The farmhouse has been restored to a high standard, retaining many of the original features and charm. Nestling in a tiny hamlet, enjoying peace and seclusion, yet it is just a mile from the village of St Severin. This 'living' village contains all necessary shops etc, including a baker, 3 butchers (!), bank, a chemist and a small supermarket as well as two bars and a restaurant. It is in an interesting area with plenty to do. Set in its own large garden, with 11m floodlit kidney shaped pool, the house is very private and not overlooked. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, one en suite to the master bedroom. Downstairs there is a large comfortably furnished sitting room with TV/Video (BBC/ITV etc by Satellite), a dining room and well equipped kitchen with dishwasher. Alongside there is an 'arriere cuisine' with washing machine, tumble drier and further fridge for cold drinks etc and a separate downstairs toilet. This property truly offers that home from home experience.

The house is ideally situated to explore the many places of interest in this fascinating part of France. Aubeterre, officially designated 'un des plus beaux villages de France' is about 5 miles away and well worth a visit, and not only to see its famous monolithic church. The river towns of Brantome and Bordeilles and the renowned Chateau Montbazillac are within easy reach. The beautiful valleys of Domme Sarlat and Beynac are well worth a visit. There are many activities within easy reach of the house, these include golf, tennis, horse riding, canoeing and river bathing at man made beaches. The area is also popular for walking and cycling and bicycles can be hired locally. In addition there are of course many restaurants nearby!

Comments from one of last year's visitors: We had a tremendous time at Chez Charrier and were very sad indeed to leave. Yours is a lovely house in a beautiful setting with the added benefit of that excellent pool. We spent a lot of time sitting around the pool and reading, mixing that with days of action, bike riding, walking, canoeing (great fun going over the barrages), tennis (good courts in St Sev.), table tennis and, of course eating. The special thing about this holiday was that our 14 and 11 year old children enjoyed it just as much as we did, and if they're happy ... We all agreed that it really was a superb holiday. Thanks very much.

Lovely, relaxing 2 weeks at Chez Charrier

We spent a wonderful 2 weeks at Chez Charrier in August 2009 and had such a great time that we'd would love to return in the future! The house is spacious and well laid out with enough space inside and out for a couple of families - we had 4 adults, 2 children and 2 babies and certainly didn't feel cramped at all. The location is secluded but not isolated so that you can really relax without being out of touch.

The good sized, established garden (with very comfy hammock) and great pool meant that it was hard to drag the children away on excusions but there are lots of good places to visit nearby if the mood takes you. The village of St Severin, being so close by, is very handy for morning croissant/supermarche runs and has all you need day to day (including inflatables for the pool!).

To give a balanced view we were trying to think of any negatives and have been struggling. All we could come up with was the rather old TV, but it worked well and was fine for the kiddies DVDs. We had such great weather that we hardly spent any time in doors anyway, so it was never an issue for us.

All in all one of the most relaxing, enjoyable sumer holidays we've had which is why we'd love to do it again!

We had a great 2 weeks at Chez Charrier in July/August 2008. We explored the local area in the mornings--Periguex,Jarnac,Cognac,Riberac and Angouleme followed by relaxing around the pool in the afternoons.

There is some great canoeing on the river Dronne with lots of wildlife to be spotted and the excitement of the barrages.Afterwards great lunches can be consumed in the square in Aubeterre.The kids loved the diving board and the pool. The scenery is spectacular, very quiet and relaxing to unwind.

The facilities are great with cooking oil,spices etc--replace as you use which is a real bonus. It is ideal for Brits with British TV.

There is also a table tennis table for challenging Dad after Barbequed-tea, no rest for the wicked.


We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and recommend Chez Charrier.
