Gruissan position:
Although Gruissan, Narbonne Plage and Pierre St Mere are on the bus route from Narbonne, hiring a car at the airport will open up many more places to visit. along the south coast or to explore further inland. On the coast in Gruissan there are very shallow salt lagoons where windsurfer beginners can receive tuition from the professionals and those with more experience will find some of the best windsurfing and kite surfing spots in Europe.
Gruissan lies between lagoons, salt marches with flamingos and the Massif de la Clape mountain range. Only 15km from Narbonne it represents a truly Mediterranean mix of fishermen and wine growers. Near the old port is the tasteful modern marina development, Port Gruissan. Its bustling harbour is full of all types of leisure boats. Fishing trips can be taken or just take a gentle boat trip along the coast. This area is also a must for artists, if you are a professional or amateur there are wonderful pictures to paint making use of the biggest blue skies, and wonderful bright sunlight. With a bottle of wine at your side it is so much easier to capture the castles, panoramic countryside, mountains teaming with wild life, animals and birds.
