Large country house with tower in Perigordian style in the lovely Dordogne countryside, 10 minute walk to the small Bastide town of Lalinde, 23km from Bergerac airport. This is our second home, so it is well-furnished and well-maintained. We love the situation - quiet and peaceful yet easy to walk into town for bread in the morning or a drink in one of the numerous Lalinde bars in the evening. Electric gates to sweeping drive with parking for 4+ cars. 3/4 acre private totally enclosed garden with 12m by 6m swimming pool and sunbeds. Terrace with teak furniture and large awning. 325sqm living space with 47 sqm living room, fitted kitchen with dishwasher, larder with second fridge and freezer for the ice creams, utility room with washing machine and Miele dryer. Four bedrooms on the ground floor (cool in summer), two on the first floor, and two in the tower. Four very modern bathrooms, one of which is en suite and two with baths. Pool table and exercise bike in the Games Room.

Lalinde is located in the Perigord Pourpre (The Purple Perigord), a land of vineyards around Bergerac. It is one of the 'bastide' towns created by the Kings of England and France in the 13th century, with the typical central market square. It has several bakers, butchers, general stores, bars and restaurants and has the river Dordogne as its southern limit. There is a busy farmers’ market in the square every Thursday and many others close by. A supermarket is 1km away. It is well situated as a base for exploring the Dordogne region whilst not being too crowded during the peak summer period. Bergerac, Montbazillac and the wine region are 20km to the west and Sarlat 50km east. Many activities for all the family in the surrounding area, from canoeing and water sports on the Dordogne river to golf, horse riding, cycling and hiking. There are many historic sites, areas of natural beauty, caves, chateaux etc. A delight for those enjoying good food, wine and the French way of life.

Notes: The house was completely renovated in 2002 as a second home and has been little used since. It is in excellent condition throughout. As this is our second home rather than a rental property, we have purchased good quality modern furniture, linen and towels. The garden is private and enclosed, with the pool in full sun. The pool uses an electrolytic system minimising chlorine smell, red eyes, itchy skin, and uses no nasty chemicals. The entire ground floor is a flat area, without steps, and on the same level as the garden (small step over the door frames). You will be greeted by our Agent on arrival, who will show you around and brief you on the local area. Cleaning and linen/towel change occur every week, and the representative will be present when you leave. The garden and pool are fully maintained. In the busy periods, Saturday is the changeover day, but we can be flexible at other times. Normal arrival time is 16.00 or later and normal departure time is before 10.00.

RyanAir flies to Bergerac from Brussels, Bristol, East Midlands, Liverpool, and London Stansted and Luton. Transavia flies to Bergerac from Amsterdam. Book early to avoid disappointment

Guest Services: The property is managed by a company located in the same village. They will meet you on arrival and brief you on the house and the local area. They look after weekly house cleaning, weekly or bi-weekly (depending on the temperature) pool maintenance and garden maintenance, and are available for any unexpected problems. A complimentary hamper awaits you with essentials including coffee, milk, butter, bread, jam. Having made a booking, we will provide you with their contact details as they can also do your initial shopping for you. Everything you request will be neatly put away in the kitchen cupboards and fridge. The management company offers a wide range of additional services including a chef to cook meals for you, a masseur/masseuse, babysitting, a maid service, acupuncture, and even a French tutor! All their services will be explained to you on arrival. You pay them directly for these additional services.

Additional Equipment: The kitchen includes an espresso machine, a filter coffee machine, two full-size fridges and a large freezer. You can stay in touch with the world (if you want to!) with the wireless broadband system (802.11g with WEP security) and your laptop or PDA throughout the house. Local calls can be made free from the portable phone. The wall-mounted LCD satellite TV receives the following channels (and many others in each language); English: BBC1,2,3,4, News24, Prime, World, CBBC, CBeebies, ITV1,2,3,4, Bloomberg, CNBC, CNN, Sky News. French: TF1, France 2,3,5, M6, MTV, France 24. Swiss: TSR1,2. German: ZDF, Prosieben, Vox, Sat1, ARD, MTV, 3Sat . An internet radio receives 6000 radio stations. There is a piano in the hall, and a pool table and bicycle-type exercise machine in the Games Room on the first floor. For a Christmas break or a winter stay, the house benefits from full gas-fired central heating in all rooms. NB: We cannot be responsible for any loss of service of wireless broadband.

'Thank you for providing us with a fabulous home from home for our family holiday. The house is as I expected from the description and pictures, very acceptable! It feels secure, welcoming and highly organised - you have clearly thought about the needs of your guests and provided an exceptionally well equipped house and garden. Great house with all the facilities you may need. We had 2 great weeks with 3 couples in week one and 2 families of children and parents in the second week.

It's a steep walk back from the town but that's ideal for loosing weight gained in the restaurants.

We cycled, vistted prehistoric drawings and canoed down the river. Good wine in the area too.
