A Peaceful House with a View

The most staggering attraction about this property was the unbelievable views across the Dordogne to the Chateau of Fenelon on the other side. That memory has sustained us through some dark winter days.
The property itself was exactly as described - well-appointed and very clean. It was prettily decorated - it gave the impression of a well-loved house. There were only two of us and it perfectly suited our needs. Had there been two extra adults then it would have been a little cramped but a family of four would have found it fine. The garden was a haven of peace full of the smell of lavender. We did not use the pool as it was only small and did not allow room for serious swimming - but a great facility for children.
The pre-visit information from the owners was excellent. We also had one visit from them where they were extremely helpful. I would also advise anyone staying at the cottage to read the information supplied by the owners - we found some exellent places to eat through their recommendations. In fact, one of the best night outs we have had in France was thanks to them.
The attractions of the area are outstanding- the Dordogne has so much to offer everyone from culture to sport and, of course, delicious food. The village of Calviac itself was in easy walking distance although, disappointingly, it did not have any shops or restaurants but we enjoyed their own local fete and the fireworks which could be seen from the house.
We have decided to return to the same property next year - something we rarely do because it ticked so many of the boxes for us. A delightful place to unwind.
Owner's Response: It gives us pleasure to know that so many of our guests over the years get so much enjoyment from our cottage. Living close by we are able to give it the comfort of a second home, rather than just a holiday let.
In the nine years we have rented out our cottage we have had a mixture of single couples, two couples, and families, all of whom have enjoyed the facilities happily, without finding space a problem as we see from the numerous kind comments left by our guests..
It is true to say that our pool is not for the serious swimmer. Being 5 metres circular it is, however, ideal for lazing around in, or to cool down on a hot day.
It was a disappointment to us when the only village bar/restaurant/shop closed down two years ago when the owner died; unfortunately one of the down sides of the reality of french rural life. The nearest village with butcher/baker/grocery etc is no more than a five minute drive away.
