St Rémy-de-Provence is the gateway to the Alpilles and an ideal base from which to explore the area whatever your interests. It evokes the very essence of Provence with boulevards shaded by plane trees, fountains splashing in the many hidden squares inside the old town and the weekly market which spreads down the little streets. Watch the world go by from a pavement café or enjoy Provençal cuisine at one of the many restaurants to be found in St Rémy.
The Roman Antiquities at Glanum lie just to the south of the town, whilst Arles is 25 k and Nimes 40k. The Pont du Gard, the 2000 year old aqueduct which was built to supply Nimes with spring water is 35k. The Camargue and its vast nature reserve abounds in wildlife, including white horses, black cattle, flamingos and egrets.
