Renovated and furnished in a traditional style, this private, spacious comfortable farmhouse is ideal for an extended family or two families holidaying together. Private entrance & parking. Own garden area, lawn games. Furnished patio with BBQ, cushioned sun loungers, fenced sparkling pool (10 x 5m) with floaties! Large airy rooms and plenty of outdoor space, you don't need to travel as there is lots to do on site & in the local area within walking distance. We have a boules court, badminton, volleyball, footy area, Field Archery (tuition & practise, supervised) and four adult/4 children bicycles (child seat & helmets available). Bed linen and bath and hand towels provided. Pool towels available for nominal fee. A welcome pack of beer, wine, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, butter & preserve will be waiting for you. There is a local shop & supermarkets only 5 & 9kms.

A detached, renovated barn, La Grange has a private entrance and parking. Entering through the front door into a fully tiled ground floor, the hallway has a separate downstairs toilet. There is a fully fitted kitchen with farmhouse table to seat 10, plus highchair. Two steps down to the spacious lounge with french doors opening onto the terrace. From the hallway stairs lead up to a galleried landing off which there are 3 twin rooms, 1 double room and 1 queen room. There is a separate bathroom with toilet and separate shower room. All bedrooms are carpeted and fully furnished. Off the landing is also a furnished veranda overlooking lakes & woodland - the preferred place for pre-dinner and late night drinks! From the lounge the french doors lead onto the paved terrace with large wooden bench and sunshade. This goes around to your private, furnished patio with BBQ and fully fenced pool. Sunloungers and pool floaties provided. There is also a private lawned area, clothes line.

On the edge of a hamlet, 1km from the village of St Estèphe and 1.5km from Le Grand Etang (Lake). Quiet, but not isolated, the beautiful surrounding countryside has lots of wildflowers, a great variety of birds and wildlife. Relax around your own private pool or explore nearby caves, châteaux and markets. Miles of bridle paths to explore but only a few minutes from town. This area is called the 'Lake District' of the Dordogne and many have beaches for swimming. 1.5km from the recreational lake of St Estèphe with it's own beach, boardwalks, picnic areas, tennis court, fenced childrens activity areas. All year round restaurant and in July & August cafés, lifeguard, free canoes/kayaks. Horseriding 1.5kms. Karting & quad bikes 9kms.

Local Area: The lake at St Estephe, 1.5km, has a moored diving platform and defined swimming area. In high season there is a life guard and free canoes & kayaks. Boardwalks, picnic areas, cafés and a bar are at the lakeside. Free tennis court and boules area. Local horse riding and fishing can be booked. There are good restaurants within a few kilometers. St Estèphe has a mini-market, post office, bakery and large general store. The town of Piégut, 5km, has all main facilities and a huge Wednesday morning market. Nontron, 9km, has a variety of large supermarkets, all main facilities and a Saturday morning market. Renowned knife factory - open to the public. The winery of St Soronin is an easy 25min drive - lovely for tasting before you buy. Brantôme, the 'Venice of the Dordogne', 30mins, restaurants, château, caves, canoeing, boat rides and a large Friday morning market. There are many local fêtes and brocantes, at weekends, during spring & summer.

We were very impressed with La Petite Maison. The property was far more spacious than we had expected. The owners provided excellent service, made us feel very welcome and we couldn't fault the cleanliness. A trip to nearby Brantome (the "Venice of France") is well worthwhile and the lake at St Estephe is a great place for kids.

we have stayed at La Grange twice. once on our own and once with our 3 Viszlas. The accommodation was clean,comfortable,well maintained.The 'welcome pack 'was a nice touch. Our hosts were most helpful,recommending where to go and where to eat. leaflets in the house were useful.We took advantage of Doreen's wonderful catering services.Doreen and Tony helped with the dogs,'sittng'them so we could go out without them and walking with us and their dogs.La Grange is in a beautiful setting,quite and picturesque.The walk to the local bakery could have been longer to burn off calories consumed eating delicious bread and pastries! We would recommend La Grange for a family idyllic family holiday.

La Petite Maison at Les Casaniers

It's a not always an easy decision, trying to choose holiday accommodation which will be suitable for all the family (particularly with two teenage boys), but in respect of Les Casaniers, we certainly got it right, particularly with my interest in archery.

On our arrival we received a warm greeting from Doreen and Tony, and not to forget the dogs, Viz and Polo. The accommodation was was splendid, extremely clean and well-furnished, and providing more than adequate space for all four of us. We particularly appreciated the large communal living room downstairs which provided more than enough space for us and our two very tall teenage boys (and they take up a lot of room!).

Externally the lovely private BBQ area opened out into a shared paddock. Having access to our own private pool within the paddock was great. We spent may a happy hour relaxing with a book by the pool, or playing piggy in the middle in the pool with the lads, surround by lovely tree-lined views.

With our shared interest in archery, Tony was keen to introduce us to his local archery friends. If you have the time, be sure to accompany Tony to his club to be introduced the sport of field archery - you never know, you might just love it! The highlight of the holiday was when Tony organized a club shoot at his paddock, everyone welcome, followed by a typically french evening eating Doreen's excellent homemade cuisine and drinking excellent wine, whilst having the opportunity to meet some of Tony and Doreen's friend from the local area.

If you get the opportunity, ask Tony and Doreen to book you a table at one of the fine local restaurants, well priced and offering some of the best French cuisine you're ever likely to taste, all produced locally.

Local amenities include the nearby lake, offering activites such as boat hire and boules. Every Monday afternoon the local boules players meet to lock horns. Doreen was kind enough to enter the competition with our eldest son - an experience I'm sure he will remeber for a long time.

There are many lovely villages and towns within reasonable distance with local supermarkets within a short drive.

In summary, we had a great holiday in lovely surroundings, the accommodation was excellent (certainly the best gite we've stayed in), Doreen and Tony make excellent hosts introducing us to their friends, and it's certainly on our list of places to re-visit.

Our holiday at La Grange was the best in France so far,and we have been coming for years!!! It was well aquiped and well-maintained.The owners are very helpfull with there knowledge of the local attractions but never intrusive.La Grange is handerly placed for local supermarkets,restaurants and the beach,it was so good we are coming back this year!!
