Photos and Description of this Salernes holiday villa
4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 7 (+2 in en-suite cabanon also available)

Spacious family villa with south-facing gardens and terraces of about 1 acre. The house, pool and grounds, which contain oaks and olives, enjoy privacy and attractive views of the secluded rural valley. The house is on 3 levels, and is specially insulated so that the interior is pleasantly cool in summer. The rooms are spacious with high ceilings and oak beams. The kitchen is particularly well equipped. The pool (serviced twice weekly) is close to the house. It is 10 x 5m, fully ceramic-tiled, has underwater lights, exterior floodlighting and solar panel heating for spring and late-summer use. On all sides it is surrounded by spacious natural stone-covered terraces (8 sun-loungers) and many shrubberies and potted plants. At one end this extends to a cool tree-shaded terrace with suspended bed/chair, hammocks, seats and stone table. There are boules and badminton courts (not championship standard but good fun!) - and table-tennis. The en-suite cabanon is 5 metres from the house.

Our villa is located in a quiet valley near Salernes, a part of Var characterised by small medieval villages, unspoiled wooded hills and vineyards. It is 2 miles both from Salernes, a lively typically Provençal market town (2000 population) and from Entrecasteaux, a picturesque old village. Salernes with its old hill castle and Roman bridge has excellent amenities with banks, doctors, dentists, supermarkets and a wide array of shops mostly around the beautiful tree-lined square. This, with its open air cafés and restaurants, is the scene of a twice-weekly lively market. Entrecasteaux is a great place from which to watch the world go by. It is dominated by an impressive château, recently renovated and well worth a visit. There are many nearby guide book listed restaurants. The area is off the main tourist track but there is a long list of interesting things to do and to see. You can have many walks from our doorstep, or further afield and there are many easy day trips to be taken.

Les Amourenes is a marvellous creation - you have thought of everything. What a holiday! Long discussions over outdoor meals, midnight swims, butterflies, walks up the valley and an exciting gorge trip. Family C London
We leave today and we should be feeling sad but we don't because we have had a brilliant family holiday in a most picturesque and relaxing house with endless things to explore in this area. D & A Worthing
A lovely and easy-to-work villa. This has been a delicious mixture of sporting activity and slothful indolence. Family L Glasgow

Four very enjoyable holidays

Review Submitted: October 29, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
A review of this type is only of real value to potential locateurs if it makes a fair balance between a villa’s attractions and its problems, as there are bound to be some of the latter. Having said this, the fact that I have now spent four holidays at Les Amourenes and enjoyed them all immensely says that I think this is a lovely place. I strongly recommend it. It offers peace and quiet, privacy, an attractive villa, a beautiful pool and a variety of sun or shaded terraces. It is in good condition, well cared for, very well equipped, a lot of detailed needs have been anticipated and it was accurately described in the Holiday Rentals publicity. You don’t feel you are in a rented place. The pool is tiled with underwater lighting which makes even midnight swims very inviting. One of the attractions, particularly if it is very hot, is the tree shaded area beyond the pool which has a swinging “bed”, a hammock, tables and seats- great also for an aperitif. The owners have gone to a lot of trouble in creating “the book!”, which provides invaluable information, not only about how the place works but things to do, places to visit, the best shops in Salernes and local restaurants. There are far more things to do in this attractive area than you will have time for- if you can prise yourself away from the villa and the pool.
As for the downside, if your looking for the beaches and the glamour of the Med then they are at best an hours drive away- and longer if the coastal traffic is bad. Whatever you do don’t get stuck in the crawl trying to get out of St. Tropez in the late afternoon. The rooms of the villa are all of a good size with the lounge being particularly spacious with its high ceilings; however, the one exception is the upstairs double bedroom which, whilst romantic(!), is a bit of a squeeze and has a sloping ceiling, low at one end.
However you will be very lucky indeed to find a better place than Les Amourenes.

A little corner of paradise

Review Submitted: October 23, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
This was our 3rd holiday in Les Amourennes and it seemed even better than we remembered. The house is hidden in the hills of Provence and when you sit on the terrace you feel totally private. Suddenly you are aware of the beautiful light, butterflies and birdsong and within minutes you start to relax. It is a little corner of paradise and the perfect antidote to a busy city life.
The pool is heaven. In the day there is always a corner of the terrace which is a sun trap and at night the pool is flood lit and perfect for midnight dips. The outside table is under a vine covered pergola and always provides shade. Somehow every meal feels special eaten there, lunches sheltering from the sun, dinners under the stars. The kitchen is well equipped and with the market in Salernes and the 2 local supermarkets it is easy to self cater.
Although it feels like you are miles from civilisation Salernes is only a short drive away. It is a delightful little town with a bustling market twice a week. Although you certainly hear a few English voices it is predominantly for the local French residents with a good selection of vegetable, cheese and fruit stalls.
It is hard to drag yourself away from Les Amourennes, but there are lots of lovely walks straight from the house and there are many beautiful villages a short drive away. There is an information book in the house which is full of recommended restaurants, walks and excursions.
The description in the advert is very accurate. This is a much loved family home with many personal touches. It does not feel like you are staying in a rented property but staying with your very best friends.
It is October now and we still talk about the week we spent in Les Amourennes. I would certainly recommend it to my friends, but don't want too many people to hear about it!! It would equally suit a couple wanted to get away from it all, to families with children of all ages. In fact I have been with friends, toddlers and teenagers over the years and each holiday has been perfect.
Enjoy the bottle of local wine the owners chill in the fridge for your arrival before you unpack!

VILLA IN PROVENCE

Review Submitted: January 19, 2010 Date of Stay: July 2009
Having stayed at this villa six times in the last twelve years for various family celebrations (special birthdays, wedding anniversaries, etc) we have no hesitation in recommending this property. The location is tranquil set amidst pines and small oak trees and yet within a few miles of a charming Provencal town with good shops (bakers, butchers, etc), a supermarket and twice-weekly market. There are plenty of places to explore in the area but we are usually happy to relax on the loungers by the pool which is wonderful. There are some good restaurants around but the terrace is perfect for alfresco dining and there is a built-in BBQ. The villa is very comfortable and well maintained by the owners. We have not found a holiday property to equal it but a car is essential to get full enjoyment of this beautiful area. The commrnts in the visitors' book show what wonderful holidays have been enjoyed here.

Seven holidays here to date.

Review Submitted: January 18, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2009
Spending a holiday at Les Amourenes is much more than staying in a rented villa: we feel that we are sharing a home in the sun. It is a beautiful and relaxing little corner of Provence with lots of plants and flowers, places to enjoy food and drink, shady spots if it gets too hot and comfortable sunloungers (with thick cotton covered cushions, not plastic) around a large tiled pool. It is well equipped (the kitchen in particular), easy to run and well looked after. Each year we go, there is always some new feature somewhere. Salernes is an attractive small town with a lovely market square right in the centre. It is big enough to have all the facilities that a holiday family needs. Although it is not overrun with tourists it does get a litle busier each year on market days. There are so many places to visit- either walks from the doorstep, or the villages and sights in the nearby area or trips further afield such as the Gorge du Verdon and its lake or the coast and Nice or Aix. But you have to be very determined to shake off the blissful sense of relaxation and peace that Les Amourenes induces.
We are looking forward to more of all this on our eighth visit this year!!
