Farm registered with Chambre d'Agriculture. Beautiful views. Horse riding on well trained horses. Instructor/owner registered with British Horse Society. Lessons for all abilities. Hacking for the more experienced. Picnic rides. Non-riders very welcome. Rural but near amenities. Airport 10 km. Town 7 km. Boulangerie 3 km. Wheelchair access. Self catering gite with private pool. Farmhouse accommodates up to 7 (1double, 1 single, 2 twin rooms); optional annex can accommodate 2 more (double room). Private garden with pool (8m by 4m plus semicircular steps). All with linen and towels and welcome pack. BBQs. Owners nearby and helpful. Child friendly: toys inside and out. 2 cots and high chair available. Other sports nearby: golf, lake swimming, walking, cycling, canoing and fishing. Lots of châteaux, caves and restaurants nearby. Markets with fresh, local produce. We offer an original stone built Perigordian farmhouse with a steep roof in its own garden and with a private pool (10 m x 5 m x 1.4 m deep with semi circular steps at one end). There is a double room and a single room downstairs next to the bathroom and separate toilet. Upstairs there are two twin rooms built into the oak-timberred roof. There is a big living room with open fireplace. A hallway with the original bread oven leads through to the modern kitchen. There is a self-contained annex for 2 people which can be booked separately. Linen, towels, gas and electricity are supplied. . There are a washing m/c, hairdryer and iron in the utility room for you to use. We have cots and a high chair to cope with 1 or 2 babies.

Additional information about rental rates

  • The prices shown are for our Farmhouse which sleeps 7. We also have the Annex (sleeps 2) and The Barn (Sleeps 5) - prices in proportion. These can be booked separately. If booked together for a party of 14 the Annex is included in the price at no charge. We can also accept payment in euros.
    We suggest Friday to Friday because the traveling is easier and cheaper for you but most people are stuck with starting their holidays on a Saturday. We can be flexible about the holiday dates to suit your arrangements.
    We have put 1 week as the minimum which is reasonable for this sort of holiday in the main season. Out of season we are happy to make any arrangements to suit yourselves.
    We ask for one third of the cost to secure the booking and we will hold an email booking for 10 days to allow you to make travel arrangements and for the cheque to reach us.

  • The bedrooms have been newly furnished for 2007. The Farmhouse can sleep up to 7. The optional annex can sleep two more and has excellent wheelchair access. We have cots for two babies which can be used wherever needed.

What to do on the farm and nearby: On our farm you can walk the scenic 46 acre private land and river frontage with a lot of wildlife to see (especially deer and buzzards). There are orchids (Early Purple Orchid and Bee Orchid) and other wild flowers to be found in the Spring; we have found Purple Toothwort and the Cowslips did well. You can ride one of our well chosen horses or ponies. Louise is registered with the British Horse Society and teaches to their standards. She has experience of teaching all abilities. There is the opportunity to ride the fields, woods and tracks on our farm. For those with enough experience we can offer hacking through nearby forests and through very rural villages. Picnic rides on the farm or in the forest can be arranged. We have a dog, a cat and some chickens. Close by there is a large choice of restaurants and many vineyards, forests, chateaux, castles, caves, old bastide towns and the Dordogne and Vezere rivers where you can hire canoes or enjoy the scenery.

What to do and riding safety: The pre-history sites at Lascaux and along the Vezere are most impressive. In July and August many villages have open-air evening markets where you purchase local produce (salad, duck or beef with chips, moules or oysters, strawberries etc.) to eat at communal tables. Great fun and a lovely atmosphere. For riders it must be safety first at all times. We assess all riders to ensure that they can cope safely. We insist on hard hats to the current standard and boots or shoes with a smooth sole and small heel. We have some to lend but cannot guarantee that they will fit you properly. Try our Friday to Friday booking and save on your travel costs.

How to find us: The Google map suppled with this website is incorrect. We are in Chemin de Grand Jean (not Chemin de Jean) which is a short road coming to our property from the south. This map (and some GPS and tomtom maps) show Chemin de Grand Jean incorrectly continuing to the north to Route des Pellisous. You will get stuck in the mud or loose your sump on the rocks if you try this route. Spring has arrived in the Dordogne. This year the spring flowers seem better and more abundant than ever. The purple toothwort is abundant, the cowslips are looking particularly fresh and the orchids are appearing. We have availability from 28 April onwards so try that Spring break.

We loved this house, and the location! Picture meadows, vineyards, new baby horses, and plenty of sunshine and quiet. John and Louise, the owners, were very gracious and helpful to all of us. The house is a beautiful French farm house, spacious and immaculate. The property is rolling meadows and forest, with a lot of pre-history right in the area. The house is in the country, but only five minutes from handy shopping in the large town of Bergerac. It was easy to get to a main auto route, for longer day trips, and the local village boulangerie had marvelous croissants and bread. Several people in our party went riding, and really enjoyed it. This is a wonderful vacation spot. We recommend it most highly as a wonderful and memorable place to stay. We loved taking the day trips to see the prehistoric caves and the medieval towns, and to eat in the restaurants, and visit the local markets and village celebrations. Each day when we got home, we loved sitting around the pool!
