Our pretty 3 bedroom detached cottage near to Verteillac has been recently restored to retain its traditional french charm whilst being complemented by the latest contemporary fixtures & fittings. From the terrace enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding countryside which together with the large private pool ensures that you can unwind & relax from the moment you arrive. Appreciate the pleasures of outdoor dining on the terrace with fresh local produce and watch the sunset across the valley. The cottage offers a convenient base to explore picturesque villages and the local countryside of the Dordogne. Take a picnic along the river or sample one of the many great restaurants. For the more sporty - cycling, swimming, canoeing, tennis and horse riding are nearby. Alternatively just take advantage of the peace and tranquility of life at 'Les Volets Verts'.

The cottage is situated in the heart of a small hamlet and within walking distance of the local village providing 'la boulangerie' and a typically French bar. A short 7 minutes drive away is the beautiful village of Verteillac which offers 2 bars, a restaurant, newsagents, post office, bank with cash machine, garage, bakers, butchers and a general store selling everything from fresh tomatoes to lawnmowers (even open on Sunday mornings). Alternatively, 12 km away is the town of Riberac which is famous for its lively, unmissable Friday morning market & has a wide selection of cafe/bars & restaurants together with 2 large supermarkets.

Notes: French doors open from the living room onto the main terrace where there is a large BBQ with an outdoor table (seats 8) under the cool of a parasol. Here you can cook the fresh delicacies you have purchased at a local market. This is complimented in the kitchen by an American fridge freezer & a range cooker with 5 rings & a huge oven - but don't worry about the washing up as we have a dishwasher. If it gets too hot there is a slate bed pool table situated outside on its own terrace under the shade of the trees. We also have a selection of indoor & outdoor games (including boules!), flat screen tv with freeview SKY, DVDs and numerous books available for your use during your stay. Our 12 m x 5 m swimming pool with steps leading into it is of equal depth throughout so that you can play games easily, swim lengths or relax and cool down whilst seated on the steps. There is a laundry room with a washing machine, tumble dryer, iron & ironing board.

Outdoor Activities: Renamon (approx. 12kms) is situated on the River Dronne. Here you can hire canoes, relax on the small beach and there is a cafe/bar for your refreshments. In the evenings there is often live music. Grand etang de la Jemaye (approx. 22 kms) is a great lake for swimming (overseen by lifeguards) with a sandy beach. Enjoy your own lunch in the picnic area or treat yourself at the cafe. Other activities close to the cottage include horse riding, bicycles for hire, tennis, fishing & there is even a couple of 9 hole golf courses which are pay as you play.

Cultural visits: Riberac - famed for its Friday morning market selling local produce. Wander through the huge variety of stalls & then relax in one of the many cafe/bars & soak up the atmosphere. Grotte de Villars - the largest underground network in the Perigord, admire the frozen rivers, stalactites & stalagmites. Guided tours are provided with a sound & light show and it also offers a picnic area & a cafe. Bourdeilles - visit the medieval chateau in this ancient attractive village. The chateau is a 13th century fortress and a Renaissance residence. Aubeterre sur Dronne - another pretty village with wonderful views of the Dordogne countryside with the monolithic Eglise St Jean - carved out of the white chalky cliff. Brantome - often described as the 'Venice of Perigord' as it is surrounded on all sides by the river Dronne. Outside Brantome is the Renaissance Chateau de Puyguilhem decorated inside with tapestries. Many other 'things to do' are detailed in our information pack.

Dining Out: We have listed in the 'Welcome Handbook' our 10 favourite restaurants from a wide choice & we look forward to you adding to the list with your comments. Most restaurants offer a fixed price menu for 2, 3, 4 or even 5 courses providing great value for money especially at lunchtime which is considered to be the most important meal of the day. Sample the regional delights of south west France - 'foie gras', 'confit' & goats cheese. More locally, walnuts are produced in abundance & are used in everything from salads to desserts.

Beautiful stay at Les Volets Verts

We have just returned from the most perfect stay in this lovely house. We enjoyed fabulous weather and the pool was a welcome sanctuary from the heat. The house is well equipped with some lovely personal touches, this feels like a home, not just a holiday let. The location is good, set in peaceful countryside, a 10 minute drive to civilisation.
A visit to nearby Brantome is recomended for it's charm, as is Sarlat a little further afield, and a must is Bordeaux a hour and a half away.
The food and wine of this region is wonderful and we ave all returned home a little rounder than we left.
Thank you to the owners for providing a lovely base from which to explore the gorgeous Dordogne.

A perfect paradise

We loved this holiday so much we really didn't want to come home(and that's saying something as we are normally very hard to please!). The cottage was just adorable, very clean, modern and provided everything we needed for the week. The views at the rear of the property are simply stunning and we spent nearly every evening out on the terrace watching the sunset in our peaceful, idyllic surroundings. The whole atmosphere in this place makes you feel so relaxed it was almost surreal. The pool looked fabulous, very big, clean and gets the sun all day (we didnt go in it as think it was probably too early on in the season) The guest book provided by the hosts came in very handy and we visited a couple of the recommended restaurants and went on the velobikes (great fun and something different to your usual bike ride!). A 'must do' is eating at the restaurant at La Tour Blanche, you get a set menu of about 5 courses and are eating with all the locals whilst they are on their lunch break, its really good value for money, the food is delicious and you get to experience a completely different way of dining out. If you fancy a stroll in the evening you can walk from the cottage along lots of different scenic paths anything from 20 mins to 1 hour. I really cant think of anything negative to say about this place, we have travelled to many different places in the world and have always found fault with something or other, however in terms of providing a lovely, relaxing, good value for money break away, this ticked all of the boxes. I have already reccommended this cottage to family and friends.

This is by far the best holiday house we have stayed in in France. The house is fitted out to an extremely high standard and every need has been thought of, even including a chest full of games. The house is away from the main tourist areas of the Dordogne and all the better for it. We were able to drive to all the main sites,(Brantome, Lascaux, Rocamadour etc) within a couple of hours at most. The pool is brilliant and big enough to swim proper lengths. We loved playing pool on the full size table and the boules were well used. The best thing of all was the stunning view from the terrace. We watched the wild deer in the mornings and evenings and sat out star gazing at night. Toatally wonderful experience.
