The Garden and Heated Pool:
The one and a half acres of garden are cultivated with flowering shrubs, beds of lavender, as well as groves of olive and Cypress trees. Underfoot there are numerous wild flowers and herbs. There is a large (10mx6m) heated pool with stone steps at the shallow end (1.2 meters deep). The pool heating is very effective and even out of season maintains a comfortable temperature. The pool is available all year and is kept beautifully clean by a local pool specialist and our very effective 'robot'. We have an AQUASENSOR immersion alarm that conforms to the new French Government regulations. The pool is discreetly fenced by a wooden slatted fence with two gates set well back from the pool, running behind olive trees and shrubs. We have 6 sun beds with cushions. Two teak garden tables with ten teak chairs and sunshades as well as a barbecue. There is a frame with three swings: a 'pirate boat', rings and a conventional swing. There is a set of boules, footballs & frisby.
Gordes - only 5 min drive away :
Standing in a spectacular position overlooking the plateau of Vaucluse, Gordes is the perfect Provencal village, with tiers of mellow stone houses rising from the plain. At the summit are a Renaissance château and a church. The views from its terraced streets of the valley and the distant Luberon are superb. Steep narrow streets and alleys paved with rough stones thread their way between many fine houses from the sixteenth and seventeenth century.
The charming village square has a good selection of open-air cafes. There are two bakeries, a supermarket and a vegetable shop as well as craft and pottery shops. Every Tuesday there is a delightful street market with local produce, wine, olives, fabrics, etc.. There is a wide selection of restaurants in and around Gordes.
Gordes has a world wide reputation as one of the most beautiful villages of France and Peter Mayle's book 'A Year in Provence', set in the area, has certainly helped to reinforce this.
Children welcome:
We have three children (9, 7 & 2) and have tried to make the house welcoming for children of all ages. We have plenty of board games - Monopoly (junior & senior), Scrabble, Cluedo, Chess, etc.. Lots of puzzles and children's books. A small electric keyboard as well as Sky television with all its children's programmes.
The garden is great fun for children with lots of room to run around, explore and hide. The Borie makes a great playhouse - our children love putting on shows in there as it has a natural platform. There is a frame with three swings: a pirate 'boat', rings and a conventional swing.
