Further details for this holiday farmhouse rental in St Paul Lizonne, France

CLIMATE IN SOUTH WEST FRANCE: In this corner of France we are generally regarded as enjoying a 'Micro Climate'; tucked well into the Bay of Biscay and generally out of the way of weather fronts coming up from the Atlantic. They say we have the second highest levels of sunshine in France and certainly you'll find the light is always clear and fresh. Spring comes early and temperatures can be in the 20's from March onwards: the skies are a piercing blue while the migrating birds pass overhead. Summer sees temperatures peaking on occasions up to 40 degrees, when, thankfully, the pool is there to keep you cool! Autumn is another wonderful time of the year in this Perigord region when colours of the autumn trees and hedgerows are exceptionally beautiful and the days are warm but the nights take on a chilly air. Even winter brings a quiet and sometimes cold air, misty days where the scent of burning oak hangs over the valleys until the sun burns through the winter skies and Spring is just around the corner once again.

LOCAL VILLAGES: Le Pible is situated just 3km from Saint Severin, where you will find all the usual village shops, butchers and bakers, as well as grocers, bank, chemist, newsagents, Post Office, doctors etc - not forgetting 3 bars/cafés and small family hotel with restaurant. There is a nearly established medical center within the village containing a doctor, dentist, nurse and physiotherapist - so any little problems that might arise during your holiday can be very easily dealt with locally. This beautiful vacation villa rental is ideally situated in a historic and picturesque part of rural south west France - do come and visit!

THE ANGOULEME CLASSIC CAR RALLY: The second weekend in September plays host to a fabulous classic car rally in Angouleme called the 'Circuits des Remparts' (just like the Monaco Grand Prix some 50 years ago!) - motor enthusiasts will thoroughly enjoy watching the racing of, amongst others, the old Bugattis and the smell of burning 'Castrol R', whilst having a good scout around the pits! Invariably the weather is hot, yet the plane trees which line the streets shade the spectator stands. The noise of the tuned engines falls silent at midday for lunch (of course!) in one of the numerous pretty squares and streets, where competitors and spectators alike enjoy delights of the region. Flat out racing continues at 2pm throughout the afternoon: chasing cars wind and spin through the tiny streets, fighting for their positions. At the end of a great day, enjoy relaxing in front of the fire in the farmhouse, with an excellent bottle of claret and a host of happy memories!

Other Activities: Canoeing, Golf, Riding, wine caves, rare wild flowers, migration of birds.

This is an outstanding holiday rental property. Beautifully decorated, incredibly rural and great for kids. The owners live in the same hamlet and provide you with the warmest of welcomes yet the privacy family holidays need.

There are a variety of local restaurants - and Le Tourbieres which is sitauated in the middle of a nature reserve with beavers.

If you crave peace and quiet but a stunning house, Le Pible provides this.

Highly Recommended

A truly wonderful property in a peaceful location. The attention to detail is second to none with modern, comfortable furniture and much thought given to the needs of the holiday maker. I have to say that our experience at Le Pible was faultless, home from home. It is a quiet location and a car is essential to reach local shops and restaurants but this did not bother us at all, it added to the de-stressing of vacation. I cannot imagine anyone not enjoying property.
Owner's Response: We're most grateful to you for taking the time to write your review and delighted that your holiday at Le Pible was everything and more, that you expected and hoped it would be. Choosing something as important as a family holiday from the internet, as we all know, can sometimes end in disappointment, so pleasing we find when a great many guests comment that Le Pible is even lovelier than we have been able to convey on the website! Our appreciative thanks to you all for submitting such favourable and constructive reviews of recent holidays enjoyed at Le Pible.

Tranquility

Bill & Mal Northamptonshire
Review Submitted: August 19, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We arrived at Le Pible rather frazzled as we'd travelled on the 1st August, the start of the French holidays. Within a short time of arriving Le Pible's charm and peaceful setting started to have a relaxing effect. The house was just as described on the web site, very clean and tidy and spacious.

The terrace which runs across the whole of the back of the house gave amazing views across the open countyrside and had a table, chairs and two sun beds and was a wonderful retreat if the afternoons became too hot by the pool as it had afternoon shade. We spent many an evening watching wonderful sunsets from here while drinking a glass of wine. It was wonderful spot for watching wild life especially the birds of prey.

The swimming pool is easily the best we have had on our many forays into France. My two year old grandson loved it. It was a perfect sun trap, contained as it was inside the walls of the old barn. The wide space around the pool and the sun beds, table, chairs and parasol allowed everyone in our party to enjoy this wonderful amenity.

My son-in-law who loves to cook found the kitchen a wonderful place to cook as it had everything you could ask for.

Our party had six adults and our grandson and the only criticism we would make is there wasn't enough soft seating in the lounge area for six adults.

The surrounding area was very green and verdant and contained many pretty towns and villages and we particularly liked Aubeterre. We made several visits here for lunch in the little square or just to have a coffee and people watch. There is even a shop which makes birthday cakes to order as our grandson had his birthday while we were on holiday. There are several good markets in the area, particularly the one at Riberac which is only 15 minutes away. There are many excellent restaurants to suit all tastes in the area.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Le Pible, We had a wonderful holiday here.

Le Pible, June 2009

Susan CM Preston, Lancashire, UK
Review Submitted: July 15, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
This property lives up to expectation. It really is a stunning farmhouse, really comfortable with a 'dream kitchen' stocked with fresh herbs from the garden! The pool is also fabulous, set amongst its own wallled garden with lounge chairs and dining table. Our 2 year old wouldn't venture in to the pool and we think this was because it only had a ladder and not steps, something we hadn't given any thought to, but others with little ones may need to consider? The setting is also incredible and private, where you can enjoy the garden, barn with table tennis, badmington and boules as well as free run of the surrounding meadows. We enjoyed many an evening on the large terrace overlooking the meadows whilst sipping some local wines.

The area is 'as described' rural and tranquil and a car is essential. We hadn't done this type of holiday before and we did on accassion miss being near to amenities, such as bars, restaurants, shops etc. The area immediately surrounding Le pible, is a little steep and you would therefore need to be reasonably fit to cycle to the nearest village with ameneties - St Severin.

We found the french mealtimes of 12 til 2 and 7-9 quite restrictive, particularly with a small child who goes to bed early evening, so ate in a lot more than anticipated.

There is plenty to do in the area, particularly if you are prepared to do longer drives on some days. We enjoyed canoeing at Aubeterre Sur Donne, which is a pretty town about 15 mins away, as well as day trips to St Emillion, which is gorgeous, and Futuroscope. It is also definately worth a trip to the neighbouring Dordonne, we took a boat trip which was lovely, the river is fantastic, very beautiful and very clean with lots of beaches and great views of chattauxs on the cliffs. For this reason, and to truely make the most of this fabulous property you do need 2 weeks. We probably would not have booked 2 weeks had we been given the choice, and so were really glad that it was for a fortnight.

The owner Jane was incredibly helpful and helped us with organising a few days out, printing things of the internet for us and ringing places up to find out opening times etc.

We would recommend this property to anyone who is looking for an amazing property in rural France.
Owner's Response: It's extremely helpful to others when past guests take the trouble to send in reviews and we do greatly appreciate the time they take to compile. Certainly I think Susan's mention of 1-2 yr olds access into the pool is very valid - the pool (10m x 5m) is accessed by steps down into a good sized shallow end (2m x 5m), which then slopes on down to a 2m depth diving end making it ideal for general family fun! Large terraces around the pool give plenty of room for sun loungers etc and space for children to play.

Montignac Le Coq, like many of the other small villages in the locality sits majestically on the top of one of the many gently rolling hills which feature across this region of France, hence it enjoys beautiful views across this wonderful landscape - whilst at the same time the country tracks and lanes, that provide such enjoyable walks and cycle rides are a pleasure to explore: picturesque views, quaint little farm buildings and generally a little local café in which to sit and relax!

As so many people have mentioned over the years, one week's stay is simply not enough! No soon as you've started to relax, it's virtually time to pack up again, Susan and her family found that the two week stay gave them plenty of time in which to relax, really enjoy the French way of life and make the very best of their holiday - we look forward very much to their return visit one day.

Perfect peaceful vacation

Clifton & Myrtle Atlanta, GA, USA
Review Submitted: June 11, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
How can we find words to express our good fortune in finding Le Pible for our 2-week stay? The house was so inviting with the beautiful flower-filled garden from the moment we drove in. The rooms were warm and comfortable and the decorations beautiful and tasteful, including wonderful oil paintings. The kitchen was fully equipped with even the necessities in the pantry. In the dining room was a beautiful arrangement of roses and hydrangeas from the garden. The terrace with table, chairs, loungers and geranium pots was a great place to relax and contemplate the view over the fields that would romove the "world stress" from anyone. All around are beautiful English gardens with magnificent roses. Best of all are the hosts, Jane and Johnny, who are always there ready to be helpful but never intruding. The pool is really special, being totally private and beautifully landscaped like all the rest of the property. We were lucky to be there when wildflowers were in profusion in the surrounding countryside. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer.
