About the area:
Vaugines, situated on the Route des Chateaux, is a small typically Provencal village nestling int the Luberon foothills. Its famous Roman church and other parts of the village featured in the films 'Jean de Florette' and 'Manon des Sources' . A cooling, moss-covered fountain sits in the tiny village square surrounded by a cafe, restaurant, grocery store and the Town Hall. A bouledrome is located next to the Roman church. The nearby villages of Cucuron (2.5km) and Lourmarin (5km) offer great cafes, restaurants and shops plus colourful weekly markets. The village is surrounded by fields and woods and there are several well marked hiking trails around the area. Swimming is possible at a nearby camp site or in natural pools a few kilometres away. Canoeing is available on the Durance river.

The Luberon region is blessed with a pleasant Mediterranean climate. The pretty Provencal villages in this unique rural area offer visitors an infinite variety of colourful and fragrant landscapes which have inspired generations of artists, writers and film-makers. There are many interesting places to visit nearby, such as the ancient spa town of Aix-en-Provence - a city rich in ancient monuments, galleries and museums, as well as great shops and markets and the famous fountains and street cafes along the Cour Mirabeau. Other interesting places to visit within a short drive include Apt, Avignon, Les Baux de Provence, the Camargue, Gordes, the Gorges of the Verdon River, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Marseilles, Roussillon, the Sainte Victoire mountain, and the Mediterranean coastal resorts. Many villages have weekly local produce markets and Isle sur la Sorgue is famous for its weekend antique markets. Many villages also put on excellent local fairs and cultural events in the summer.
