Photos and Description of this Issigeac holiday barn Le Maladary- 5 Kms from a medieval town. Sleeps 6 + baby. Lake and private pool.

This is one of 4 ancient properties in a little hamlet. It is peaceful and rural and yet close to the medieval village of Issigeac with its popular Sunday market. The barn has been immaculately converted (in 2005) by the owners who live in the Perigourdine house next door. The spacious open plan living area has mellow exposed stone walls and tiled floors. There is comfortable seating, a dining table and a well equipped kitchen. The master bedroom is downstairs with a separate shower room and a toilet. There is a cot stored in the laundry room. Upstairs, the second double bedroom and the twin room have exposed beams and share a shower room with toilet. The property is very well kept and fresh. Outside there is a private pool surrounded by a terrace; There are lawns, a lake and poplar trees. The outdoor furniture can be used on the terrace, on the little beach by the lake, or in a covered games room. There are lovely views over the arable fields and woods and the bird life is abundant.

We are ideally placed for visiting the beautiful towns of Bergerac, Sarlat, Lalinde, La Roque Gageac and Beynac (along the Dordogne river), the prehistoric caves at Eyzies, and the historic bastide towns to the south and east. The region is known as Purple Perigord because of the vineyards and the famous Monbazillac chateau is close by. The wine centre of St. Emilion is a wonderful town to visit and is the gateway to all the wine country to the west. Bordeaux and the seaside at Arcachon can be visited on a day trip. The area is renowned for good local produce which includes foie gras, duck confit, asparagus and cepes. The fruit and vegetable markets are a treat. The restored stone walls are lovely and mellow and there are exposed beams. There are electric wall heaters throughout the house. All the outside walls and the roof are also of stone and the barn is set in beautiful land. The pool and terrace and the large games room are all newly renovated. The pool is 12m by 5m with a deep end of 1.6m and generous steps into the shallow end of 1.2m. It is fitted with an alarm. 60m away is a man made lake with a beach, a pontoon, a boat and inflatables. The enormous games room has a barbeque, a ping pong table, bar football and a basket ball net. In the grounds there are swings and three bicycles are available. With all these facilities and the generous amount of land, children have a wonderful time. You may bring one small well behaved dog by prior arrangement with the owner.

Our Wonderful Holiday

Review Submitted: September 20, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
I hesitate to recommend this gite for two reasons, the first because different people have different needs and expectations and the second frankly because I personally don’t want people to find out about this excellent place. For that is how we found it. We spent two marvelous weeks doing nothing, except running between the lake and the swimming pool, maybe kicking a ball or two on the way! The ample garden flanked on two sides by sun flower fields, on the third by the two other houses in the hamlet and finally a look to the fourth side reveals farm land, you are right next door to a working farm. It is true that the lady of the gite is particular about how the property is presented but she could not have done more to make us feel welcome. We wanted a location that was in the middle of nowhere with a pool and that would be suitable for three small, extremely lively children and thats exactly what we got. If you were of a mind to visit the area, there is much to offer, we weren’t and were content with the Sunday market in the nearby medieval village of Issigeac and the local Monbazilliac Cave. As I said in the opening different people want different things from their holiday, should you be needing a restful, quite and wonderful location which is great for the children then sadly but out of respect for our lovely hosts, I have to recommend La Maladrai

A quiet holiday ideal for the family.

A Jane London
Review Submitted: May 4, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
The holiday was in great setting in and an ideal location for a restful time. This propery exceeded our expectations. When we arrived we were made welcome by the owner she showed us round and settled us in. Her and her husband were helpful and answered all our questions with the help of an english speaking neighbour. The barn accomodation was clean and well resourced for the holiday. The grounds were extensive and were well maintained. There is a new swimming pool near to the property and a lake with a dinghy style boat for the children to play in. On the large grounds there was a swing set up and an inside games area which was ideal for the children when they had tired of the pool. The children made the most of all the facilities and really enjoyed themselves. You need a car to get to the property but it is quite central to get to shops. It has an easy route to Bergerac and is quite central for other areas. We went out and the surrounding countryside, rivers and different markets were fabulous. Hugette (owner) and Felicity (neighbour) were welcoming and helpful. We had a lovely holiday and it gave us time as a family to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the french countryside. As we had such a great time last year I am bringing my mum and dad back this year as I think it is ideal for all age groups. A truely relaxing experience.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for coming back twice more. We love seeing your children so happy here.

This is a nice property, well equipped with lovely outside area. You have to drive to shops etc. There is not enough seating for 6 people in the lounge area however. Owners very friendly, but we had a problem on the last day when a large chunk of our breakages deposit was kept back for cleaning the property despite the fact that we had left the property in a very tidy condition as we were asked. The property details here have been changed to make renters aware of this now, this was not so when we booked. Please be aware that the owner is extremely fussy about this detail. We had a very nice week here, but this problem on the last day meant that we left under a cloud unneccesarily.
Owner's Response: The property was left in a tidy condition but had not been cleaned. The original amount deducted for cleaning and damage was a small sum. In addition, because we did listen to the renters’ comments about the clarity of the cleaning charge, we did provide recompense. The cleaning fee was waived soon after the holiday. The net sum that they paid was for damages and it was less than 10% of the deposit.

Fabulous Holidays

Zweiblum Kirchheim, Germany
Review Submitted: September 19, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
After a lot of holiday resorts booked by "FeWo/home-away" we found with this rural peaceful property "the place"!

The complete estate (inside and outside) is fully equipped with a lot of love for the detail. The accomodation was clean and well resourced for the holiday. The grounds were extensive and were well maintained. Also our expectations were exceeded.

From the beginning we felt the spirit of warm welcome without the slightliest impression of obtrusion. The owners Huguette and Jean-Claude and also the friendly neighbours, Felicity and John were helpful not only with suggestions for day-trips, going-out-locations and places-to-see.

We definitely have to say that nobody there is fussy! We did not have any problems at all, neither with the deposit nor with cleaning (as written above, it was perfectly clean when we came and final cleaning was done by a cleaning-lady when we left).

At least, we spent a wonderful time with our 84-year old mom and our Greyhound, and all of us are looking forward to return. The time was great and very relaxing and we certainly come back again.
