Sarlat::
Sarlat the capital of Perigord Noir occupies top spot in terms of tourists and culture in this region. Over a million visitors discover or rediscover the medieval town every year and it deserves plenty of time to explore. The 16th, 17th and 18th Century architectural treasures are here for your admiration and discovery. Sarlat is famous for art exhibitions, drama, and music and film festivals in season. Visit the markets held on Saturdays and Wednesdays set up between the honey coloured stone buildings. There is a plentiful choice of restaurants in the town where the cuisine is well renowned and based on fresh local produce, one of the many excellent restaurants has just proudly received its first Michelin star.
A good selection of regional wines are readily available and one of the regions neighbour is the world renowned Bordeaux wines.
Three of the most beautiful villages of France in Perigord Noir are just 15km from the house.
Dordogne:
It's simple to enjoy a fulfilling holiday here. Even the busiest attractions have the same rural charm that has drawn people to them for centuries. The Dordogne River itself provides a rich and undulating playground. Hop into a canoe and you will discover a lost world of caves, echoing inlets and fishing coves. Look up and you will see villages such as La Roque gageac clinging to limestone cliffs. An attraction of the region is the many discoveries of the presence of prehistoric man. Many of the finds have been in the Vezere valley around Les Eyzies (25km) and the famous cave of Lascaux is closeby. There are many fortified bastide towns such as Domme nearby. The region is renowned for its truffles, foie gras and fine cuisine. When the caves and chateaux hold no more secrets for visitors there will still be a thousand things for them to discover.

Activities:
There are many pastimes to help make your holiday enjoyable. There are numerous golf courses in the area. There is a tennis court just five minutes from the house. The old railways in the area have been converted into cycle tracks, they meander through some of the most beautiful countryside in the Dordogne.
You can hire quad bikes and go off roading, or there is go karting tracks.
There are some beautiful spots to go fishing or painting and walking.
There are numerous chateaux, castles and museums to visit, the national museum of prehistory is just 15 minutes away.
If food and wine is your pleasure there are many restaurants in Sarlat to choose from. You are not far from many of the wine producing areas where you can go wine tasting. There is even a visit to the old watermill where you can watch the walnuts being ground and pressed into oil.
There is a distillery just 5 minutes from the house where you can sample fruit liquers, apperitifs and eau de vie, (the water of life)
