The Sunflower is part of The Ridge estate, a stunning hill top setting comprising owners' accommodation & 2 gites. The Sunflower contains a bright living / kitchen area which is very well equipped, a light and airy double bedroom & twin bedroom, & a generous bathroom with bath & shower. From the living room, step out & enjoy the views & tranquility from the Sunflower’s private, south-facing garden & relax with a drink or a BBQ on the patio. Children can explore the 1.5 acre wooded garden which is fully fenced. For a stretch of legs, stroll along the ridge-top for a walk with stunning views. The Sunflower is ground level, with the owners’ apartment above. The Sunflower is completely private as the entrances and gardens are on the other side of the building to those of the owners. The Sunflower shares the secluded pool, (which is set on its own, further down the garden), with the 1 bedroom holiday cottage, The Hideaway (Holiday Rentals property ref. 468556).

Towards the north of the Dordogne, this is a beautiful part of France, well known for its rolling verdant hills, fields of sunflowers and rural charm. The Sunflower forms part of The Ridge estate, located just west of Bouteilles St Sebastien. There are many activities to do in the area, including canoeing, horse-riding, fishing, hiking and cycling. Beautiful towns and places to visit include Brantome (the Venice of the Perigord), Aubeterre, (a bustling riverside town), or just potter around the shops, cafes and markets of our nearest pretty towns of St Severin and Riberac. Venture 5 minutes west and arrive in the Charente region, where you can visit Cognac (80 minutes' drive), or head South to Bergerac (60 minutes' drive) for some wine sampling! Two nearby beaches are at Aubeterre (river beach) which is 15 minutes' drive, or the Jemaye Lake, 35 minutes' drive. If all this seems too energetic, settle back with a good book in the Sunflower garden or poolside for some rest and relaxation

Notes: A good supply of domestic items is provided, such as cling film, foil, matches, laundry powder, washing up liquid, candles, cloths, tea towels etc. Bed linen and bathroom and pool towels are supplied. There is a guest book with useful information on The Sunflower facilities and the local area including shopping, restaurants and sight-seeing, and a set of large scale local maps is provided. There is a cot and a highchair available, but these are not kept in The Sunflower, so please ensure you ask the owners if you wish these to be available. There is a selection of outdoor toys available for children and also a large range of children's DVDs, although the TV does also have british television. The 1.5 acre communal garden contains a woodland area which is ideal for chidren to explore. The entire estate is fully fenced (you will need to ensure that the main entrance gates are kept closed!).

Everything and more than we had hoped for

We had a brilliant holiday at the Sunflower and would highly recommend it. It was without doubt the best equipped Gite we have stayed in.
The owners Jane and Steve are a really lovely couple who were very thoughtful and accommodating. They helped to make our holiday so enjoyable. The welcome pack of food and charcoal for the barbecue was great to get us started. After a long journey it was such a relief to be able to relax straight into the holiday without having to immediately go out shopping for milk, bread, cheese etc.
The information pack provided was very comprehensive and we even received a weekly sheet informing us of local events.
The area is stunning and the views from the Ridge are amazing. It is such a tranquil location and a great place to unwind. The garden and pool are really well maintained, and equipped. We loved sitting out every night and taking in the peace and quiet.
We spent many hours cycling and walking around the area. The roads are so quiet and traffic free. There are many pretty villages to explore.
We look forward to returning.

Fabulous Holiday!

We had a fantastic week in The Sunflower. After a very long drive, it was a relief and a joy to arrive to a pristine and well equipped gite, as well as to a cold drink in the fridge amongst other goodies! We loved sitting outside in our private garden without feeling at all overlooked and then just going for a cool dip in the beautiful pool when we felt like it. We felt very looked after but in a discreet manner, which is exactly how we like it. The bedding and towels and all equipment was very high quality, and the extensive DVD library was a brilliant idea. The guides that Jane and Steve had written on the local shops and restaurants were so useful too. All in all, a top holiday, and we will be coming back!

Another lovely visit

We have returned to The Sunflower again this year and it was as good as we remembered. This time we knew how well equipped it would be and could travel much lighter as a consequence. Our three year old daughter enjoyed splashing about in the pool and we stayed in every evening, just enjoying the tranquility and either BBQ-ing or cooking, using the lovely food we had bought in the local shops and markets. We think we are now classed as 'regulars' and we hope to be back again; we have friends who might stay in The Hideaway at the same time. Can't wait!

Very enjoyable stay with fantastic views. Loved the peace and quiet of the area. Owners very accommodating and friendly. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Sunflower.

We loved it!

We cannot speak highly enough of the Ridge, we absolutely loved it. It felt like home and is the perfect base for exploring this fabulous part of France. The area is stunningly beautiful, with wonderful countryside walks and villages to explore.

The hillside location is very private and quiet; the terrace has fantastic views over the valley and the swimming pool and on a beautiful clear evening, with the air warm and completely still you can only hear the sound of crickets and the occasional owl calling.

Your hosts have put a lot of thought into what you might need and it was great to arrive and be provided with a starter pack of food and household items so that we only needed our clothes and washbags, everything else was taken care of. Children are well catered for with satellite TV and a broad selection of DVDs as well as board games, garden and pool toys.

We will definitely return!
