This recently converted barn, set in 4 acres of land, is situated in rolling countryside and woodland. With a number of marked footpaths within the area, it is an ideal place to wander and observe the local wildlife. Or, for those who like to relax and watch the wildlife, the balcony is an ideal place to do this. From here deer and even wild boar have been seen, animals that would usually hide, go about their own business giving you your own wildlife show. The barn is close to the village of Tremolat, a pretty Perigourdin village, situated alongside the river Dordogne. Delightful beauty spots abound in the locality, such as the Cingle de Tremolat, medieval towns and villages, castles and prehistoric sites. There are French markets, held at different locations 7 days a week a short drive away. For the wine connoisseur there are the wines – the sweet Monbazillacs of Bergerac to the wonderful clarets of Bordeaux!

Nearest Airport: Bergerac at 26 Kilometres
Nearest Train: Tremolat at 4 Kilometres
Car: necessary
The nearby village of Tremolat has an 11th century church, water-sports centre, crazy golf, tennis courts, in addition to village shops, a pizzeria, a bistro, a restaurant, plus a café-bar/tabac. Some of the trains linking Bordeaux with Sarlat stop at the village station. Three busy and colourful market towns: Lalinde, Le Bugue and Le Buisson, are 15-20 minutes’ drive away all have supermarkets and a good variety of restaurants and bars. Further afield, but all within an hours drive are the main tourist towns: Beynac, Domme, Les Eyzies, Roque Gageac and Sarlat plus the commercial towns of Bergerac and Perigueux.

Notes: Downstairs there is an entrance hall with stairs leading to the first floor and doors leading to the TV room and utility room, from this room is a second toilet and shower. The main rooms are elevated, offering extensive views over the surrounding countryside. The spacious open plan beamed living area is light and airy with two French windows leading to a balcony for outside dining. The house stands in a large plot. There is a 10m x 5m in ground swimming pool for you to enjoy, sun loungers are provided to you can relax by the pool. For your benefit there is a solar heated shower next to the pool. The pool house has changing room facility, exercise bike and rowing machine, also a fridge, so you can cool your drinks ready for when you relax. Areas are provided enabling you to enjoy outdoor games; including an outdoor chess set, badminton area and a table tennis table. Below the balcony there is a terrace with patio furniture and a family sized barbecue. There is ample parking.

Excellent Holiday- can´t fault the barn at all!

We had a wonderful holiday staying in the converted barn. Even though the weather was a bit wet for 2 days it did not spoil a peaceful holiday, or swimming in the lovely pool. Even having a nap in the summer house by the pool was nice!
The barn is very comfortable and clean and there is plenty of room to ´spread out´. The beds were very comfortable to sleep in.
The meadows on either side of the house were full of beautiful wild flowers- we were very lucky too to see, and hear, while we were sitting on the veranda, a mother deer calling for her youngster and the youngster coming out of the bamboo to catch up with the mother. Naturally the camera was not at hand.
We were able to buy lovely fresh eggs from the barn owners hens! (The owner took the cash not the hens!) There are lots of woods to walk through close to the house and we picked some wild mushrooms, we are still alive so they must have been ok.
Driving around the area of Cales there are plenty of picturesque villages to stop and photograph! A bit further afield is the memorial village of Oradour sur Glane and a bit further on from there well worth the drive is Confolens (beware it shuts its shops on Mondays- we didn´t know!!)
Monpazier a short drive from Cales is worth a visit too, there are lovely craft shops there and lots of restaurants (although we only had a coffee there)
Lalinde and Bergerac are both beautiful towns with excellent restaurants.
There is canooing close to the property on the Dordogne (too high for me to try this year).
We are already looking forward to re-booking the barn hopefully in the late autumn 2008 or early spring 2009.
