Recently sympathetically restored by its present owners to include two self-contained holiday apartments offering every modern convenience, La Bergerie is an attractive old Provencal mas built in local stone about 250 years ago. Surrounded by orchards and vineyards, and peacefully located overlooking a fertile valley in the heart of Provence, it is difficult to describe the feeling of total calm experienced as you laze by the pool with a good book or wander the fields and lanes surrounding the property, where the only sounds you hear are the cicadas in the trees; yet a short distance away is the lovely village of Malaucene with all the small shops and cafes you could need to make your holiday perfect.

Les Vignes, sleeping 2 people, is a sympathetically restored, self-contained ground floor apartment in the oldest part of the house with lovely south-facing views across the garden to the vineyard and hills beyond. A glass outer door and inner old oak door lead to the fully equipped Kitchen/Dining Room including an electric oven and hob, fridge and microwave. The living room has seating for two people plus TV (BBC/ITV + French channels), DVD and Cd/cassette/radio. Two steps lead down from the kitchen to a double bedroom and spacious shower room with WC and twin hand basins. Personal terrace with Garden Table and chairs plus Parasol and Barbecue. More tables and chairs scattered throughout the garden.

La Bergerie is situated at the foot of Mont Ventoux, in the most tranquil location imaginable, yet only a 2km level walk from the thriving village of Malaucene with its many cafes, restaurants and bars, its avenue of plane trees and its fortified old town and ancient church. The lovely Roman town of Vaison la Romaine lies just 10km to the north with the historic cities of Avignon and Orange, the Pont du Gard and the famous Cotes du Rhone wine trail all easily accessible, and the Luberon, the Camargue and the Mediterranean only 1 1/2 hrs drive south.

  • Above rates are based on 2 sharing.
  • The apartment is available from 4pm and departure is requested before 10am to enable cleaning for next guests. A non-refundable deposit of 25% is required at time of booking. The balance (75%) should be paid 8 weeks prior to arrival together with the £100 security deposit against damage and breakages. This will be returned by cheque or bank transfer one week after departure, provided the property has been left in good order. Unless an alternative currency is agreed with the owners in advance, payment is normally made in £GB by bank transfer or by giro transfer via any High Street Bank. However, we are always pleased to accept payment in euros.
    Cancellation Policy: In the unlikely event of cancellation, clients are liable for the full cost of rental unless the owners are able to re-let the property. If this can be done, a refund will be made. We strongly advise clients to arrange holiday insurance that provides cancellation cover.

Getting Here: By Air: Ryanair operate low-cost flights from Luton {daily), Liverpool and East Midlands to Nimes (Garons) just 1 1/4 hrs driving time from Malaucene. BA fly into Marseilles ( Marignane), a 11/2 hrs transfer by car, as do EasyJet who have a daily low-cost flight from Gatwick. In the summer months several operators fly into Avignon (45 mins) and Nice, a 3 hour drive. Hire Car companies operate from all four airports. By Road: A7 Autoroute du Soleil – exit Bollene or Orange Sud. By Rail: Nearest station Avignon for Eurostar and TGV.

Things to See and Do: For walkers, cyclists and climbers the mountains of Le Ventoux, Les Dentelles and Les Baronnies provide endless paths and roads to explore, and wonderful panoramic views to experience. For the less energetic there are gentle valley roads and lanes, perched villages, Provencal markets every day of the week, the cote du Rhone wine trail, the Roman ruins and amphitheatres in Vaison-la-Romaine and Orange, the Palais des Papes in Avignon, the brocantes most weekends in Carpentras, river bathing in the Toulourenc and of course the soft sunny climate of this area of Provence means that local produce is bountiful - strawberries from Carpentras, melons from Cavaillon, truffles, cherries, apricots, garlic and olives, and last, but perhaps most importantly, the delicious local rose and red wines of the Ventoux and the prestigious vintages of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas and Beaumes de Venise are waiting to be discovered.

This was our first visit to Provence and the wonderful location Les Vignes made it very special to us. The apartment was everything you promised and more. The owners were very welcoming, the service they gave us made our stay in Provence second to none. The pool area is so calm and the scenery breathtaking. Malaucene is a great place to eat and the people so friendly and helpful. Lots of lovely walks - we will definately be visiting Provence in the future. Les Vignes is defiantely five star.

Thank you for the rental of your beautiful cottage. Right from our time of booking you made it easy for us, and we appreciated the directions, information and the supplies you left, as well as your hospitality and your recommendations of restaurants esp the set lunch for 15 Euros- outstanding. We're still talking about it. What a beautiful place your cottage is - in a beautiful area. We loved our country walks and going up Mount Ventoux as well as driving to nearby towns and attractions. We enjoyed the markets, the boulangeries in the village and the Roman towns we easily travelled to. It was too late in the season to use your stunning pool but others coming earlier would love it. The views are tremendous. We loved the little kitchen and the garden and we had everything we needed. Thank you so much.
