Contact us for the address of our comprehensive website. Our family in Provence has 18 years experience of renting holiday accommodation in the Vidauban area and we completed the refurbishment of this wonderful old house in 2001. Having spent 15 years restoring Vidauban’s original Pigeonnier, we got bored sitting by the pool and decided it was time to get our hands dirty again! There was a house on this site as far back as records go and the occupiers grew and produced wine since there are the remains of a tiled Cave. Now we lease the vines on a 9-year cycle to Fereud, one of the most prestigious domains in the area whose cave is 5 min walk from the house. A couple of bottles with our compliments await your arrival! Quartier Hôpital is surrounded by many typical and historic provincial towns, all within very easy reach, and as you travel this countryside you are invited to taste (and buy!) the local wines at every turn.

The surrounding area

This house stands in the vineyards known on older maps as Quartier Hôpital outside the village of Vidauban - 5 minutes away by car. It is a small “working” French town straddling the R.N 7, the famous ‘A’ road which, before the autoroute, bought all motor traffic from the north to the south of France. With a good supermarket, a great fishmonger, butchers, bakers and a greengrocer who speaks perfect English (he says he learnt at school!!) together with a celebrated combined shoe and ladies fashion shop (‘IMPERIA’) that would not be out of place on the main street of any European capital city, you don’t need to travel far if you really want a lazy holiday. Market day is Sunday with a smaller market on Wednesdays. Everything is within 5 mins walk of the town square. On the way into the town (from direction Le Luc) and opposite the junction with the D48 is a large parking area 1min walk from the square. The town has doctors, dentists, a chiropractor and three chemists.

Eating out

There are some truly extraordinary eating experiences in the wider area - but within Vidauban itself you can eat extremely well - there is the long established Michelin guide Restaurant “Le Concorde” in the main square but the owner, chef Alain Boeuf, has some serious local competition now …. his brother has opened a rival establishment 2 mins walk away, “Le Bastide de Magnans,” now also in the Michelin Guide. The food and the setting are fantastic. Booking is essential in summer since eating sur terrasse is obligatory and space becomes limited. For all the family there’s also a rather special Bretron creperie/pizza restaurant “La Bouteille dans la Mer” – again book to ensure a place on the covered terrace…that pizza oven gets trés chaud in August! There's great take-away pizza and a deli that does a different take-away lunch every day and several cafes - our favourite being “Le Café de Paris” which does a lunch for all the family on the town square.
