Le Puy Du Rey is a stone-built farmhouse / gite situated in a rural but not isolated position bordering the Double Forest. Dating from the 18th century it retains many period features incl. beams & tomettes. The house is situated in approx three acres of enclosed gardens featuring flowering shrubs, fruit and nut trees. The pool, barbecue (originally farm's bread oven) & seating areas are all conveniently located near to the house. The house is very spacious (approx 200 m2 floor area) & features a charming lounge centred around a large wood burning stone fireplace. The lounge has a TV, DVD player & Hi-Fi. The kitchen is well equipped with a large table for informal dining, more formal dining is offered in the dining area off the lounge. The bathroom features a large corner bath with shower & basin. The separate shower room has a basin & there are 2 separate wcs. All bedrooms feature oak floors & large shuttered windows with garden view. The perfect base for a relaxing holiday.

The house borders the ancient Double forest which also contains (5-10mins drive) the national park at La Jemaye featuring a large sandy beach-lake with restaurant, cafes, childrens play area etc. The nearest town is Riberac (5-10 mins) with restaurants, cafes, banks, supermarkets, garages, pharmacy and a lively Friday market. The Dordogne is a beautiful and peaceful area of undulating farmland criss-crossed by wide, slow rivers and spectacular steep limestone valleys, riddled with caves, many containing world-famous prehistoric paintings. The region is dotted with small towns and villages, all typically French in character. This area has been inhabited since prehistoric times and there is a wealth of sites and monuments to visit e.g. Aubeterre (15mins). You can just relax and spend the day swimming in the many lakes and rivers, cycling through the quiet lanes or walking the marked footpaths. The whole region is dotted with chateaux and vineyards, many of which are open to visitors.
