim at 10pm most nights. There was always shade around the pool which was invaluable considering we had temperatures regularly over 36C!
The village of entrecasteaux was gorgeous - great place to sit at the bars and watch the world go by. Although the walk to the village was beautiful, the steep hill climb to get back really had to be done when the sun wasn't too hot especially with children. Nevertheless, being up in the hills was just lovely. Great pizzas at the local pizza restaurant that we took home many a night!
Overall, this has to be one of the very best holidays we have had. Having the villa cleaned and bedlinen and towels changed mid stay was a bonus for us and we cannot praise Len enough for his genuine love of the area and his easy approach to life.
Would highly recommend the property to anyone!!

A great holiday in a lovely Villa, very quiet and with a nice walk down to the nearby village (lovely views over nearby countryside) . The property is well maintained with ceiling fans in all bedrooms and living room area, it has a secluded pool and extensive patio area with plenty of shaded areas, needed during our 2 weeks of non stop sunshine. Lenny, whom looks after the property and is based in the nearby village, was on hand to help with any queries we had and to suggest routes to destinations helping to avoid the crowds at this busy time of the year.

Great place to visit the Verdon Gorge (approx 1 hour away) and also the coast including St Tropez also 1 hour (Park at Port Grimaud and get the ferry - thanks Lenny). Tourtour is also a must if you like pretty villages.

I would recommend this property to anyone seeking a peaceful retreat in a lovely area of France.

Hello David
I just wanted to thank you for the use of your fabulous villa over half term. We had a fantastic holiday, not least because it was unexpectedly hot and sunny every day and the pool was warm, just as you promised. The villa was wonderful and well kitted out- the kids were delighted to have satellite TV to argue over and that gave us some peace and quiet too (not to mention the chance to watch Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares after dinner one night- bliss!)
The village was beautiful.

We absolutely loved the villa (as you said we would) and were extremely impressed with the comfort, presentation and how well equipped it was. The villa certainly has real “homely” feel to it unlike many other rental properties and we settled into it within 5 minutes!
