Allemans holiday farmhouse: Allemans

All the simple pleasures of holiday life are so easy to enjoy here – the house, which is cool, appealing and extremely well equipped (especially the kitchen), has everything and you just don't need to drive for ages to get essentials or pleasures. We took advantage of the bakery in Allemans village (5 mins walk) and the handy bar/restaurant. Our 5-course evening meal there was excellent value. Riberac, less than 10 minutes drive away, had big supermarkets and everything else we needed, including La Bride du Welsh riding centre, where two of our young girls (not French speakers) went riding. The centre was friendly, well-organised and the horses were very well-behaved.

Overall, this is a lovely house in a very convenient location and we highly recommend it to anyone.

This is a perfect holiday property set in the most idyllic location surrounded by fields of sunflowers, and it’s ideal for several families sharing. Our family of four slept in the Gite close to the main house, which afforded us some independence, whilst our friends stayed in the main house. The weather has been consistently good enough to eat al fresco, play croquet or table tennis between courses or sip cocktails round the pool watching the spectacular sunsets. We also sampled many of the local restaurants, which are excellent.

A highlight for the children was walking to the village (Allemans) every morning to practise their French at the friendly patisserie - and coming back with armfuls of croissants and baguettes.

The area is full of fantastic adventure and sightseeing opportunities - concerts in the oldest European monolithic church, canoeing on local rivers, horse-back riding, as well as shopping in the weekly local markets (a real treat!) and live music in the local town square. There is something for everyone within easy reach. We’ve stayed here 3 years in a row – and can’t wait to go back. The only bad thing about the holiday at Chez Buret is having to leave! Highly recommended for all ages.

We were a mixed group of mainly adults and children and enjoyed use of both the farmhouse and barn annexe, both of which have been beautifully restored with large, comfortable rooms and all mod cons. With so many adults in the group, four bathrooms were a godsend.

The property is surrounded by 4 acres of private land and has no overlooking neighbours. The village of Allemans is only a few minutes walk away and its local bakery provided us with fresh pastries and bread for breakfast. On some evenings we went to the friendly local bar/restaurant which serves excellent food or we stayed in and used the wonderfully well-equipped kitchen to prepare dinner for all of us to share. There are large dining tables both inside and outside the house, perfect for alfresco dining. On one or two occasions we abandoned our perfect retreat to eat out at one of the many local restaurants in Riberac or nearby.

During the day you can explore the local area on foot or by car, shop for antiques or at one of the many local markets and stock up on provisions at one of the big supermarkets in Riberac, just 5 kms away. Or you stay at home and play table tennis and croquet or simply enjoy use of the generously sized, clean and well-maintained swimming pool (which has a night security system).

It was a perfect respite from city life and we cannot recommend it more highly.
