Located in the lovely town of Brantome, the 'Venice of the Perigord', this attractive house has just been restored to a high specification. Brantome is a delight to visit with its Abbey dating back to the 11th Century. There is a host of bars and restaurants including the legendary Moulin de l'Abbaye and the nearby Moulin du Roc which both boast a Michelin Star. The house offers fishing from the garden whilst in Brantome you can find, canoeing, swimming, tennis, walking, cycle hire or just people-watching at a café in the square. All amenities are within a few minutes walk, including the local tourist information centre. Saturday is the normal changeover day.

Many places of interest nearby include Château de Richemont 'Home of Brantôme', one of the Abbots of Brantôme and author of the famous Dames Galantes. The village of Villars offers three attractions; the Château de Puyguilhem, the Abbaye de Boschaud and the prehistoric caves at the Grotte de Villars. Bourdeilles just further downstream from Brantôme, has a 16th Century Renaissance Château built alongside the earlier 12th Century Fortress. Mareuil-sur-Belle, a market town, has a variety of bars and restaurants as well as a good selection of shops. Périgueux , 20 minutes away, is the principal city of the region and has much to offer in the way of sophisticated shopping and fine dining to suit all tastes and pockets. The markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays are an absolute must. Château de Hautefort, Sarlat, Bergerac and Cognac are all within 'day-trip' distance as as is the fabulous pilgrimage to the vineyards of Bordeaux. For seaside lovers La Rochelle is about 2 hours drive.

Accommodation: The accommodation comprises a living/ dining room with a wood-burning stove and radiator for cooler months. The kitchen is fully fitted with gas hob, electric oven, microwave oven large fridge/freezer and dishwasher. A WC completes the downstairs layout. Upstairs the bedroom is furnished with a double bed and the bathroom has twin basins, WC and large shower/bath. Both rooms have river views. Across the road, the small riverside garden is equipped with garden furniture, a barbecue and is shaded by a fig tree and a lovely weeping willow which overhangs the water.

Brantome is an idyllic location & this house enabled it to be enjoyed to the full. Everything in town was within easy walking distance of the house, and car parking, at the house, was never a problem.
Although this house only sleeps 2, the owners offer excellent Chambre d’hôtel in their own house - so if you have visitors they can be well cared for, at a reasonable cost.
Our favorite restaurant was “Les Jardines de Brantome”, good food, nice atmosphere and not too expensive. The ‘House’ red wine is to be recommended, the rosé wine was uninspiring.
The meal we best enjoyed was provided by our landlady – she is a fabulous cook in the classical French style - but hails from NE England. If you stay in their Brantome townhouse we recommend that you book one meal with the owners. They stay in a lovely old mill house (worth a trip itself), only a few miles away. Not only is the food good, but the conversation is easy and their rosé wine is good!
The acid test is “would we go back?” and the answer is yes, and for longer. Travel costs were high, but rural Perigord vert is just so ‘laid back’ and attractive that the expense is justified – we heard nightingales singing during the day. In 500+ km of touring about we never saw a housing scheme. A car is essential, as is a detailed map.
We would unreservedly recommend this holiday rental.

Brantome is a beautiful picturesque little town. By far the most attractive place to stay in this area. Plenty of places to eat out ,relax and amble. The cottage is well situated being a very short walk into town with no problems parking the car.The little garden is lovely to sit in and relax whether you want shade or sun. A very nice place to stay.

This is a beautiful cottage in a wonderful setting within easy access of the town and easy parking.
A good selection of restaurants at all price ranges are available but there are plenty of nearby spots for picnics and barbeques.The riverside garden was great for catching up on some serious reading it being peaceful and private.The town had live music ,a farmers market,an antique market and even a parade by local truffle farmers.The cottage had all the amenities one needs and was well maintained though any problems would be solved by the hosts,roy and eileen,who were friendly and very helpful.
We enjoyed our stay and hope to return.
It helps if you like duck as its on every menu in many forms-i was hoping for duck ice cream but maybe next year.

I enjoyed my week in this little cottage overlooking the river in Brantome. I needed some peace and quiet to write. The best part of the cottage is the bedroom that has a great view over the river. The owners are really friendly and helpful.
