Les Rives sits directly on the banks of the Dordogne river which is a listed nature reserve. The large infinity pool offers superb views of the Dordogne river whilst swimming. The large house has been lovingly restored to offer bright spacious accomodation for 8 people. Two of the double bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms. Many of the original features have been retained. The house is reached by a private driveway and there is only 1 other house nearby. The surrounding vinyards and river make this a truly peaceful location. The golf course and leisure complex of Chateau des Vigiers is only 10 minutes away.

Dordogne River: The Dordogne river is a superb listed nature reserve. From the terrace of the house you can sit and watch the local birdlife. From your vantage point you can see the canoes on the river or watch the swans glide past. The size of the fish that you can see from the river bank will amaze you. Canoe facilities are offered both in Ste Foy La Grande and Bergerac.

General Information: The summer season in the Dordogne offers hundreds of different events from town to town. Bergerac alone has 10 different events ranging from fireworks on the 14 July to long weekends of wine and food festivals. The local restaurants range from 4 course set lunches with wine for 10 Euros to the 4 star restaurant at Chateau Des Vigiers. There is lots of information available and the owner is on hand to give you his personal advice.

Wine: Les Rives is at the heart of the wine growing region. Bordeaux and St Emilion to the west, Bergerac to the east. There are hundreds of wine producing chateaux in the area, many of whom offer free tasting.

Golf: Chateau Des Vigiers is a golf and leisure complex which is only 7km away from Les Rives. It offers a 18 hole golf course and driving range. There is also a 6 hole academy course. Visitors are welcome and golfers with a minimum 36 handicap can play, with clubs, trolleys and electric carts for hire. The chateau also offers 2 restaurants and a beauty salon.

Simply Beautiful

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Les Rives. The house was spacious, comfortable and had everything you would need. A bonus not having to share a bathroom with the rest of the family. The pool was the best of any property we have previously rented, beautifully set in the grounds with outstanding views of the River and the weather being hot, much time was spent in and around it. We had enjoyable visits to surrounding villages and ate great food and much wine was imbibed. St Emillion, Eymet and Bergerac all well worth a visit. After a long day out we found ourselves at the Pizzeria in Gardonne. Too tired to look any further for an eaterie, we sat outside in the covered area at the rear. The food was not only fresh and beautifully cooked but the service was friendly and very reasonable in price.

None of us wanted to leave, a week was not long enough and we all hope that we will be able to return in the future.

The location is beautiful with the house hidden amongst vines and fruit trees. However, it is a long walk to the nearest village for a real cup of morning coffee and to collect our fresh baquettes, so a car is a must.

Stunning!

My family and I had an incredible time at Les Rives. The house was exceedingly well equipped, charming and spacious. The owner was supportive prior to, and during our visit and provided many useful tips. The setting was stunning! Just a few steps beyond the beautiful infinity pool lay the Dordogne River.The location itself provided ample opportunities for touring the region. We enjoyed climbing the Dune de Pyla and splashing in the ocean waves, touring the tiny wine villages of the Medoc and exploring the Dordogne Valley. There was so much to do, not to mention just relaxing by the pool and reading under the fig tree! Two weeks was just not enough!

Excellent Villa

We have stayed in several different villas in the Dordogne area in recent years and found this one to be the best by far. It is excellently equipped with all you may need, is very comfortable and has a super pool.
There is a large supermarket within 10 minutes drive and my wife even found an excellent hairdresser in the local village.

Relaxing holiday

We stayed for a week and a half, during which the weather was not perfect. So the stunning pool called out to us more then we had a chance of using it.
The house was very comfortable during the rainy spells and we used the outside amenities every chance we had.

The location was perfect for a private holiday while being close enough to the historic district and places like St. Emilion for day trips.

The Owners tips for worthwile places to visit were spot on!

Simply Perfect

This house and it's location is simply perfect. We are returning again Summer 2008 and I can't wait. This will be our third trip to Les Rives and we have had wonderful times here, Perfectly private, peacful and gorgeous. You do need a car as the location is rural, just great when you want to be away from it all. I can't recommend this place enough - try it and you will understand my comments. Have a good time, don't miss it!!!!!
