Situated 12Km N of Bergerac in a tranquil location on the edge of a typical, pretty Dordogne village, this 19th Century farmhouse has recently undergone a total renovation combining modern facilities with striking original features retaining the charm and rustic character of the old building. A good sized very private pool was completed in July 06 in the courtyard. The courtyard is the focus for summer outdoor living and is a totally enclosed spacious area with open outbuildings providing a covered outdoor dining area. A deck leads down from the house and there is plenty of sunny patio space around the pool. The large garden has walnuts, cherries, peaches & plums - help yourself! St Julien is adjacent to Bergerac's quality Pecharment wine region and within an hour of famous Bordeaux vineyards, including St Emilion. There are bikes in the barn and a few shops & restaurants are within cycling distance. Good equine centre nearby, with golf, fishing and canoeing in the local.

The local area is rich in gastronomic delights: pate, fois-gras, cheese, bread and, of course, wine to name but a few. The delightful market town of Bergerac with the river Dordogne winding lazily through it, is situated about 12km to the south while about 35km north lies the ancient cathedral city of Perigueux. Both are worth exploring, Bergerac market days are Wed and Sat. Local activities include horse riding at an impressive equestrian centre 4km from the house, canoeing on the Dordogne, cycling, fishing and golf. There are numerous leafy walks around the village. Many of the numerous chateaux along the banks of the Dordogne are open to the public as are the huge caves and grottos in the area. St Julien de Crempse (the Crempse being the local river) is clearly signposted 4km west of Campsegret off the main Bergerac-Perigueux road. Keys are held by the friendly and informative Mr Dimitri Buchen who speaks English and lives in the presbytery behind the farmhouse.

Notes: The house is old and the staircase to the 2 upstairs bedrooms, the twin and a double, although safe and with a handrail, is quite steep and may be a little daunting to the elderly or infirm. The fridge in the kitchen is standard size under worktop with ice box. A second 'drinks fridge' is also available in the garage.

My family and I thoroughty enjoyed our stay in this lovely rural village. The property surpassed our expectations and we could not fault it at all. The pool was expecially welcoming to cool off and relax. We have already booked to come again.

We had a super week here in this very nicely renovated property. If you are looking for the unspoilt Dordogne then this is the place. We would thoroughly recommend it and will be coming back next year.

Peaceful and attractive village farmhouse

A wonderful place to stay with plenty to do in the local area – walking, cycling, horseriding. Not too far from Bergerac, which has a lovely market and a good selection of shops and supermarkets, and a short drive or reasonable bike ride to local shops.

The house has a light and airy kitchen diner with plenty of space for eating and cooking, a comfortable sitting room and spacious bedrooms. It was clean and pleasant and we enjoyed cooking local produce and sampling local wines. We were too early in the year for the swimming pool but sat outside in the courtyard late into the evening.

The village has an interesting history and the next door neighbour is very welcoming. He is called Dimitri and can tell you many fascinating tales – but is not intrusive.

We've been to many holiday homes in France and, so far, this is the only one that we would like to go back to.

Fabulous rural cottage

If you are looking for a great cottage in rural France then this is it! Located 30 mins from Bergerac, the cottage has been sympathetically restored, and retains many of its original features. The house has everything that you could need for a week in the sun. The village is quiet and peaceful, with easy access to Bergerac. If you are looking to enjoy some time in the sun, lazing by the pool, and just generally chilling out, then this cottage is perfect!

Beautiful, Rustic Farmhouse - Fantastic stay

Well I didnt really know what to expect as I hadnt been to France for over 20 years, and I can tell you I wasnt disappointed. We arrived by France and were met by Dimitri the next door neighbour who drove us to the house. As soon as I walked through the door i felt at home. I had the downstairs en-suite which was lovely. As for the cleanliness it was spotless. After making the beds which literally took seconds, we hit the pool which was gorgeous and the fact that you could swim anytime was a bonus. The surrounding area is absolutely breath taking. All in all I had a great stay and hopefully will be going back next year.
