Meyrals is a small unspoilt historical village, perfectly located for access to the abundant delights of the Dordogne area - the dramatic chateaux, limestone riverside cliffhanging villages, prehistoric caves, renaissance towns and historic fortified 'bastides'. The best 'auberge'in the area is just a stroll from the house (superb 3 course 'menu du jour' only about £10!), as is the baker and village shop, and a local bar. The quality of the surroundings has also attracted a concentration of professional artists and their galleries.

Magical Meyral

Roebuck Devon
Review Submitted: October 10, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We spent one idyllic week in Meyral in July. The village was buzzing as we arrived with the locals preparing for the Scarecrow Festival. which was an event to remember with fireworks, music and dancing. From the moment we entered La Ruche we felt "At Home" Every conceivable thing had been thought about and we did not find anything missing in this wonderful historical building. We loved the old hollowed out steps and period feel throughout the house. The rooms were all very comfortable and welcoming.Belinda and Michael had supplied a very comprehensive file containing house notes and tourist information. We found the section on markets and restaurants very informative. Michael was particularly helpful and came round within twenty minutes to fix an electrical problem while he was in the middle of a family barbecue! The only thing we missed was a garden but we knew there wasn't one and in our case it did not matter too much as we were out visiting sites quite a lot and it was bliss to return to the cool house. However we would have enjoyed our breakfast and evening drinks in a larger space than the balcony. We can really recommend this lovely house in a charming village with a boulangerie, restaurants, post office art galleries and a market once a week. The locals were also very friendly and helpful. We would love to stay here again but are also keen to stay at The Justice House in Limeuil. Thank you Belinda & Michael. You have a gem! We look forward to hearing you on the piano in a classical concert when we return.
Owner's Response: You certainly had a varied holiday! All the way from a scarecrow festival to my orchestral concert in the Abbey at Paunat. One advantage we can usually offer is prompt attention to our guests' requirements, because we live here permanently just a short distance away. We are very much looking forward to your next visit - to our Limeuil house (property ref: 12252).

La Ruche

manxmen Dubai
Review Submitted: October 9, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We had a lovely holiday in this property, it was extremely well equipped and full of character. La Ruche was bigger and more rambling than we expected with a small balcony to sit out on but no garden. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed late afternoons on the balcony. The brochure with local information in the property was invaluable, and tips about local markets worth taking note of. We went to the two local village restaurants, were both good, service was friendly and welcoming, and the food fresh and tasty. The owners visited soon after we arrived and helped with orientaton of the local area. I would not recommend this property to the elderly or infirmed, because of the uneven nature of some of the old stone steps and the number of floors. Any fit and healthy person would find La Ruche a tranquil home from home, in the heart of the rural Dordogne. A delightful property in a delightful setting.
Owner's Response: We see our 'House Book' as a major benefit for our guests in order to get the most out of their holiday in the area - and we keep it regularly updated. We have had many comments this year on the quality of our local restaurants, too.

Stay in the Dordogne

Soapy Mutt Co Durham
Review Submitted: October 9, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We were delighted with the property and it exceeded our expectations. It was very tastefully decorated and extremely well equipped. The owners came to meet us a couple of days after we arrived to answer any questions we may have had which I found to be very thorough. The property is well located for visiting the many attractions of the Dordogne although a car is a must. There is a very good Auberge in the village within a minute's walk and also a bar with a restaurant that serves pizza and pasta as well as the more traditional fayre. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful romantic haven in the lovely Dordogne countryside. The house is very old with some uneven steps so therefore would not suit anyone with mobility issues.
Owner's Response: We are always pleased when our 'Perfection for Two' concept exceeds our guests' expectations - and we were delighted to hear that you had enjoyed the village 'Auberge' so much.
