Details for Neptune 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 3, 1 Bathroom

Neptune is a delightful, bright and airy apartment. All windows overlook the Place Carnot. There is a small entrance hall, and a large living room with kitchenette one end. There is seating for four in the dining area and for three in the lounge area. It has one bedroom with a double bed, and there is also a folding single bed if needed and an additional mattress available (no divan base). There is a smart modern bathroom and WC leading out of the living area. The decor of the apartment is very attractive. It is smart and modern in style, having been bought fully-furnished and recently refurbished from a French lady who furnished and equipped it for her granddaughter. A number of additions have been made to bring it in line with a rental apartment suitable for short-term clients, and the whole effect is delightful, particularly the bird's eye of the Place Carnot. It's a wonderful place to visit at Christmas or the New Year festivities as so many take place directly below

Notes: The apartment is on the third floor; it's an easy climb as the steps are shallow and there is a robust, attractive and typically French iron balustrade - and and it is certainly no problem for elderly clients who are fit. We are in our mid-sixties and love staying there. However if climbing stairs is a problem then it is not suitable. Other electrical items provided: electric kettle, coffee filter machine, stick mixer, electric toaster There is parking directly outside the apartment but it is not reserved, although cars come and go fairly frequently and if there is not a space immediately available you do not normally have to wait long. There are several free car parks very near and also secure parking at 18 euros for the week and a 24/7 swipe card (our preferred option). Wi-fi is available on request.

Local festivals - the summer: The Carcassonne Festival takes place throughout July, both in the Cité and in the Bastide St. Louis. Many of the events take place in the Place Carnot and can be viewed from the apartment. The programme contains opera, dance, theatre, jazz, salsa, country and western and other concerts, folklore, street-theatre and comedy. In August a re-enactment of the days of the troubadours takes place. Knights and horses in full costume, along with processions of jugglers, acrobats, mime artists, gymnasts, dancers and musicians will entertain you with jousting and processions. There is an organ festival that takes place from mid-June to mid-September, with concerts on the famous organ at the Basilica of Saint-Nazaire in the Cite. The concerts are free and take place every Sunday and on all public holidays during this period. And on Bastille Day (14th July) there is a truly spectacular firework display - the Cité looks as though it is being set on fire with 25 minutes of fireworks.

Local festivals - the rest of the year: There is a Christmas market in the Place Carnot with a stage, a skating rink (3 euros an hour!) with a huge ice spectacular one of the evenings, artificial icicles on the fountain, and artificial snow on Christmas trees and the wooden stalls. There is a huge ferris wheel with views of the town and Cite just outside the Bastide walls, sledging, trampolines, fireworks and many other activities including the Foie Gras fair the Sunday before Christmas. It is quite magic, and clients who have been there over Christmas have been enchanted. There are three big fairs in Carcassonne during the year, on 6th March, 6th September and the Fair of Ste Catherine on 25th November. These fairs are huge events, with crafts and produce from the region and elsewhere. The Dame Carcas Pig Fair is at the beginning of March and at the end of March there are the antique fairs. The flea market takes place in September each year in the streets of La Trivalle, the district directly underneath the Cite.

Our stay in Carcassonne

Barbara and Rosemary Tonbridge Kent
Review Submitted: May 31, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
This is a delightful apartment beautifuly decorated and everything colour co-ordinated to match the name of the apartment! The apartment is very well equiped with everything you could possibly think of. The situation is first class, in the main square and only a short walk to the railway station and many good and reasonably priced restaurants. We had an excellent few days here as part of a' girls getaway' and intend to return later in the year with our husbands.

Tonbridge Kent
Owner's Response: It's nice to hear from a 'girls getaway'. They clearly enjoyed the apartment just as much as couples and families. We also sometimes get singletons staying in the apartments, and they particularly appreciate the location, with so much activity happening in the square below. We look forward to welcoming Barbara and Rosemary back with their husbands later this year.

Our four night stay at The Neptune

Review Submitted: October 13, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
An excellent location for holidaying in Carcassonne. Very comfortable, clean and well equipped. A welcoming bottle of wine and flowers were a pleasant surprise. The information lists sent to us were helpful, especially the directions for finding the appartment. We both would most certainly like to holiday there again.
Owner's Response: Thank you Lara2 for this nice review of Neptune. Delighted you enjoyed your visit and hope to welcome you back some time.

Great apartment in a great location

MalcolmO Northwich, Cheshire, UK
Review Submitted: October 2, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Neptune apartment overlooks one of the main squares in Carcassonne where there are many cafes and bars with tables spreading out onto the square, it's a brilliant location, very central and within walking distance of the old city and castle.

The apartment is neat, tidy and well maintained and equipped. It's easily big enough for two people and I think it would manage another (child?) easily. It is on the fourth floor and acessed by a steepish spiral staircase so would not be any good for anyone who would struggle with this.

Excellent service, communication and information from the owner.

I would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in Carcassonne.
Owner's Response: I'm so pleased these clients enjoyed their stay in Carcassonne, particularly as they thought at one stage that they would not be able to come.

Yes the apartment is definitely big enough for a third person, and has been used by a group of three adults, not just an extra child, on a number of occasions.

Neptune is actually on the third floor and not the fourth. However we do warn on the web site that it is not suitable for anyone who would struggle with three flights of stairs. For the rest of us of course we feel it justifies the wonderful local food we have been indulging in!

Ideal for a taste of France!

CJ and MJ Nottingham, UK
Review Submitted: September 23, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The apartment is very well equipped and in an ideal location for the town centre. We really enjoyed overlooking the bustling square, especially on market day. Lots to do in the area including canal trips, a visit to the castle and swimming and sunbathing at the nearby lake. We found David and Carole (the local managers) to be really helpful and the pack sent by Caroline before we left the UK to be extremely useful. If you fancy escaping from the UK and sampling the French way of life for a few days then we would recommend Carcassonne and the apartment.
Owner's Response: Thank you for the mention of the swimming and sunbathing at the Lac de la Cavayère. You don't really come to Carcassonne for a sun and swimming holiday, but in the summer it's nice to know that there is a recreational lake a short bus ride away, and several clients have taken advantage of it. But be warned, there are no facilities there apart from public loos, so take something to eat and drink. Picnic back-packs with insulated compartments are provided in each apartment.

Neptune visit 7.09

David & Andie Saddington, Leicestershire,
Review Submitted: July 31, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
This was our virst visit to Carcassonne and this area of France and we fell in love with it. The medieval castle (La Cite) is a real fairytale sight, especially at night. The town of Carcassonne is well laid out, with good shops and plenty of places to eat, drink and generally pass the time of day. This appartment is right in the centre overlooking the main square and from the windows you can get a birds eye view of the activities below. Whilst we were there the festival had just started and we were able to watch performing bands from the luxury of our own room! The appartment is clean, tidy and well appointed and its very much like having your own place in France!
We enjoyed the surrounding countryside especially visiting the Cathar castles. The Chateau de Peyrepertuse and Chateau de Queribus to the south of Carcassonne are especially worth a visit. The pretty bastide town of Mirepoix is charming although we visited on a rare dull day.
After staying here we moved on to Montpellier, travelling via Narbonne. Narbonne would be easy to get to from Carcassonne, and for the more adventurous is well worth the trip.
Things to consider if staying here: the local markets are great with fabulous fruit, veg, breads, cheese etc. France is quite expensive at the moment but try buying your own provisions and eat 'chez vous'. The appartment is equipped with all you'll need to cater for yourselves. Wine is still cheap and the local vin rose is very good. There is a small supermarket in the square so you don't have to go far for anything extra you might need. We had our own car and found parking easy. Sometimes you might have to park a few streets away but there was never any problem finding a space. One thing we were'nt quite prepared for was the noise from the square, especially the early morning Saturday market, but this is the centre of a large town and as long as you remember that you'll be ok. If you are a sports fan, the local Irish pub just to the left of the entrance to the building does have Sky Sports (I sneaked the occassional look at the cricket!!).
Caroline, the owner, was in regular contact through the booking process and sends out a great information pack when you book. There's lots of information about the town and the surrounding area inside the appartment too.
If you've ever wanted to visit this area we'd thoroughly recommend this appartment. We'd quite happily stay here again. Bonne chance.
Owner's Response: Well, these clients clearly loved our little home from home in Carcassonne - not just the apartment itself but the whole scene, both in Carcassonne itself and in the surrounding area. It is a wonderful part of France and a stay in any of the apartments means you could not be better placed to explore it.
