Dramatic rock faces, sparkling rivers, green valleys, Chateaux, medieval villages, prehistoric caves and brilliant sunlight. The Dordogne, the very heart of the Perigord has been described by some as paradise. As you pass fields of sunflowers and corn and marvel at castles towering at the top of cliffs or visit the many 'Beau Villages' in the surrounding area you begin to understand why. The area surrounding Le banquet is dominated by pre-history, beautiful architecture and gastronomy. The local markets are full to brimming with some of the best produce France has to offer. Whether you wish to visit the local caves with their drawings dating back 20,000 years, picnic by the banks of the Vezere River, taste the excellent wines from Bergerac and surround or canoe, horse ride and perhaps fish, Le Banquet is at the very heart of it all. If you are a food lover, then welcome to gastronomic heaven! Foie Gras, cepes, truffles and excellent restaurants - the region has it all.

One of the Best

Review Submitted: July 5, 2011 Date of Stay: May 2011
We were very pleased that we chose to stay at Le Banquet. The property was ideally situated for touring round the Dordogne and seeing many of the caves. It was also in a good position for getting to supermarkets and other shopping by car. The property was very clean and comfortable. It was well equipped with crockery and cooking utensils etc. and having travelled here from NZ we did not want to have to buy dishwashing tablets and clothes for cleaning, plastic rubbish bags etc and these were all provided. We were travelling without children but I thought this would have been a good place with our children as there was plenty of outdoor space and a games room for wet weather and a good sized swimming pool. Karen and Rob were willing to give us good advice on places to eat, shop and things to do in the area. We stayed in La Fermette and the only thing I would say about this property is that the stairs are steep and I was pleased that I had had a cortisone injection in my knee before we came on holiday. This cottage is probably not suited to anyone with mobility problems. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone else. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday here.
The Font de Gaume caves were within walking distance and were very interesting. We had a very good meal at one of the hotels in the village called Hotel Le Cro Magnon.

The perfect get away, Home from Home

Review Submitted: June 22, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
What a fantastic, peaceful and beautiful location!

The premises were very clean and tidy with fresh towels and bedding, and the added touch of scented oils flowing throughout. The grounds were very tidy with a child safe pool area, swing and climbing frame with slide not to mention the fantastic games room which was a real bonus! Everything you could wish from colouring table to pool to table tennis to table football along with a fantastic selection of children’s small games like skittles and mini golf trying to get our 2 year old out of this room was the challenge. The open space had a lovely spell of Mint and Lavender and the sound of the small stream towards the back of the premises was pure tranquillity.

Karen and Rob always had a smile on their faces when they passed you, yet it seemed as if they were also not there, a great balance of being left to it and having them on site to give some great tips on places to eat and days out.

We had previously visited another giet within the area and I have to be honest and say that this one blew all memories of the other away. Rob had advised us on a Dinosaur park which our 2 year old loved, there was also an aquarium again a fantastic day out, Pony trekking which we visited on two occasions for our 2 year old, who again loved it! Another attraction were the caves, I could go on and on. Where to eat you all want to know? again a short stroll to the village and take your pick, the village is well equipped and if you want to stray further afield, within 10km you could be anywhere, it seems you are very central to a wide choice of small towns and villages.

If you were not sure where to go for your next holiday, visit Les Eyzies de Tayac Sireuil and book in at Le Banquet or try their other site which we have also visited Relaisroches, again immaculate...
We are going back next year!

Rob, Karen keep up the great work, you are both genuine nice people and go that extra mile to make sure any stay is top notch, see you again soon.

Le Banquet

Review Submitted: September 17, 2010 Date of Stay: August 2010
We found it difficult to fault this gite. We haven't stayed anywhere with the owners on site before, but Karen and Rob got the balance right - there when needed, but unobtrusive otherwise.

We loved the garden and the grounds. Being just a few metres from the small river added to the atmosphere - although the noise of the water tumbing over the rocks sounds disconcertingly like rain when you wake up in the morning! The pool is fine too - 12 metres long so enough for the swimmers to get some strokes in each length.

The property was clean when we arrived and very well furnished - if anything, better than the listing.

Les Eyzies is 25 minutes walk away. We liked the village, although the small supermarket is somewhat limited. The nearest decent supermarket is about 15 minutes drive away.

We eat well at several places around and about - Auberge du Pont at Leon-sur-Vezere was a highlight.

We took the opportunity to spend a couple of days in Toulouse - you can pick up the train at Souillac. A good city to visit and made Le Banquet seem even more relaxed when we came back!

Highly recommended - we certainly want to go back.

A week at Le Banquet

Review Submitted: August 31, 2010 Date of Stay: August 2010
After years of camping we decided to invest in a little luxary and 'Le Banquet' owned by Karen & Rob Harrison certainly did not let us down. Our 3 bedroom accomodation 'La Fermette' was absolutely beautiful with every detail of its decor and layout carefully planned. Indeed, at first I thought there was not enough natural light as there are not that many windows, however, this ensured that it stayed cool inside which was often a welcome relief. The patio section which overlooked the stream is a great eating area that compliments the house perfectly.

The grounds are wonderful and are a labour of love for Rob who spends many hours maintaining the abundant plants, shrubs and trees. There is also a large grass area which is perfect for children to run free. Finally, the swimming pool was fantastic as it was big enough for a good swim and the shallow end meant fun with the kids was safe. Despite the region containing many amazing places to visit, an afternoon spent by the pool or on one of the chairs by the stream was just too appealing and we will just have to go back again in order to visit the various other beauty spots!

With regard to places to visit, Les Eyzies de Tayac is a great village. The mind blowing 'Font de Gaume' caves are within walking distance and the fact that they contain 14,000 year old cave paintings really puts our own existance into perspective. The village also has an excellent museum, some very affordable restaurants, its own railway station and good canoe centres for trips along the River Vezere (The 13 km option was probably 20km!)

Finally, Karen and Rob really made us feel welcome. Two of our party went by train and they were very happy to pick them up at the station. They made us feel like we were their only guests when in actual fact they had been busy all summer. The greatest compliment I could give is that I did wonder around the whole property daydreaming on how I would improve it and came to the conclusion that I could not. I have travelled and stayed in many countries throughout the world and so do feel well qualified in saying that Le Banquet is a wonderful place to spend a holiday.
