Set in a delightful rural hamlet, at the end of a No Through Road, surrounded by the glorious countryside of the Parc Regional du Perigord, this is our own holiday home in France. Not only a paradise for bird watchers, walkers and those seeking relaxation it offers proximity to many fine restaurants for lovers of good food and wine. There are two Michelin starred restaurants within 7 miles distance or for the keen cook the farmhouse kitchen is fully equipped in every detail.. Situated within reach of the major tourist attractions of the Dordogne, Chateaux, Caves, vineyards,markets and pretty villages.An exceptional feature of the house is its magnificent, spacious sitting room with exposed beams, polished wood floor and original fireplace, There is a sunny terrace in the front garden and a shady courtyard at the rear. Our bilingual neighbours are on hand to welcome you to the house and help you with any information or queries that arise during your stay.

Location: The farmhouse is ideally located for the many tourist leisure and gastronomic attractions of the Dordogne and the Bordeaux vineyards as well as the famous distilleries of Cognac. The medieval town of Brantome on the River Dronne is less than 5 Miles away. Its old Abbey and picturesque setting makes it one of the major tourist attractions in this region of Perigord. Brantome is known as the 'Venice' of Perigord because of the way that the river winds through the town with its attractive old houses and parks and gardens along its banks. The Abbey is used for concerts and exhibitions during the summer months..Other places to visit include Bourdeilles with its impressive castle and the Châteaux of Puyguilhem and Mareuil. The Grotte de Villars is within 30 minutes drive and the famous caves at Lascaux are 90 kms away. There is an 18 hole golf course at Perigueux which is very popular.

Local Amenities: Leisure facilities include canoeing, fishing, river swimming and open air swimming pools. There are large lakes in the area such as ST Estephe just beyond Nontron with beaches designed for swimming and which provide boating, fishing, children's playgrounds, cafes restaurants and other family attractions. ST Estephe is also very beautiful. Wine can be tasted at local vineyards and châteaux. There are numerous cafes, bars, and restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets from Bistro, to Farm Auberge to Internationally famous cuisine. There are two Michelin starred restaurants within seven miles of Chez Francoise. There are weekly markets in most of the surrounding towns and villages with Brantome on Friday being the nearest. Additional Information: Space is an exceptional feature of the Farmhouse with luxury for 2 but comfortable and spacious for family parties. It has a magnificent sitting room with exposed beams, polished wood floor and doors opening onto courtyard garden. There is a large dining area in this room seating up to 8 people with original character fireplace and wood burning stove. The large shady and enclosed courtyard and the garden patio with terrace furniture are ideal for drinks or for alfresco dining. If you are fond of cooking the large fully equipped 'Cooks' farmhouse kitchen is well set up. The Kitchen has a dining area for informal family meals which can comfortably seat 7 people. There is a large selection of books, games, a radio/cassette/CD player. and a TV with DVD and VHS. Outside is a BBQ, ample garden furniture including loungers and parasols. There are outdoor games including a large Table Tennis table and Boules. There is traffic free access to exceptional walking and bird watching area

Typical farmhouse in a beautiful setting

We stayed at Chez Francois from 25/07/09-01/08/09 and have had the most wonderful holiday.
The Farmhouse is very spacious and well equipped. There are plenty of games for the children to use.
The owners of the farmhouse had allowed us to treat their holiday home as our own, and we did just that because it was so well appointed.
The description was perfect, everything provided was as we expected and more.
Upon arrival we were met by a friend of the family who welcomed us and showed us where everything was and the property was very clean and well-maintained.
The customer relation between the owner and my self was fantastic, emails and telephone conversations were plenty.
Also the bottle of wine upon arrival was a lovely gesture, and well deserved after a long days driving!

I would wholly recommend anyone to come to visit Chez Francois, and we are hoping the owners will be kind enough to let us stay again next year, but for 2 weeks this time as there was so much to do nearby.
The town of Brantome is 5km away and is a typical French town with a lovely river running around the outside on which we enjoyed a days canoeing.
There are lots of Chateaux and caves around the area, or within an hours drive which are a must with the children.
The lake at nearby St Estephe was wonderful. There was a beach, cafe's, swimming area (manned by lifeguards), park land, woodland walks and also canoeing/pedalos to hire. This is approx 1/2 hr drive north and is all free.

All in all we had a great holiday. Thanks very much.

Enjoyable stay in a lovely rural setting

We have just returned from a week staying in this delightful farmhouse in the Dordogne. The house is full of character with plenty of beams and stone walls but at the same time well modernised with a newly fitted kitchen and bathrooms. The beds were clean and very comfortable and there were lovely countryside views from the bedrooms - we even spotted a deer a couple of times that had come out of the woods. The accommodation was ideal for us as our elderly father was able to sleep in the downstairs bedroom that had a shower and nearby toilet. There is plenty of birdlife around including a Little Owl in the nearby barn. The surrounding villages and towns offer plenty of places to visit and there are many good restaurants. Our favourite places within easy reach were Brantome, Perigueux, Bergerac, St Jean de Cole, Terrasson and the Chateau de Hautefort. This was our first visit to the area and we will certainly return one day.
