Peaceful romantic cottage, private pool & garden, Sep availability
Traditional stone farmhouse, restored with loving care, set in a secluded private garden with its own pool and shady veranda, the only distraction an occasional passing tractor. Located in a quiet hamlet, this personable and friendly house is not a soulless letting property, but a warm place to spend your holiday. It is furnished with a mixture of traditional farmhouse and modern furniture. It is self-catering and sleeps 4-5. From the bedroom window you can watch the cows grazing in the valley. From the shuttered bathroom you can walk out under the vine straight into the garden. At night, you can see the Milky Way and spot falling stars (ideally accompanied by a glass of cognac). There is no TV and bad mobile reception, so you can hide from the real world. The local shops and market are a 10 minute drive away and the local region is busy with food markets, restaurants and festivals. (More pictures available on request)

The cottage nestles in a sleepy hamlet close to the market town of Riberac (a 10-minute drive away). Throughout the summer, the town stages many concerts in its churches and main square, from jazz or classical to more traditional French chanson. There are also many village fetes, usually with fantastic firework displays. The Perigord region is famed for its fine foods and beautiful rolling countryside. The area is dominated by farms and woodland, interspersed with bustling market towns and quiet villages. Romanesque churches dot the landscape and several picturesque towns – such as Brantome and Perigueux – are a 30 minute drive away. To the east, you will find the vineyards of St. Emilion and Pomerol, and Bordeaux itself makes for a pleasant day trip.

| Notes: | As the house is also my home for several periods of the year, it contains a number of personal items, books, pictures etc. I feel that this gives the place a more lived-in atmosphere, whilst leaving space for you to make it your own for your holiday. The place is filled with history and character and has certain quirks (light switches placed in odd corners, for example) but also has a warmth to it often lacking in rental properties. |
Peaceful holiday location
The house is a perfect place to get away from it all - no email, bad mobile reception, no TV. You can easily spend a week in the garden and the pool, popping out only for the odd meal at one of the great local restaurants. However, if you want a base from which to explore the area, with its chateaux, markets and amazing landscape, then this house is also perfectly suited to your needs.
